Rules have been modified to meet WDFW requirements and concerns.... PLEASE READ
Coyote Contest Rules:
1. 30 teams max
2. 10 Members max per team
3. Washington Coyotes Only Coyotes must have been taken during the 2011 Fall and early 2012 Winter hunting season. NO ROADKILL
4. Entries Accepted Submit photos beginning 12:01 am Dec 10, 2011 to Midnight Feb 28, 2012.
5. Eligible Hunting Area includes any area statewide open for coyote hunting
6. State Hunting Licenses & Regulations Apply (hunting at night, weapons restrictions, area restrictions, see hunting regulations)
7. Licensed Guests/Kids may accompany team members and hunt as follows. A guest hunter can be a newbie or a relative from out of town. If a guest kills an animal while hunting with a team member then it can count toward your team total as long as someone from the team was there. A guest hunter can't go out by themself and shoot coyotes for any team. A guest hunter's coyotes can only count toward your total for one hunt. If your guest hunts with you more than once, they must become a team member for their coyotes to be entered. Kids (under 18) can accompany team members and contribute to the teams total as often as desired as long as they are with a team member.
8. Honor system applies
9. Photo of kill with at least one team member must to be submitted for points to be awarded. (or a card with team name shown in photo) Photos should be in as good of taste as possible, with the nastiest side of the coyote towards the ground. Any photo judged to be of poorer taste than necessary will be disqualified.
10. Adding A Team Member This is allowed after the start of the contest, but any coyotes shot prior to hunting with your team do not count.
11. No hand gestures needed for photos.
12. This is a "fun" event. No money or big prizes involved, so I would hope our members keep it on the up and up.
13. Don't drag frozen coyotes around to different locations and take pictures.
14. Highest Scoring Team will be based on the point system shown below.
15. Member Taking Most Coyotes For this winner each coyote taken during contst scores only 1 point, regardless of location or weapon.
16. Member Scoring Most Points Will be based on the point system shown below.
17. Most Coyotes Taken In A 12 Hour Period Take one photo of coyotess (both ears of an animal are acceptable in lieu of a pelt or in the round).
18. Heaviest Coyote You will need to show a clearly visible picture of the scale weight.
19. Best Photo To be decided by member poll at the end of the contest.
20. Best Sportsmanship Judges will choose the participant who exhibits the most sportsmanlike conduct, no kills are necessary.

This is Washington state law and we do not want to cross into any shaded areas here on the forum. So I have sent a request in to the proper person for a determination on this competition as well as our Head & Horns competitions. Twice before I was involved in coyote contests and in both cases they said we needed the permit. I would much rather get the permit than be in violation of the law. I am sure everyone feels the same way. Last winter I heard about one coyote hunt that was shut down, we don't want that to happen.
WAC 232-12-169
Hunting contests.
A person wishing to hold a hunting contest must comply with the following provisions:
(1) Only organizations filed with the state of Washington as a nonprofit corporation may apply for a hunting contest permit.
(2) Hunting contest permit applications shall be submitted to the department 30 days prior to the date for which the contest is proposed.
(3) Applications must include the permit fee required by RCW 77.32.211. The fee will be returned if the permit is denied.
(4) Contests are restricted to the species approved on the permit.
(5) Total value of prizes per contest shall not exceed $2000.
(6) Entry fees or requests for donations are prohibited.
(7) It is unlawful to fail to comply with the conditions of a hunting contest permit.
Hunting contests which may adversely affect wildlife resources will be denied.
-
I would like to kick in a few bucks for the permit fee if allowed. And for the pole sitters watching out there I am volunteering this of my own will, I have not been asked or suggested to do this.
-
Put me on a team please. Good luck to all.
You're close to Yakima, aren't you? Team member Raul Duke is in Yakima. So far we have 3 confirmed on the team. Rules say 5. We aren't "The gang who couldn't shoot straight" Raul and I just can't seem to get a shot off at all! :chuckle:

I haven't seen my coyote gun since last spring,(has anybody seen it ) :chuckle: it may take 30 or 40 rounds just to learn how to shoot again. With all the dawgs that were killed in this area last year, they have rebounded really well.
-
I bet they have, they seem to replace faster then you can kill them
-
Teams updated through this post.

Count us in (Team Bustin Tail)Wackmaster,Stickinmaster,Klickrivercromer

I will be out this winter if anyone needs another hunter.

Any of the free agents wanna start up a Team ? I'm on the northeast side of unit 101, not to good of coyotin' here though. Too many people shoot at them year 'round. Have gun will travel... :hunter:
-
could of killed three today with a blade of grass.... :chuckle: :chuckle: Went fishin this morning and we saw one about 200 yrds up the river so I took a blade of grass and started squeeking with it and all the sudden two more popped out and ran within 50yrds of us and just sat there looking ... all three would of took a nap if I just had my gun .... next time I will :yeah:
-
I'll get in on this action! Still learning the ropes, but if somebody needs another team mate I'm in!

