Lets keep a running list of all the bucks killed by our members on here for 2011.
Post a pic or 2 and a brief story here and we'll see what we've got at the end of the season.
-
After stalking this buck through knee deep water, it swam across a deep channel and stepped up on an island. After a few minutes it gave me a 20 yard broadside shot and I released my arrow. The arrow smashed both shoulders and lodged just under the skin on the far side. He dropped right there and died quickly. It then got exciting as I tried to figure out how to retrieve him from the island in the middle of the pond. I ended up getting across the channel on a small log and tied a rope around his antlers. I then threw the rope across the channel, crawled back across my log, and dragged him across. While not a monstrous buck, this island blacktail gave me a hunting experience I will never forget.
-
Very nice oneshot. It's all about the experience and memories.
-
Beautiful BT buck and a great story. Congrats!
-
 wow Great Buck where was this
-
walking along seen em at 30 yards shot him and dumped him no big story
-
After scouting my area and finding this buck in july I found him on opening weekend, missed him twice. I went back with my kids on the fallowing weekend and found him again for a third time and got my buck. This is my first muzzy buck, and the funnest hunt I've had in years.

2011 High hunt.
Thats one fine buck their now !!!!
-
Mine and my dad's muzzleloader bucks. We saw Dad's buck twice in August in this bench now termed the buck hole (we've killed three bucks and missed one in three years hunting it). It's a very, very small bench. For some reason, there is always one buck there. My buck was feeding in an eyebrow at 2:30pm. I stalked on top of him, shot him at 50 yards. Hell of an entry hole.

My mom's buck. She has an unreal success rate. Since she received chemo for breast cancer in 2007, she began hunting in 2008, and has killed 3 bucks on opening day. Last year was the first year she didn't kill a buck; she missed a really good 4pt the last weekend. Essentially, she has hunted five days and killed three bucks. This buck has double eyegaurds on his right side, and she was really happy with him. Forgot to say that the buck had been shot with a .22 right behind the nose. So whoever the *censored* was that tried to poach this deer, it lived, luckily, for a while.
-
2011 high buck.

My wife's Southeastern WA buck.
Nice buck Jennifer!! Congrats!!! Good to see you over here in WA :chuckle:

Deer camp was set up in unit 101 and we were hunting some low public land. The morning hunt was a bust as we got fogged in at one of my favorite look out spots and since there were so many other hunters I was hoping they would drive deer right to me. After a few hours of nothing but fog and other hunters we went back to the camp for lunch.
After lunch I went out early and hiked into a nice area and begin to still hunt. I would take 10 paces and stop for 60 seconds take 5 steps stop again. I spent more time looking around than moving. After about 45 min I came atop a ridge with a valley below and this nice looking mule deer looking right up at me. He stared at me for a few seconds and then got up and started to run. I shot him right through the front shoulders as he was running! After he fell, I grabbed the radio and said “BIG BUCK DOWN”! my two buddies came and we got him back to the truck, took some victory shots (my other friend Jack Daniels helped us celebrate) and headed back to clean him up a bit. You all should have seen the boys run to their trucks and back out hunting when I pulled up with this big boy! Caught him napping in his bed opening day! One of the best hunts I have ever been on.
GO COUGS!!!!

DAMN MuleySniper, Gongrats to the hunter on that one. Looks like he mated with a moose with the paddle he developed on the left side. There are some real monsters hitting the dirt this year, that one however may take the cake!
-
Wow. very nice.
-
Is that the infamous "Moosey"? :dunno:
-
Muley
Did that deer have a chaw of red man in it's cheek?
That thing is freak :yike:
-
This is only my third year hunting and I am always up for a challenge. This year I told my husband I wanted to deer hunt on my own....spotting, shooting, gutting and packing...the whole nine yards. It has been a great learning experience for me as I have made some mistakes and learned both my strengths and weaknesses. Today it all came together when I shot at this buck from 550 yards. I had buck fever so bad I don't know how I hit him, but he went down! I don't think I could have fully appreciated this guy if I hadn't done it all myself (except the packing...I'm not as tough as I thought I was and had to call my husband to help me out!). Oh yeah...and he's bigger than any buck my husband has shot...tee hee! :IBCOOL:
-
Great bucks everyone

The first buck I had in range. 3rd day of the season in Idaho.

