Title: Idaho deer opener
Post by: vandeman17 on September 26, 2011, 03:30:50 PM: Will anybody be in Idaho for the opener of general rifle season two weeks from today? I will be there with 5 other guys for a week and I can't wait. It looks like this week the weather is still pretty warm but it is supposed to cool off next week with the lows hitting 30 or so. I would LOVE to get a little bit of snow but will take at least some cold temps. :IBCOOL:

I believe that 3 of the 6 hunters have bought wolf tags so if they see them, they will be blasting. I am torn though, part of me would love to see some wolves so we could have a chance at shooting one but the other part really hopes we don't even see a sign of one so that we have better deer hunting... :dunno:

I will be in the panhandle during all that time and am hoping to be in the woods pretty much every day. If anyone needs any kind of help for elk or deer with packing let me know since the panhandle can be a little rugged to get an animal out.

The town I am staying in has a high of 55 and low of 30 predicted for Friday with chance of showers. That means that up in the hills could possibly get some snow! :IBCOOL:

Post by: AudiDat on September 29, 2011, 10:33:20 AM: I'm heading over at 0dark:30 Saturday morning, will probably setup camp (roll out sleeping bag in a friends trailer) bike the skid roads Saturday & Sunday to get a better feel for the area I'll be hunting Monday. I'll spend the evenings drinking and getting the scout report from our local friend there who's had trail cams up & has been scouting over the last month or so.

We were hoping to make at least one scouting trip before we went but with the price of gas, schedule conflicts and all that we didn't find the right weekend to make the 10 hour drive each way. We are going to scout all day Sunday and maybe an hour or two Saturday night depending on when we get into town. Good luck!

If needed will I spend a few days in unit 4 for the extension of "any elk" as unit 6 was cut down to 2 days this year. All of us hunt hard and deep for the big bulls but none of us pass on any legal elk as the meat hunt is first on the priority list.

We are leaving Saturday, I packed this weekend and still feel like I waited until the last minute. :chuckle: Why is it that I can wait until the day before Christmas to do my shopping and be fine with it but if I am not packed and ready at least a week before a hunting trip I feel like I am slacking? 8)

Seems like a good time to take a half Day! :IBCOOL: Heading up to the Waha out of Lewiston tomorrow morning after stocking up on supplies. May pick up a wolf tag as well, might need something to hunt the rest of the week if I dump a buck on day 1 (I should be so lucky).

I'll try to remember to take pics & post em up after I get back if the rest of you do!