Can we have grundy53 as an alternate ? He's on the westside, no offense, and thought he might wanna join on that side.
-
Got another team!! :hunter:
Team Smoke'Em
Traildigger, OneShotOneKill, whamy89, bowleggedman
-
does it count if I hit one with my truck? :dunno: if so then I got a east side yote today going up e forker rd on my way to bigelow glutch rd. sorry no pics I was to busy getting the young male off of my exhaust pipe to take photos, then the funny part a animal control guy stopped and asked me if I hit a dog, when I let him know its a coyote he asked if he could have it :dunno: hide was ruined a 8000lb truck with 36/12.50 tires then 800 degree exhuast kinda ruins them and makes it smell really bad in your truck for the next few miles..
-
I don't care which team im on. Just want to kill yotes :chuckle:
-
6) Multipliers: Muzzleloader - points x 1.5,
How about shotgun kills???? Are they worth anything?

-
Looks like SBA will play again this year, VV, Falfire,Bullelk, Big10 so far. I'm probaly gonna be the one that drags the team down this year as I am pretty much working up to 7 days a week until we get the new radiology system up and running. Hopefully it'll be over sometime in Jan. Maybe I'll start night calling :)
-
November 1st needs to be today!
-
CORYTDF.........Slow down son, still got 2-1/5 weeks to go, you'll run out of points too fast!
Damn kids :chuckle:
-
Those are alaskan grey wolf pups arent they.
-
Yes it does need to be here I nailed one today. Anyone else what to join
-
Quick question, what about predators taken via trapping?
-
If there is an open spot for a Spokane team or if anyone would like to put one together, I'm in.
-
I will allow trapped coyotes at 1 point each. No bonus for shotgun. It isn't more difficult, just a different tool, which can be better than a rifle under the right circumstances.
-
Sounds good. Nov 1st cant come fast enough
-
I think an archery dog needs to have about 10 points to it.....but at least 5

How is Muzzle diffrent , compared to a shotgun? Some reach out to quit a distance now.Seems like a "similar tool".
NEVERTHELESS! I'm back from 7 hard days of hunting (deer) and ready to take some fustration out on some yotes. :whoo:

It's like waiting for Christmas, I want it to be here now!

-
I am so bent on this date and points issue! Tonight I had a group less than a 1/8 mile from my house just singing like crazy! Just installed new trigger and itching to shoot something!
-
Just calm down 204chucknorris.... You will get your chance what's 5 or 6 days going to matter when it comes to missing your first yote of the season? :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
:chuckle: :tung:you know what smackel. I think I seen your lover from last year still running around telling all his friends how he licked your barrel. Yeah thats right pipe down. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
There needs to be extra points given for coyotes taken with pistols (handguns firing rifle caliber ammunition not eligible).
-
:yeah:
-
hey just a thought....i think if you shoot multiple coyotes in one day you need to have just one picture of them all together, instead of people taking 12 different pictures of 2 different coyotes.... what do you think?
-

Sometimes that would work out okay when you kill a few on one stand or a short distance apart, but there are way too many times I put a couple of miles in between stands and I ain't carrying stinkin' bloody dogs from stand to stand.
One thing that I think we should do, is for all coyotes taken for this event, we should have a card or sheet of paper with the team name and 2011/2012 in bold letters place next to the kills so no one is attaching photos from years gone by. We all can afford to snag a piece of paper and a magic marker to print the TEAM name and year lay it next to or on top of the kill and take a photograph right after a kill. I'm certain since most of us here have a computer to access this site, most of us have a printer. Simply come up with your Team logo and the 2011/2012 and print out a few to keep with you while hunting. Just my :twocents:

Sagebrush Assassins have been doing this the last couple of years and it seems to work well for the one doing the adding. The only thing I would add is, spell your team name out completely on the paper. Make it as easy as possible to keep the tally.

Well, since your offering..... Team Deadfowl might like something. That is, if the Mrs. is up to it.

Ok guys I'm not on a team yet this year but I have to share a funny story with you.
Last week while deer hunting with another member in the asotin area I kicked a rock over the edge of a draw and out came a dog in around 2nd gear, my buddy saw it first and we both sat down real fast and leveled down on him as he was going over the hill at about 250 300 yards. He shoots a 300 RUM and I shoot a 300 WSM, in the race to see who drills him first we some how both let go at the same time! this dog went flying! I mean he came off the ground! I looked at my partner and said " I was dead on!" he said "me to!" We sat and wondered how many bullets that dog had avoided in his life then get drilled with 330 grains of nosler! Sorry had to share that one wish I had it on video :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
I'll throw team deadfowl in her work que :chuckle:  I'll need a pm of names and a idea of what you guys would like on it. When she finishes team warning shots I'll post it up so people have a idea.