Great bucks on this thread. Here is last saturdays Blacktail from the Whatcom /Skagit area. Full rut and running with 2 does.
-
That is a beauty Blacktail right there!
-
Here are the deer from this year. Not big, but the freezer is full.
My wife's first deer. She woke me up from my mid morning nap on my rock so I could make sure it was legal. :chuckle: She was super excited (and shaky) after she made the shot.
-
My Moms first deer. She got a little emotional, in the good way, after she shot it, she honestly never thought she would get one. She always let us shoot first when we were younger, so it was great being able to pay her back some for the sacrifices she made for me over the years.
-
My buck. This is the order we killed them. I told them I would not shoot a buck untill they had their tags filled. They gutted, skinned, and packed them.....and they were still smiling even after the blisters and bruises. :)
-

 :IBCOOL: Without giving away where you got him, was it anywhere near where I told you about? Looks low there. Great job getting it done and glad you had some success. We had one in camp from opening morning, and chased a big one for a few days before he gave us the slip completely and time ran out. I'll see if I can get the video uploaded and posted. It was a monster! :yike:
-
13 year old Tommy got his deer right at dusk mid week. Shot with his Savage 243 at about 300 yards. His biggest deer yet. Way to go Tommy!
-
This is my son on the right, my cousin in the middle and my son's boss on the left. My son shot his deer opening weekend and the other two bucks were shot on the same day, on Wednesday all on the east side in the Alta unit. I had my sights set on a buck about 200 yards bedded down, let him get the slip because I couldn't see all the points. Still some time for me to stalk a blacktail.
-
2011 Roosevelt modern rifle.
-
My 2011 second day Whitetail in the north Okanogan's, filled my second deer tag later in the week. First buck in 32 years, guess that 30 years in the Navy got in the way a little, looking forward to many more enjoyable hunting trips in the future, starting with next weeks Elk Camp!!!
-
Island deer.
-
Win. 300 Mag, 250yd. shot just below the nose, OH YA put the smackdown on him.

Awesome bucks ya'll!!! Totally enjoy seeing all the pictures and big smiles, especially the kids. The highcountry bucks ROCK!!!
My first buck...From the recently added Wild Sky Wilderness Area North of Index, WA with .243 Ruger on Monday the 24th. I can't believe it really happened, so I had to post it. What an unbelievable experience.
That morning I hiked up the side of a steep Southeast facing timber slope about 800 feet. Then sat for 4 hours off a trail I had scouted several times over the summer, fully embedded in the habitat. At 11:44am, this buck walks out into view, with head down heading towards the game trail and me at about 50 yards. He turned onto the trail and then came down presenting a nice quartering away shot between a couple of trees. It was close range, 15 yards maybe. (after taking up archery, I finally learned how to be compulsive about de-scenting and washing my hunting clothes). I don't buy the expensive spray stuff, I make it with 2 cups distilled water, 2 cups hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda and add a little vanilla flavoring (2-3 capfuls) and spray everything I own or touch for hunting. Eat pear slices while I wait.

Great story and nice buck.

Congrats on a great blacktail...

Congrats on a very nice Buck BackCountry Girl!! There are a few nice bucks in that area and you did well harvesting a fine animal!!

Well this is the first year in about 30 I didn't purchase a tag and hunt deer, but a friend sent me this pic of a nice Blacky harvested in sno.county, thought it was worth sharing.
-
that looks like a nice old "forky"--great buck
-
2011 buck as he lay. Haven't gotten around to doing a thread on the hunt yet.
-
Congrats Pathfinder! That's an excellent animal!
-
Nice neck shot. They sure drop fast when you hit 'em there.
-
Thanks Y'all.
Holy cow, I just went back and read through this entire thread. Is it just me, or are mule deer starting to make a comeback in Washington State? I don't think I have ever seen this many big mulies posted on this site in a single season (and we haven't even hit the late tags yet).
:yike:
Good year....? :dunno:

Already posted once in Deer Hunting, but here's my 10 year old son's buck shot during modern with a muzzleloader. His 2nd and best buck so far.

