I think I took that one 6 years ago. It was last weekend of the regular modern firearms season.
I typically stay consistent on where I go once I have found some good sign during my scouting. When I know bucks are frequenting an area, just play the averages on us being there at the same time. ;)
Anyway, I was slowly working my way up this little knob to look down into the little bowl I had seen the sign in. Just as I crested, this guy and 6 does jumped up outta their beds at about 40 yds. I had a quick shot on him just as he started to bolt. He had hunched down a bit, so I took out his elbow at the entry with my Browning 30-06.
The shirt is actually hunter orange, but like usual here, it had been raining pretty good and I was completely soaked. ;)

Looks like a big-bodied buck!

Yep, he was a good sized buck, body-wise. Just a little 3 point on his head, but I can't eat horns. ;)
He was big enough that I couldn't feed his front legs through the space between the tendon and bone of his back legs and make a backpack outta him to hump him out of the woods. I tried. :P

Ya, when you've been out almost 20 years, you won't miss it nearly as much.
Yep, that's it. That's my story and I'm stickin to it. ;)

Yep. You can call in sick during hunting season on the civilian side :chuckle:

Sweet pics Raines, I like your tent set-up, it looks a lot like mine.

Nice way to jump aboard, and some good critters too! Welcome, and good luck this season.

I added a bit to it last season. Bought an enclosed cargo trailer, did some modifying to it, and expanded the camp a bit.

Nice trailer setup, is that cheaper alltogether than going out and buying a trailer?

Big time. The trailer only ran me 4K. The bunks fold up out of the way, and I can still roll a car, or whatever cargo, into the trailer.
It adds bunk space, and a space to lock up valuables, to my wall tent camp. The beauty of the wall tent with wood stove is getting dry after hunting out in the rain and snow all day.
The whole camp packs up into the trailer, and off we go.

Im liking the set up more and more

Here's a pic from inside the tent last elk season.

so the trailer is the bedroom, and the tent is the front room

Ya, tent is common area. The tarped space between the tent and the trailer is the kitchen and the trailer is the bedrooms.