Still looking for a team :dunno:

How many Points is a legal Idaho or Montana Wolf kill worth?
-
Myself, Swag, Wiseoldyote, 204chucknorris and Wile E. Hunter are the meat and potatoes of newly formed Team Dogpile. We fully look forward to a good long race and ultimately taking the title back from SBA.
Best of Luck to everyone, keep safe, shoot straight and for guys like SWAG, better reload another batch..... :chuckle:
-
I like the name gringo.. but if team warning shots has any say it in we will be holding the title :chuckle: :chuckle:

team deadfowl's logo card design.
-
Sebek556,
That is so grerat! Tell your wife we love it. Thanks again. :IBCOOL:
-
I like the idea of a card with the date. If you forget the card, grab a couple of sticks or grass and make it into an 11 or 12. I will have teams updated tonight.
-
Sebeck556 can you email the logo so I can get it printed off and be ready by tuesday? Thanks, they look awesome!!
-
Me, Elkslayer99, and kim204 are Team Wack'em and Stack'em. More people might join the team but waiting for an email back from them.

How many Points is a legal Idaho or Montana Wolf kill worth?
5) Misc. called animals (ie: badgers, cougars, wolves - Idaho) will be awarded points by a random drawing of 10, 20, or 30 points that are selected out of a hat.
-
Can we fix that part as well?
I think that anyone on a team that kills a lions, legal wolves, etc should get points whether or not it was called in. I think all predators should be worth points.
-
Please add fishnate to Team Wack'em and Stack'em.
-
So, is this gonna happen? There have been numerous people making teams, but the first page with the team list hasn't been updated. I know it's hunting season and all, but I'm just curious. :-)
-

There is already a provision in the rules for awarding points for cats, wolves, etc. Pretty good, IMHO, being as it's called COYOTE Madness IV. :twocents: ;)
-
The question I have is points for a lion (for example) even if it wasn't called it. It currently is worded that they have to be called in. I would guess that most of the yotes killed aren't called it, or that it is 50/50 at best.

In my opinion, a kill is a kill. But then, I'm a barbarian!

Early morning stand in the dark.... what a rush, 20 yards 223..

Holy Cow Swag...................Will ya at least let me get one cup of coffee down??? :hello:

:yeah:

I was actually drinking my coffee around 4 when I herd a group cut loose, I looked at my phone & noticed today was the 1st, figured I would see how rusty I was.... :dunno: :dunno:
It has been a real challenge to keep from shooting yotes for the last 6 weeks...
Even bigger challenge to Keep Gringo from shooting them.... :bash: :bash: :bash: But for the most part he managed to keep his composier & only whack a few.... He said "it was peer pressure", I am not sure if I buy that.. :liar:
It looks to be a good year already....

Please add rynokron to the Sky Valley Pelt Takers.

Got out with My buddy doug this A.M. and got this little guy.
-
Now Coyotes have cell phones??? I'm never gonna find animal again lol
-
How much did Verizon pay for that product placement?
-
Good thing you shot him before he called his buddies and warned them about the hunters!
-
Can we fix that part as well?
I think that anyone on a team that kills a lions, legal wolves, etc should get points whether or not it was called in. I think all predators should be worth points.
Basically, I want to eliminate animals shot over bait or hounds. So lucking into these animals is acceptable as well.
-
Ok teams updated through this post, but scores are not entered for the coyotes killed yet. I will make up the scoresheet and get it entered in soon.
Good job all. I spent the morning trying for a lion, but had to settle for a couple of grouse and quail. Had one coyote at 75 yards, but he knew where the Reservation line was.
Good luck everyone and let me know if I have any mistakes on the teams.
-
How much did Verizon pay for that product placement?
Yeah and their new slogan is going to be "Rule the Hair" :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Sitting here drinking coffee waiting for my hunting partner to show up. Hopefully we can talk a coyote into coming within .300 Mag. Range...I want to get one into range of the .454 casull

And yes waking up for VV that early is tough duty :chuckle:
-
nice going Falfire. Rick ;)
Rick,
Congrats are due to the shooter, VarmintVentilator whacked that one, I just got to watch and call out distance numbers to him as I watched through the range finder. He popped one the other day at 535 yards but it wasn't hit hard enough to stop it so there just might be a dead dog out there somewhere if someone wants it. Ya just gotta find it :dunno:
-
:bash: you guys are killing me, gotta get a few things finished up at the house before winter hits, and a deer for the boy then its on! looks like I am gonna have to pop the first one with the bow to make up the points
-
still good job. i wonder how many points for a live coyote that's funny there. Rick :chuckle:
-
Couple teams already on the board. Once I get back from elk camp, its on like donkey Kong. We will be on the board by thus weekend!