I took a spike last year (my first year hunting) and this year I got this toad.
I hunted every evening but two since opening day. This guy came in Thursday night and I got one shot off at him with my 20 ga & missed. :( I was as determined as ever to get one if not him so I went back out last night but I took the 12 ga instead. At almost the exact same time as the night before he came back right through the same opening into my field. I let him line himself up with one of my shooting lanes, put the cross hairs on his side and let the 00 buck magnum load fly. He started to run so I stood up and took 2 more shots at him on the fly with out having my eye anywhere near the scope. He ran up an access road cut through a blackberry thicket and stopped just within my sight but out of range. He circled and stood there then dropped out of sight. My husband came and helped me down (he'd been duck hunting nearby but was out by my truck since shooting time was almost over) and we went to look for him.
Let this next part be a word of caution about giving your deer enough time to expire before tracking. We came up on him and he jumped up and ran, I literally chased him gun in hand. I came around a blind corner and found him laying in the middle of the trail, thinking he was surely dead this time I let out a holler and much to my surprise he jumped up and ran again. I would have taken another shot but the gun safety was on, so I thought. More chasing ensued (Please keep in mind that I hunt in a very high pressure, very small public area surrounded by private inaccessible property. He was headed towards being wasted if he had gotten another 75 yards) again I caught up to him laying down and leveled the gun at him, this time he jumped up and charged me. Gun still didn't fire so I swept the barrel at his antlers to ward him off. One good whack and he turned and ran again. I jacked the stuck shell out and loaded in another one and off I went. Caught up to him again and it was obvious he wasn't getting up again so I put that last round in him to end his suffering.
-
Awesome Toad of a deer. This was a high-pressure area that I helped her drag this behemoth from. Walking in I saw 3 rigs parked within 100yds of her "spot" and the area next door lets just say that it is a "secure" zone that would need a lot of red tape to get access to even for a recovery and would take days. She chased him down and finished him within yards of getting into this zone.
Awesome, thanks honey for letting me be a part of your adventure. You guys can be jealous of my wife, :hunter:
just don't let her chase you with a 12 Gauge! :mgun:

Not too proud, are you dad? :chuckle: :chuckle: There's a lot to be proud of there.
-
Cool story, Huntress, and a nice deer. I've lost a deer that would've died within 30 yards of where i shot him had I not bumped him too early. He ended up with an extra hole and someone else's tag on him. Lesson learned. WAIT! You did well.
-
Thanks Y'all.

Good year....? :dunno:
I work at a meat processing/slaughter plant and I agree. We are getting a ton of muleys in and most of them are HUGE bodied beasts and they all have a TON of fat on them too! The buck I shot this year we figured would have been 200 pounds field dressed. When I processed him I was surprised at how thick the fat layer really was! By far he is the tastiest deer I have ever eaten! It's nice to see them so healthy! Looking at everyone's bucks posted on the forum, it's not just in our area but all over the state! Let's hope it's not just a good year, I would love to see this every season! :)

That's true, but the blacktails haven't really had population problems the way the mulies have. I guess I am looking for reasons to be an optimist. Just seems like a lot of big mulies this year. When I was a kid I had a next door neighbor who was a mule deer guru. Killed a big buck every year from the year he returned from WWII until the year he suddenly died (1984 I think). I have often wondered what Paul would think about mule deer hunting in Washington if he had lived to see it decline the way it has (then again, compared to the 60's and 70's, he probably already considered it declining in the early 80's). Just crossing my fingers and hoping it's "coming back"...

C-money, I didn't know you're wife hunted also that's awesome! You guys tagged some nice bucks! Congratulations!
-
Thanks Dawn! We had a great year! I cant explain the great feeling of being with my wife and watching her harvest that buck. She made a great shot. Looks like you two girls are deadly! You nailed a wopper as well!
-
Thank you! It was really nice being able to hunt solo this year! I learned a lot and most importantly that I have a lot more to learn yet! The only thing that I really didn't like was that Doug was not there to share that moment with me! It was nice that he came up so soon when I called him but the fact that he missed everything but the pack out was a real bummer! i can't wait til next year when we hunt together again...it really is special to be able to celebrate together when the harvest happens!
-
One of the toughest seasons I have ever seen here on the wet side. I finally got a spike this morning. 80 yards out, delivered a 180 g. Winchester Silvertip out of my '06 through both shoulders.

