So i just got my first bobcat yesterday while elk hunting with my muzzleloader. I would love to get this lifesize mount but might not be able to afford it. I might have to go with a rug. I would like to go with one of the sponsered taxidermist on here.
Can you guys please post some bobcat work that you have done? Either rug/shoulder/lifesize.
Doesnt matter. lets see them. If you want to include your going rates that would be great as well.
Thank you.
-
you should get 509er to post a picture of his bobcat rug. Its sweeeet!!!!!

The100Road,
If you would like to have a Life Size done and think you can't afford it there are some things to think about.
Most taxidermists have a 1 year turn around. So you have some time to save up the $$. There are some taxidermists that will let you make payments. Also there are taxidermists that will buy Capes from you if you harvest a decent buck or bull. You can use that as shop credit toward your mount.
As far as price goes. Life Size Bobcats start at $675. Rugs are $525.
I'd post some photos but my laptop that has them on it is in the shop. The hard Drive went out in it. :bash:
-
Here's some of my work, I'll give you a sweet deal since your a member. Keep in mind these took me a long time to do.
Lets say $450 to get started..

Yeah, I have become a huge fan of charlies and will for sure be taking future deer and elk to him. I havent been able to check my email for his pricing yet. I believe you get what you pay for im just not sure I can afford as great as work as his.
-
Cats are VERY hard to make look good. You really need to have some skills.
I'm going to hurt some feelings, but there is nobody on this site that I'd pay to do a cat for me.
A deer or elk, yes,a cat no way.

Who would you have do your cat?
-
I agree with Rick...I had a cat done by a very accomplished taxi out of North Bend and the face is OK...Wildlife artist studio out of Michigan has some great examples but I don't think they take work on anymore. I just shot another and am getting it done as well and honestly I'm hoping for the best. I will not be using the NB taxi but one out of Ravensdale. This is a lot bigger cat than my other and its a westside cat so that's why I'm doing it.
How big of cat and how is the hide?
-
the100Road, posting a shot of a bobcat rug (same one as the website page) nice quality hide on this younger cat. Open mouth rug is $525 with one year turn normally. FYI, everyone has different preferences to nose color, this customer wanted his a little on the lighter side, I always try to ask to make sure. thanks, Duane
thanks for the props dscubame  very appreciated. Duane

No feelings hurt here  Who would you use?? Id hope it would be Soucey or someone of world champion caliber and pay the 1800 for a bobcat mount . Cats are by far the hardest to get right.

Nice Job on that Rug Duane !!

Nice Job on that Rug Duane !!
Thanks man, always working on getting better, like yourself.

not to step on any toes but the next cat i get will be going to bucklucky i promise you that, its damn near impossible to find someone to get the head right on a cat and from what i ahve seen, jack page who owns mineral taxidermist and bucklucky are the only ones who have GOT IT. and page only does heads anymore so that leaves bucklucky in my book.. :twocents:
-
Here is my rug. I wanted to lifesize as it was a big cat, but I shot it in the face/throat. The Taxi did a good job of saving it.
-
How could you not want Soucy to work on your cat?

The guy does incredible work, and the $6000+ price tag for a Cougar mount reflects that.
Even though its dead, this Cougar could just as easily be alive.
-
dude that cougar looks great, add one more to the list of who has got it right :twocents:
-
Thats what Im talking about  Soucey is my idol , hands down about the best out there and obviousely the price reflects world champion quality work!!

Phil doesn't need to be added to the list. People need to be listed under him. :twocents:

I think several of the taxis on here could handle a cat just fine. This cat was finished by a Huntwa member, for a good price too!

[/quote well I can tell ya this one looks pretty dang good .....nice work ...and cats are really dang tough to do ....

That picture proves my point. I wouldn't be happy at all with that finished product. But then,I'm not one for having an animal mounted just to say I have one mounted. If I'm paying for a mount it better turn out mighty impressive.
If you like what you paid for, thats all that matters though.

Can't agree more! You need to be happy with what you get!