Unlike VV's coyote that one is definitely dead :)

We had her inside 150yds. when she turned tail and ran Just a mistake on our part, but it's early. Her mistake was thinking she was out of range.

dang My wife needs to have my girl so I can get out somemore and not worry about trying to rush to the hospital :chuckle:

Well I may have gave Gringo a little to much of a hard time, about keeping pace with me instead of just stacking them up.... So he decided that he could spend a little bit of time to try & put a dog or two down. :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:

He is a dog that I have been after for 3 years now :bash: & I am hoping he is getting dumber with age.... :dunno: :dunno: Today is the first time I have been able to get this close to him & of coarse it was on ground that I couldn't do any thing about it. >:(

Don't you two have actual work to do? :chuckle: I'm sure it says somewhere in the rules that you guys can't get that far ahead of us on the count chart. :dunno: Nice Job stack'in them up.

Picked up a double last night. Then a single this morning at 347yards followed up by a double 5 min later, first one was the only one I saw at 100 yards, dumped her and her boyfriend bolted left to right about 220. Heart shot him on the run.
When you're hot, you're hot :chuckle:
-
Going to make the looong boring drive to Ephrata at 2pm tomorrow. Hopefully there are some somewhat slow dogs around Scootney Resevoir that need pistoled to death! I need to take some time off and go do some serious slaying...the snow cant get here quick enough!
-
Looks like Gringo just went over our teams season total in one day :bash: :chuckle:

I talked with Donny Martorello yesterday 11-03-11, apparently our permit request was handed off and somehow overlooked, he said we must have the permit so we are not breaking the law and he will get it coming to us. But until we have the permit the contest cannot begin so I am locking the topic until we get the permit.
I will post here as soon as we get the permit and I will unlock the topic so you guys can start entering your animals. Once we have the permit, we will allow entry of any animals taken from Nov 1 to Feb 28. But the contest cannot begin until we have the permit. Save your entries until the contest begins.
-
Talked with Donny Martorello again today. The coyote contest permit is in the mail, as soon as I recieve the permit I will post that the contest can begin and you can all begin posting your entries.
No entries will be allowed until the permit is in hand as required by law.
Go ahead and continue forming teams for now. Due to data lost when the forum was down, if you formed a team between Nov 4 and Nov 16, you need to repost it again.

I called in 4 coyotes today. Problem was I'm hunting for deer and only had my bow. It's a long story i'sll share later but I called one in by barking like a dog back and forth for 10 min. I f would have had a gun it would have been game on.

-
Nobody answered my question about shotguns and pistols :'(
There are no special provisions given to shotgun or handgun kills, you get 1 point or 3 if you are a west sider. This contest is not about calling any predator, shoot 'em over bait piles or while they are raiding your trashcan. :mgun2: :whoo:
Here are the rules from page 1:
Rules:
1) 5 members max per team - guest/kids can count towards your total as long as they aren't regular members of your team. *Here is what I had in mind for a "guest hunter" Sometimes you take a newbie out, sometimes a relative rolls into town and you take them out. If you kill an animal on these hunts then it can count toward your total as long as someone from the team was there. A guest hunter can't go out by themselves one time, kill ten coyotes, and have that total counted to someone's team. (For rule clarification: A guest hunter can only count toward your total for one hunt, and must be accompanied by a team member.)
2) No roadkill
3) Honor system applies
4) Photo of kill with at least one team member needs to be submitted for points to be awarded. (Or a card with team name)
5) You can add someone to your team after the 1st, but any coyotes they shoot prior to be putting on your team do not count.
6) No hand gestures needed for photos. This is a "fun" event. No money or big prizes involved, so I would hope our members keep it on the up and up. Don't drag frozen coyotes around to different locations and take pictures. For the heaviest and smallest coyote, you will need to show a picture of the scale. For the most animals taken in a 12 hour period, you will need to take a group shot (both ears of the animal are acceptable in lieu of a pelt or in the round). For the most animals award, I will be counting all animals, regardless of type as 1 point (ie, 4 bobcats, 3 coyotes = 7). This is not the calculation for your point total, just that part of the contest that applies to animals.
Scoring:
1) West Side Coyote - 3
2) East side Coyote - 1
3) Bobcats - 4
4) Foxes - 2
5) Misc. called animals (ie: badgers, cougars, wolves - Idaho) will be awarded points by a random drawing of 10, 20, or 30 points that are selected out of a hat.
6) Multipliers: Muzzleloader - points x 1.5, Compound Bow - points x 3, Traditional Bow - points x 5, Out-of state animals - points x .5
7) Photo .5/per animal - capped at 10 per team
-
Please add team Wheatfield Wackers, It will consist of Gutpile, and MHWASH.
-
I live in Lacey, WA. I have a Fox Pro FireStorm and Woodpecker attractor. I would like to join a team in the Olympia area. Please send me a message. I work three days a week and am a night Owl. I want to do some serious coyote hunting.