My first 10 point. Not a monster, but he means more to me that I can explaine. 6 day solo hunt out of the Charles and Mary Eder unit by Oroville. Beautiful area. I spotted him on day 2, watched him try to chase off a coyote that was harrasing his does. That is until 6 other coyotes emerged from the sagebrush like a swarm of bees and chased him out of the area. Needless to say he came back. 220 yd shot, 3 mile hike from camp. Two long heavy packs out with the Eberlestock. Great time.

colorado 2011 mine and my cousins
-
well i guess its time to post mine. these are both from opening morning of modern season. we were walking up a draw at first light and my dad spots two bucks about thirty yards below us, he pulled up his rifle, i grabbed my binos and let him know that the bigger one, the back one, was legal, about that time they took off, when they got across the canyon we ranged them, settled and he took the shot, the smaller buck took off up the other side, and the one he shot ran down hill into the brush and didnt come out. we were sure he was hit so my dad decided to wait a while before going in after him, so me and my buddy mike went around and after the other buck, when we got over two ridges, we saw the buck going over the third, and decided to let him go and go back and help my dad, so we get back to the top of the draw where my dads buck was and wave for him to start moving in, and we would watch the back side in case the buck was still alive, well once my dad got part way down hill, he spotted his buck still alive, put one in his neck and that was the end of him. then as were sitting there with his buck we look up to to see a buck walking along the ridge above where my dad shot his from. we couldn't confirm a third point, but thought it was there. so as soon as the buck disappears over the ridge i take off, straight down the draw, straight up the other side, and slowly start working my way over the top where we saw the buck disappear. as soon as i peak over the ridge i spot the dear, bring up my binos, confirm the third point, but start to question if it is legal, about then the buck turns and starts bouncing downhill, this showed me the other side which was clearly over an inch, so i drop my binos, bring up my rifle just then he stops, 80 yards broadside, one shot in the spine he tumbled about 15 yards down the hill and was dead. not a bad opening morning, two bucks down by 8:30 and back to camp by 1:00.

This is my mom's first buck. It's not the biggest buck, but she will take it for her first. It was 3 years in the making before she was able to finally take her first shot at a deer and she made it count. Me and my mom were up in Vail during the late season and I was only to hunt with her on Saturday, so I wanted to make the most of my only day to hunt with her during late buck. We were seeing deer all morning long including a couple of really nice bucks that she was unable to get a shot at because there were 2 other hunters at the top of the clearcut that the bucks were in and we did not feel comfortable taking a shot with those other hunters around. So we carried on and about 1 hour later she spotted a doe in some christmas trees and we walked back down the road to get a better look when I spotted another doe, but no buck with them. We drove about another 100 yards up the road and decided to turn around and head to another area when she told me to stop and look those trees over again, so I did and before I could get out of the truck I had already spotted this buck walking out. We watched him for about ten minutes and had every shot possible including a shot at 10 feet as he tried to cross the road, but she wasn't sure about shooting a little buck. Finally, she was willing to take the shot so she told me to find him again and she would take the shot and about 30 seconds later he came up out of the bottom and started up the hill directly across from us and she took the shot and set him down in his tracks. She instantly looked back at me with the biggest smile on her face knowing that she had just accomplished what she had been trying to for 3 years. That was probably the most exciting moment of my hunting career because during the modern season last year she told me that she had never been with me when I killed anything and she went with me on opening day of archery elk and I shot a cow with her and now I got to be there for her first deer. What a season with my mom. We will be together next year for sure.

Alright, I just posted about my mom's first buck, but it won't let me attatch any pics. It keeps telling me that my file it to large, so what do I do in order to be able to post pics. I'm not very computer savy.