I am so flusterd. I really want to go full mount rather then rug. I just keep getting prices of $500-$600 but they dont have example pictures to show me. Its hard to just hand over $600 without knowing what youre gonna get. Then theres $1000 quotes that have pictures and look amazing but then again it $1000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I would have no problem spending this on an elk. But not so sure about a bobcat.
-
Don't do it without examples...take your time! :twocents:
-
1000 $ is alot of money thats for sure but you will always have that bobcat, to me a bobcat is just as worthy as a elk or deer, i look at it this way if you can afford it then do it you will be happy you did when you get it back and maybe the taxi that you use will take payments so your not handn over that big chunk of money all at once, i can tell you this they make a cool mount especially when they are done right, ya just want to keep it out of reach of little kids cause they sure like to mess with a big kitty cat, my cousin took a plastic saw to the nose of one my dad had done years ago when we were little, yeah it didnt work out so good for my cousin :chuckle: :yike:
-
Okay, I have made my decision and i'm gonna get it done right. BUCKLUCKY is the man. Im going with the full wall mount of the cat descending on a rock ledge. Its my first bobcat and i dont want to be disapointed every time i look up at it. I am super excited to have bucklucky do the work. I am getting it sealed on Saturday and then hopefully down to Charlies i will go.
:IBCOOL:
-
excellent to hear you made the right decision .... cant wait to see the finished product, and no worries from what i have seen of buckluckys cats you wont be disapointed
-
Jeez, I've been waiting for years for Chuck to do bobcats for me....... :chuckle: :chuckle: Good taxi choice. ;)

Whenever your ready to get those hides to me man :chuckle:
-
Man that one post is a reason why I am always afraid to shoot a cat! Cats are very hard to mount 90% of the taxi's that I have seen try to mount a cat "mind you that do a good job on deer and elk" look like crap!
-
This one cost me $ 80. The taxidermist was just learning. He's in Colville.
He's in business now and is cheaper than anubody.
-
I killed this one three years ago I think? Anyway, Charlie did it for me. I supplied the juniper and finished the base. I get tons of compliments. Kind of a crappy pic, I'm sure Charlie has some better close ups. I killed this other cat last year. Still in the freezer. I need to do something with it, probably just have it tubed unless I get a wild hair and want a rug. It'll go to Charlie too.

So having shot a bobcat recently I am curious, what makes cats so much harder to mount then other animals? From the taxidermists point of view......
I'm not a taxidermist, but IMO its ALL about the face. You don't get the face right, the rest of the cat can be world class, and it'll still look goofy.
I've seen some terrible bears as well.
-
looks like someone is missing their housecat MuleySniper. :chuckle: seriously though it looks awesome, sure wish I didn't shoot mine in the face. :bash:

That Fox Pro is too deadly... Next time shoot it before calling it in to less than 5'. You're gonna get attacked! :chuckle:
We'll be dusting off the .204's here soon enough ;) We need to plan a multi day marathon predator extermination this winter :chuckle:
-
I understand that the face is the difficult part of the mount, but what makes it any different then another game animal mount? Is it because of the amount of hair and the length of it makes attaching the hide to the form more complex? I dont know if you have to add material to the form to get the hide to fill out against the form so the fur will be in a natural laying position. I have seen some terrible cat mounts before but never understood what made the face so difficult. Just curious.
I think if a taxidermist can't mount a Bobcat right, he's only after the money or shouldn't be in business. Anybody can see a real difference. Even my wife said it's Fugly !
-
I recommend Keepin It Real taxidermy out of Cle Elum. I shot the hell out of mine with a 300 mag and he did a very good job fixing it for me. He was the cheapest in the area too. PM me for details.
-
Well Charlie, I almost had to cancel my bobcat and go with an elk instead. Missed a big 5x6 bull last night at 50yards. I can hit a dang bobcat but not a freaking elk! :bash:

I am not a taxidermist either, but agree it is all about the face, i had 2 bobcats done by the same taxi at the same time, one a rug with open mouth and it looks really good, the other i had him do a pedestal half body mount, that one looks bad, face is not correct and the eyes, well lets just say he rides the short bus.
Both cats were done at the same time, and how he got one correct and the other wrong i don't know, but he will not do anymore for me. I've passed taking 3 other cats since but seeing charlies work i wont pass anymore and i will take them to him..

Bummer man, that sucks . Must have been elk feever :chuckle:
I can say that not all bobcat forms are created equal . From my experiance there are only a few sculpters I will use any more for the heads. I had a couple bobcats I wasnt real pleased with and have leaned my lesson :chuckle: They turned out OK but not as good as I would like. I got a couple I will be working on shortly that are on forms I like to use. Both are descending cats. I'll post pictures as I start them . One is going to get cut into peices becasue it is a pretty smallish cat and the forms only get so close for size.
-
So here is a picture of the cat. Im not to sure about the size. It kinda looks like a smaller one to me. Seems smaller then the big eastern male my dad got a few years ago.

Looks like a pretty average sized cat, 14ish ??