Happy Thanksgiving, to everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving!
This morning, there are deer and upland birds thankful that there are a few less coyotes around than yesterday :IBCOOL:
-
Anybody in tricities need a team member?
-
I'd like to be added to a team. I'm heading out deer hunting in the AM- If I get time I might do a few sets. It doesn't look like I'll be doing much hunting this year because of work. Also- I no longer have a coyote gun :( , 22-250 went bye bye. Hopefully there will be something left if I get one because it will be with the .50 muzzle loader or the .300 win mag. :chuckle:
-
who is looking for a team mate? Someone add, i'm not picky and I hunt a lot. I wont be getting any coyotes, but i can bring a fox or two to the table.
I guess first team that wakes up in the morning and says "add addicted to my team" would be good with me, i'm abou to head out on a hunting trip and i'll see if i can have points when i return at the end of the weekend. .

Hey addicted what part of the state are ya pulling in the fox?

IS THERE A PERMIT YET ?? :dunno: :dunno:
-
IS THERE A PERMIT YET ?? :dunno: :dunno:
Well, not likely, we did come off of a Holiday weekend and and the slow boat from China, that brings the mail, is really only a one man rubber raft (read inner tube) and the Captain uses a spoon for an ore.
I really doubt that WDFW wants this thing to continue as planned, we will likely never see their permit, more likely they will try to fine the owners of this website for any past contests :bash:
-
I did not get the permit yet and I was expecting it in the mail. I emailed Donny Martorello and he said he thought it was mailed. He is going to check again this morning. As soon as I recieve the permit, I will post on here so everyone can start posting their entries.

Rick, I really don't think anyone here is upset in the least with Dale. Personally, I think Dale is doing a tremendous job and his performance here has certainly not gone un-noticed. I do however believe the WDFW is not stepping up to the plate on their end. I know it likely boils down to a secretary dragging her feet but still, it's the whole idea of the permit thing anyway. :dunno:
Thank you Dale for your commitment to this board and to those of us that care.

Addicted you can join our team we won't come close to winning but we have fun hunt mostly west side

They said go ahead and slay. When the permit comes up you will be scored for kills in the madness timeframe once the permit arrives. They still count as long as permit exists and gets mailed.

The permit has been held up again, I have had several discussions on the phone, over email, and even in person, regarding this permit. Today I offered a small change in the rules to try and get this through, we'll see what happens. If we don't get a positive reply this week we'll pull the word contest, remove any prizes and rules, and you guys can just bang away and post your photos for everyones enjoyment.
In the meantime you are all welcome to coyote hunt, we just can't enter any animals in the contest until it's approved and I have the permit in hand. They told me I would have an answer Wednesday, let's give it till the end of the week to see what happens with WDFW, then I will let you know if we can have the contest or not.
-
If we get to have the contest can I be on the admin team (if there's still room), if not please put me with another team.
-
Thanks Dale, I am confident you will do everything in your power to see this happen. I just wish I had time to hunt and make it all worth while.
-
Contest or not, does anyone want to adopt some dead weight? :hello:
-
Why don't we just call it "Coyote Madness" eliminate the word contest, who cares :dunno: A place where everyone can show photos of their kills. That way there is no contest, no BS and we simply share our photos. Who really cares about prizes anyways, this is for fun. I mean if you were giving away a two week hunting trip to Alaska or a new boat okay, but if I need a new call, I'll buy it.
We may have to drop the word "TEAM" so not to conflict with rules of the GODS at WDFW :dunno:
-
Ok fine FAL! Does anyone want some dead weight on their... posse? :hello:

I understand that, and it was a good plan. Somehow, this thing got all turned inside out! Oh........... but isn't that what happens when Goberment gets involved in anything?
-
Very true. We obviously try to do things by the rules, unfortunately sometimes that creates one hell of a headacheand I add....makes very little sense sometimes
-
Here's my :twocents:
I would rather hear the stories behind every dead coyote posted, just looking at a pic of a dead coyote without any story behind it is pretty boring. I imagine any coyotes shot from 10_1 to present probably won't have much if any "stories" to go with them if they are posted.
Thanks Dale for trying so hard to get it thru

And we do appreciate that, this website is representative of a group and cause so that only makes sense. But if there is no "CONTEST", then we as a group, have not broken any rules......Right?

