Well finally having a few minutes to mess around on the computer after our first deer hunt.
We had a though hunt. Started on Saturday and found nothing but a two point and a doe and fawn. Crazy, just could not find the deer. Pretty hot on the first day. Hunted from sun up to sun down.
On the way back to camp had a doe with triplets. Only the third set I have seen. Tried to get a pic in the headlights but it did not turn out.
Day two was cooler, but still warm and windy. Found a spike, doe and fawn. another sun up to sun down day. Eyes were tired from glassing for two days straight. When we got back to the trailer we were treated with a disaster. From the night before, being so hot, we left the windows open. did not think that the wind would blow the dirt to such a degree to make two inch drifts inside the trailer. Oh well, always an adventure when I am involved.
Day three - the last day. Finlay was cool. First place we glassed - PAYDIRT!. Three leagal bucks - one really wide, but kinda thin. Game on. We watched them for awhile and put a plan in place. I did not think we could make a stalk with no cover, so we decided to do a push. Always works. Well I thought it was a sure thing the deer would go to the left, where Matthew went to ambush them. Well deer do not always agree with me - they went to the right.
From there we hit all of our hot spots, for like the tenth time in three days. Nothing. Mid day we had one place left. Got out of the truck and first look in the spotting scope 3 point. Game back on. After 30 minutes we had found 5 leagal bucks, 3 small ones. This time I knew that the deer had only one way out. But Matthew had had it with being the pushee and said he could stalk these deer. So I let him, but I went to set up an ambush. Maybe we could go 2 for 2. This was a rugged climb, over two narrow cliff tops, very steep. Took 40 minutes. Mattthew made his move and was successful in being the pusher. The first three deer were there points, the forth was the one I wanted. I had a perfect set up, under 50 yards rest on a rock out cropping. I pasted him. I thought he would go over the cliff. but he slid and stopped just short. 23 inch main frame 4x4 with huge bases. Where he was at was the most dangerous situation I have ever been in hunting. So steep that we could not step below the deer. Had to tie him off to keep him from going over. Pics are kinda all the same, but did not have much choice, could not get the tongue to stay in either.
We had a great time, learned a lot. Matthew shook my hand and said good job when he got to me. grown into a real hunter. Now he just has to nail his buck.... Stay tuned....

They are exposed to the elements.

how do you figure there exposed? its a closed action. the nipple is not exposed to the elements as stated in the regs.

Very cool buck glad it all worked out for you!!!!!!!!

First off congrats to the hunter. That is a great buck for sure!
@ Fishingnut71 I have three bolt action mussys and all three are open nipples. Just because it is a bolt action does not mean it is illegal.

Great buck! Congrats.

It is not a 'bolt action' i would call it a slide action. Pull it back and it is calked. Pull the trigger it slams forward. Seems to work....
-
very nice buck victor.

Great buck! Congrats, hope the 'pusher' gets his! :chuckle:
-
The ' pusher' is on his own - I am ekl hunting, he is going to try to fill his tag. Knowing him he probably will.
