It's been a while since I posted here and hope y'all doing well. I'm going on a predator hunt later this year and there is a decent chance of getting a shot at a wolf. I can't decide if I want to use my 22-250 or my 25-06. I'd like to keep the hide, so I'm leaning toward the 22-250. Bears shouldn't be a concern since they will most likely be in their dens by the time I go. Thoughts?

Hey Slayer, how you been? Hope your enjoying your time in AK. Forgot you were up there or I would a tried contacting you and hooking up for a beer when I was there most of June. Anyway, back to the question, I know quite a few wolf hunters in AK and everyone of them packs one of the 22 cal centerfires, they seem to be plenty succesful.

I've been good. Loving it up here, though I do miss Spokane. Did a ton of fishing and slayed the reds on the Kenai. Came up one species short of all 5 salmon species in one season. :bash: Did a spring bear hunt, but didn't get anything. Tried for moose, but couldn't find a legal bull. Thanks for the info. If you make it back up this way, let me know.

Will do, may come back up for the same conference next year as well. I did pretty well on the Reds in Resurrection bay using a Montana fly hook, also hammered the halibut as well. Glad your enjoying AK, I'd move there in a minute if my wife would go.

If I were you, I'd take whichever rifle you were most comfortable with.

22 250 with 60gr. partitions little holes and very little pelt damage would be my choice.
-
25-06 with 100 gr. bullets... still small holes... but better ballistics.
-
Would not really matter to me. Probably take the one I shoot best. If that were the 22-250 I'd make sure I was using a good "Hunting" bullet design rather than a V-Max or some other explosive varmit bullet. If you find a big one it'll be nice to have the extra penetration.

25-06 for me. Both will kill them but like the knock down way better on a 150lb wolf.

25-06 ...Like Carp said ..just alittle more power and it will reach out and touch something too !!

Thanks for the info guys! I'm comfortable with both rifles, but looks like the quarter bore will get the nod. Headed to the range this weekend to make sure it's still sighted after the move up here.

:yeah: I'm part of this club, if you shoot both guns equally well, use the 25/06, wolves are big tough animals.....

Slayer, when the leaves drop, go up the knick as far as you can drive. I saw wolves there more than once......short drive for ya.

Thanks for the tip. Kinda like going to Jim's Creek, but keep going? My buddy has a spot up around Glenallen that's he's seen them. Plus he really wants a lynx.

25-06 without a doubt in my opinion.