So the people you are dealing with in wdfw are liars? Didn't they tell you they mailed you the permit? It makes me sick to think that the wdfw thinks that little of us. Even though they are supposed to work for us. I applaud your effort and appreciate everything you do for us. Thank you
Grundy, Donny had told me he was mailing it before he left for vacation that day. He didn't know it was going to be held up by the Assistant Director, so it wasn't a lie, just the way the circumstances ended up. Then there was a delay before the Assistant Director and I could organize our schedules to have a phone conference. After our discussion, I can say they had legitimate concerns which needed addressed.
Thanks, Dale

The WDFW should be paying bounty's on every coyote we shoot instead of creating hoops we have to jump through in order to have a simple contest, in which there are NO PRIZES.
Hello? Is anybody from the WDFW reading this? All we want to do is have some fun and in the process reduce the coyote population, which will in turn, help to increase the deer population! Aren't you guys in favor of having more deer for us to hunt? (hint- more deer helps sell more tags)
:bash: :bash: :bash:

WDFW.....sad.....just plain pathetic.

sounds a lot like my dealings with enforcment supervision in OLY. It"s in the mail, oh I forgot, been soo busy, get right back to you, now it's in the mail, now you need to send 50 bucks and i'll mail it.

A prime example of why people are getting fed up with "Government". :bash:

A little off topic but ... make sure you all write a letter to the dept.. on how pothedic they are and also you are not in favor of using sportsmen monies to reinterduce wolves into the state of Washington... Think about that for a good minute :dunno: Using our money to end what we love to do ....Go hunting ...how sweet is that !?

It's to bad Bearpaw that you have to waist your time screwing with politics when you could be out doing what you enjoy.
Thanks for all your time and effort. V V

Not necessary for you to wait, go ahead and kill'em, just hang onto your photos for when and or if we get the permit.

It seems Dale has been spending more of his precious personal time with this. I've been trying to apply pressure as well. Here is the email I got just now...
Dale talked with our assistant director yesterday. I think we're a day away. I'm very sorry for the delay.

Guess this means we're good to go beginning 12-10-11 I am pumped, this waiting has been killing me!! Any idea how much ammo I've gone through zeroing and re-zeroing my rifles waiting for this day!!! I'm so poor now from buying powder and bullets I can't afford the fuel to light the truck up now!! :yike: Damn diesel is 4.50 a gallon and my wife won't let me use her Subeeroo, guess she don't like blood in the carpet. :chuckle:

great news!

Good thing all you have to do is walk out the door, to be in good coyote country.
-
A good question has been asked:
Dale, do coyotes in other States count in the Madness or is it ONLY Wa. State dogs?
Some guys have the privilege to hunt Montana and Idaho for a good number of dogs, but the rest of us here are stuck in Wa. Those of us on the Eastside have it pretty good but I personally believe that is an unfair advantage to those living on the Westside of the State.
Do you guys want out of state coyotes to still be eligible? I can ask WDFW if we can allow it, if you want it that way. Not sure they can permit us that way, but I can ask if desired. What do you all think?

Whooooooooo Meeeeeeee??
Not anymore, my wife hates it when I shoot from the porch, now I have to at least go out behind the shop. I told her, all I need is a suppressor and she will never be awakened up to the boom again at 5am. :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle:
Women.........they'll never understand :bash:

No out of state coyotes, means no screwing with WDFW again. Lets go Hunting-Washington. Thanks again Dale for all your time and effort. It's time to Ventilate some dogs.

why didnt we think of that before! then all the coyotes we shot would have been "out of state" coyotes :) next year you just need to name it like "somewhere other than washington coyote madness" lol
-
Awesome, thanks for all your work on this, Bearpaw.
-
hey no problem guys....
I have already provided the revised rules to WDFW and asked them if out-of-state coyotes pose any problems with the contest.
Remember, you can start posting your pictures after midnight tonight....
I'm gonna have to dig out the old .220, she has a little dust on her, but she still shoots 5/8 groups, now if I can just find a yote.... :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
You should have noooooo problem finding yotes up your way.
Now that this permit thing is behind us, you should have ALLLLL the time in the world to go callin'
And a huge THANK YOU for all your efforts there Dale, great job :rockin:
-
I have another lion hunt in Idaho then heading home to :mgun: :brew:
-
Thanks Dale, sorry you had to go through all the :bs:
-
I miss my 220 swift awsome round. now i have a 22-250 ,223 and a 270wsm my wolf gun. If i can donate a couple call's Dale let me know. Thanks for everything. Rick
-
I think it all looks good. Thanks again Dale. The only thing I don't care for is the 10 member team. While I see that anyone should be able to participate if they wanted to and 30 teams with 10 members is a 300 person limit. Can we keep it at 5 unless we run across the issue of all filled up then add more?
Either way, it's all good. I'm guessing that any changes are a pain in the backside to do. So no worries. Those of us that shoot yotes do it with or without a coyote madness, but it is one of my favorite parts of this forum. There are some great guys on here  I do hope that this "contest" encourages fellow hunters to get outdoors with friends and family aiding our game species to boot.