Posted this in the Blacktail thread but here he is, my 2011 modern blktail. field photos are from my cell phone and the ones after dark are camera pictures. My quickest hunt ever, 10 mins., but I've earned this short hunt. 3 X 3 blacktail, about 18 inches wide, my biggest blackie to date. Someone else missed him not 5 minutes before I saw him, he was sneeking through the scrapeline trail when I caught sight of him. Very little time to make a decision, 3 point and big and facing hard away. I aimed for a neck shot but missed by 2 inches and hit his hind quarter, he went right down at 50 yds. He may even have duel citizenship!! I missed a 3 point mulie in Carlton, but not near the deer this 3 point blacktail is. I had a European mount done.

Here is "Fred", my 2011 Northeast Washington Whitetail. Found an active rub line in a small hardwood stand in the middle of a small "green" field deep in some evergreens. Decided I better set up on that rub line for the evening hunt. Well a couple hours later after I get tucked into some cover here comes this bruiser feeding toward those rubs. About half way through the stand of trees he presented the perfect shot opportunity. Double lung, and off he went, about 70 yards and I hear him plie up. Instead of heading to the "crash" site I wait for the youngster to get there and give him a quick lesson on the importance of identifying, marking and following the blood trail, good stuff. At the end of the blood trail is "Fred", just where I heard him crashing on the brush pile. I was quite happy to "remember" all I needed for this experience, 30 years since my last deer. Had thirty years of Navy get in the way, now that I'm done with that I'm hoping for many more deer and elk for the freezer. Oh yea, I did fill that Elk tag this year also, named him "Barney"!!

Very nice.

Well here we go: my wife and I had a great Washington hunt this year. I harvested my buck (biggest I have shot to date) opening morning (first light) of modern firearm after a 3 mile hike into the high country. My wife should have got this deer but we had split up and she went with her dad. We boned and packed it out, got some sleep and went in before light the next day to try and get my wife her first deer. At exactly the same time of day as I got mine, we spotted this buck bedded down and snuck in on him. My wife took one shot at about 125 yards and made it count. Perfect shot and perfect buck (1st deer). Needless to say I was pumped! Great weekend to say the least!
-
Very nice!! Congrats to you and your wife. Thanks for posting the pics

never seen a euro velvet done so thought i would try it. i had to cut off the horns from the skull, boil the skull, I used "Antler in Velvet Tan" from Knoblochs. ordered two bottles online. it has worked great. i have had them done for almost 2 months now and they dont smell and arn't slipping. then reattach the horns with screws and epoxy.

I am pretty sure I Killed my cougar about 1000 yard below you across that flat. If that is the same area there is a radio tower above a rock face and we took a nice 3x4 just below that.

That is a GREAT buck!
I drew the late muzzy any buck tag last year and couldnt pass up this big 2 point, with a 26 1/2 inch spread its the largest bodied deer ever for me, three days later I filled my archery elk tag, was a good week.
-
My first black tail. taken on my own property! went early hunt to eastern washington with no luck came home waited for late buck, iknow he's little but this saying came to mind just before i decided to shoot( don't passup the 1st day you wouldn't pass up the last!
-

-
Very nice lokidog. So is the Sas buck a bow kill too?
I had the bow along but saw only this one nicer one at 100 yards, so, bang.... :chuckle:
-
this rifle is a 1964 30-30 I got it from my father who bought in California for $50.00 all of my brothers have shot deer with it now its my turn I reload but havn't learn how to reload 30-30 yet! I'm setting up a tree stand this year as there's a big boy out there. does these bucks return to there scarps year after year? there's several places I've seen where they have used smal alders. not sure where i show set up? I do know of several travel routes! have any suggestions for me?
-
Yes, they will likely use the same or close by trees from year to year. Best advise, get in your tree and stay there until he shows up. Good hunting.
-
thank you for the advise! this is all new to me. Now i need to find a place to Elk hunt!