I'm for 5 + camp followers. This has been like watching a soap opera. Didn't think it would ever end. Nice work! YAY! :IBCOOL:

I am going to have to side with Gringo When it comes to the number of members on each team. But in the end it really does not matter that is the beauty of this Forum. Out of all the derby's I've been involved with this is by far the most fun. With the least amount of drama, it is unfortunate that it has come to the point where it has to be governed in such a manner, but it is what it is. Dale thanks again for all of your hard work we really do appreciate it I would hunt coyotes anyway but this just makes it far more fun.
-
I got a picture of one, and with any luck he will no longer be alive by Sunday afternoon. :chuckle:
Oh, and this is a "3 point" coyote!

Bobcat, if I may correct you sir!
That is a 3.5 point coyote
If ya kill him! :chuckle:

NO NO NO ... ITS A ZERO POINT COYOTE :chuckle: :dunno:
-
Actually I don't know if a trail camera picture counts? I don't think so. I was thinking the 1/2 point was for coyotes that a guy called in and took a picture of....
Maybe we need some clarification on this. Because I could get lots of trail camera pictures of them if I tried.

Gringo
I was hoping tlbradford would weigh in, this is his baby, but I was anxious to turn everyone loose to start posting their pics starting tonight after midnight. Maybe we could keep it at 5 man teams until we have 30 teams and then start stacking people one or two at a time onto teams so no team has ten and another 4, or something like that, what do you guys think?
Bobcat, can you pull the photo till after midnight, then put it back up so we collect the point for the photo? Unless someone else thinks it shouldn't be allowed, I saw nothing saying trail cams don't count in the original rules, unless I missed it. :chuckle:
Ya I know we don't stand a chance against "gringo the slayer"..... :chuckle:
Rick, that donation would be awesome, tell me which prize you want your call put on?

A special Howler for first coyote. And another one for your choice of prize I have two. The guy that cast my call parts has special wolf Howlers. I got two for donating. Loren called in his third wold two Fridays ago . I'll get pictures when I get home home. Heading into Cabelas. Rick

I busted one this morning. :chuckle: Day early and a dollar short. Oh well, I bet there are more in the Wenas. AND NO, I won't stick him in the freezer and pull him out tomorrow :chuckle:

Bone, I don't think there is a problem entering him tommorrow. The WDFW is writing the other permits so we can enter big game taken this fall when we get the permit the seasons will have already ended. I wrote the coyote rules so everyone can enter their coyotes in the contest. Several guys are planning on entering photos of the yotes already taken this fall/winter.
It says:
3. Only Coyotes May Be Entered Coyotes must have been taken during the 2011 Fall and early 2012 Winter hunting season. NO ROADKILL
4. Entries Accepted Submit photos beginning 12:01 am Dec 10, 2011 to Midnight Feb 28, 2012.

I'm now 56-0 but still hitting it hard. Went out this morning, fog was just to thick. I'll try it again around 3pm.

That is correct, any previous photos are not entered. Anyone in the contest needs to wait till after midnight.
Recieved two clarifications from WDFW minutes ago, I will modify rules slightly to reflect this:
• Coyotes that are harvested outside Washington cannot be a part of the contest. Washington statute(s) and rule(s) for ‘hunting contests’ only apply to Washington and Washington wildlife.
• All team members, including guests, are required to have a Washington hunting license (small game or any big game license) to harvest coyotes.
-
Okay............Define.............SPORTSMANSHIP !!
I really doubt I would ever fall under this category :chuckle:
:yike: :yike: :yike: Crap Now I have to purchase a HUNTING LICENSE !! :bash: :bash:
-
Dale that will be great. Rick
-
O.k ...Are we talking coyotes that have been called in or everything goes except road kills ....The guys on the eastside have a little advantage over us guys on the westside ..there is so much area over there they can drive around all day and kill coyotes .... just asking because I have only counted ones I have called in but I am not opposed to drive bys as long as I know what everyone else is doing :dunno:
-
If you shoot a coyote, it counts. Doesn't matter your method of hunting. Dead is dead. I think running one down in the road with your truck should count too, but maybe not. :chuckle:
-
o.k ...I think about this one ...once in awhile I can kill a drive by but not much ....but I will next time :chuckle: :chuckle:

I had assumed tlbradford meant "dead on road" so that is what I meant. I think as long as hunting regulations are foillowed, coyotes taken by any legal means should be allowed. For example I hunt a lot of farms with internal private roads and mountain roads that are legal to shoot a coyote along. If anyone does not understand which types of roadways are legal to shoot along, you had better check before hunting.
Perhaps someone can offer legal clarification on this for everyones benefit. We do not want any mistakes by anyone, it would decrease our chances of being permitted again.
I think there is an obvious reason you get 3 points for westside coyotes. :twocents:
Prizes: We now have donated prizes for each winner!
Now is a good time to look for any other flaws in these rules.......
-
All is good !! just want to make sure we all play by the same rules ...and shooting what I call ( drive bys ) is from the road :chuckle: and if it is legal then so be it ..... Just can not shoot from the pavement or out of a vehicle ...Just incase some do not know :dunno: :chuckle:
-
I agree, we need everyone on the same page. I'm hoping someone will post up the legal language regarding shooting along roadways so everyine knows. I don't really have time to look for it today.
Another thought, this is the first time I've had involvement in this contest, if I am offbase with something compared to previous years, please let me know.
-
Dead is dead. I think running one down in the road with your truck should count too, but maybe not.
I ran over one in reverse once :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Hey Raul Duke, is that 56 kills with 0 misses?
I wish, I was that good of a yote hunter. Its 56 stands - 0 kills since Nov 1st. Last dead yote was Oct 30th. I've been giving them a pass, untill the contest was offical. :chuckle:
-
Bearpaw, are there no bonus point categories this year for fox, bobcat, and cougars? If I recall there were in years past, but then that was before WDFW got all up in our business (in my best ebonics voice) with this permit crap. :chuckle:
-
:chuckle: :chuckle: I have been in a ditch or two myself :chuckle: :chuckle:

I'd like to start everything in a new thread so we can get 22 pages out of it.
I also think we need to clarify......Coyotes don't count before Dec 10 CORRECT?
-
I believe they DO count bone.
-
Please add CamoKen to Teamdeadfowl. Thanks.
P.S. Thanks Dale for all the hard work.

They freakin better. That would suck to have gotten the green light to go hit all the spots and kill all the dogs only to have them not count.
-
I think all coyotes should be CALLED in .
-
Id like to join a team for fun if somebody would have me, all my hunting buddies linger on HW but the only one that is a member is hardcore into ducks right now, would be hard for me to form a team. Also don't expect much from me being a rookie to predator calling, but when i get into something new I hit it head first and learn fast. Sounds fun nonetheless.

the way I understand it they do count as Nov 1 st but since we did not have a Permit yet they removed the photos but you can now post them back as of midnight tonight ....Everyone needs to read page #1 think it covers all of it ..The only thing I have a problem with is having at least one team member in the picture because I usually hunt by myself so thats hard to do ....So out of 7 I have killed only 2 count :dunno: :bash:
-
:bash: :bash: (insert as many swear word as you can think of here) comp hard drive fatal crash, lost everything.. 5 dead yotes by bow and 2 by 300wsm :bash: :bash:

My understanding is that you can have either one team member in the photo or a paper with your team name one it next to the coyote. Do you have that with the other 5 coyotes? If not, write on a peice of paper of you team name and your name and take a picture of your coyote with that paper in it. Hope that helps
Rule #9. Photo of kill with at least one team member must to be submitted for points to be awarded. (or a card with team name shown in photo)

There are lots of kids over here that think that driving the roads and shooting at them from the truck is the only way to hunt dogs but VarmintVentilator and I get out and walk our azz's off trying to let the air out of these things. We do a lot of calling with E-callers and mouth callers both. I've had friends come over to hunt dogs and when they find out we actually do a ton of walking they are flat wore out when they go home. We'll be hitting it tomorrow at 6am and I can guarentee we won't be shooting' from the truck and it's gonna to be fricken cold out there.
-
No shooting from the truck? :yike: Dang, now I have to find my mittens and bunny cap. I think my wife gave them to my dog to wear. :chuckle:

o.k I was adding someone to my team and it posted here again :dunno: :dunno: :chuckle: I give up

Bone or Tbrd,
I think starting a new thread might be worth while to save 20+ pages of nadda. Better lock this one up to stop people from posting dog pics here in a few hours.
-
Bone and Gringo are right, it will make it simple if we start out with a new topic and everyone posts there photos there. I will post up a new topic that starts out clean.
To clarify a few things:
FYI - The rules will clearly state: Coyotes may be taken by any legal means.. I think that is the easiest way to avoid lots of discussions about what each person thinks is "fair chase or ethical" coyote hunting.
Shooting from truck. - To clarify, no coyotes may be shot from inside a vehicle, you may not be in or on a vehicle when shooting while hunting in Washington.
9. Photo of kill with at least one team member must to be submitted for points to be awarded. (or a card with team name shown in photo) Photos should be in as good of taste as possible, with the nastiest side of the coyote towards the ground.