This is my 2011 "Rut Buck". I had been practicing all fall at 300-400 yards. Ended up shooting him at 70 yards! First buck with a rifle as I am usually hunting with a bow.
-
What's the width on that I'd say thirty but you must be three feet back. :chuckle: nice buck! wa or out of state?
-
thats a damn nice buck !!!!
-
Come on I want to hear the storie!!!???
-
What state was that buck in Alaskan?
Very nice.
-
You're right on the money, he ended up being 30 inch's. Saw him up on a ridge from about a mile away. Decided we would take a chance on him, so we put an hour hike in from above. He had been chasing doe's all day. He was the best buck we had seen in the first two days of hunting.
Once we got above him, it was tough to find exactly where he was. He had gone into a small valey and bedded down with brush at his back. Once we had a general idea where he was, we closed in within 70 yards. we fianlly found him and he knew something was up. I had about a 6 inch window to shoot him. Took him from behind while bedded, right between the shoulder blades.
Cant wait to get him back from the TAXI!
-
Ide say he looks like a 48 inch buck with a pic cropped like that...
WA state buck?
-
Cropped? Havent edited it at all. It's a Utah buck that I shot during a hunt I won through "Huntin fool".
-
Excellent buck and storie. My cousin shot a 31.5 a few years ago I need to get one bigger. Lol. I would settle for that though.
-

I shot this buck at about 75 yards with my 444 Marlin. I was shooting handloads with 270 grain speer gold dot soft points. I jumped him out of his bed in a tall stand of mustard. He had 4 does and 3 small bucks with him. he is an odd ball. his right antler is deformed and comes out of his skull about 3/4 of an inch closer to his eye socket than his left.
-

2011 archery buck back from taxi

Here is my late dec blackie. Shot him at 35 yards with a complete pass thru. ran 80 and fell over. I crested a hill and we made eye contact for what seemed like a few mins. ( 30) secs :chuckle: I was slowly pulling a arrow out and setting myself up for a shot. He started to back peddle when I drew back. I had him at 35 chest on and waited waited and waited. after about 20 seconds he decided to turn and I let him have it. I was soaked from the swamp hence the non camo lol
-

Late picture for 2011 deer but I'm new to the forum. Killed this deer at 45 yards with my .50 cal Remington 700 inline, one shot dropped him in his tracks.

Mine from last year; 3 pt is from the Almota unit last weekend of modern firearms and the lil 4pt is from New Mexico unit 30.
-
My first buck. I got it on the second weekend of Modern. My Dad took me to a place where he used to hunt and they call it wink road because my uncle claims he had a buck wink at him on that road. Anyways we were in our normal hunting area and the rain was dumping. We got in my Dad's truck for lunch and drove to wink road. We got out and started walking. About 200 yards in I heard a thump and looked back and saw a big buck jump and take off through the woods. Both of us raised our rifles, but couldn't get off a shot. We then saw another deer about 400 yards away but with all the rain we couldn't tell if it was a buck or not. We then went to a trail that looped around to where the deer were. We then went in about 150 yards apart. My Dad was up the hill and I was down. I was a heavily wooded area and lots of brush. I then came to an opening and looked down and saw a 2x2 about 75 yards away and he was looking right at me. I tried to take my scope covers off as slow as possible but he turned and ran. I then turn and paralleled him on the hill. I ran for a little bit, but then I lost him and started walking and looking. I saw him again and he was looking back as if I followed on the same path. I then raised my rifle and scope was fogged. He was only about 50 yards away at this point. I opened my left eye and could see that he was just on the other side of a log. I could barely see the log with my scope fogged up so I put my cross hairs on the log and then raised them up just a little and fired one off. He went straight up and over backwards. I got him right in the neck and broke his neck. It was an awesome experience

2011 thanx giving buck. Missed a bigger one first day passed on a smaller 4 point n took him at 21 yards from my stand. Double lung hit with a heart slice. Went 30 yards crashed head on into a big ponderosa! 2nd archery last year at sportsman show in puyalup.
Didn't know this buck lived where I hunt. No pics from cameras so it was a pleasant surprise.
-
My 2011 Washington muzzy buck. Taped at 29 1/2" wide. I thought this buck was a 26-27" deer when I first saw him. After getting a tape on him, I learned I was a bit off. His ears are just over 25". Not bad for a WA deer.

That's a stud mulie lablover. You must have underestimated his width because of his body size. He's a beast...
That's a great whitey elkh8me! Rangers Lead the Way brother! 8)

I know it's a bit late, but I just joined the forum today. Here's my 2011 Ellensburg buck. Bagged three deer in my first three years of hunting, then had a 7-year dry spell before I bagged this guy. I'm still smiling about it two years later. Not sure if my attachment will show up or not.
