Growing up in near the swamps of Louisiana, my uncles and friends always had these for heading in the swallow water for fishing, hunting and trapping. So last winter I decided to build one. I had intended to use it to retrieve ducks on small ponds and stuff. However due to the ship's schedule I didn't have a chance to get it out in the for hunting.
It's 14" long, 33" wide, probably weighs 50 pounds and cost 150.00 to make..
I'm going to try and get out this year for some duck hunting just need to find a spot to use it.. Any suggestions?
Thanks Pete

You can make them bigger, but this one is somewhat easy to carry by one person. I"m only 5'9" and 180 lbs.

I'm sorry, really, I just couldn't help myself !! I know I need therapy but I just haven't figured out what kind yet !! :bash:
It is a cool boat, is there a kit or something you buy to put it together, may be a cool project for my nephew and I !!
Nice work !!

Yeah, yeah. I even thought about it this morning when I was typing..So it's a short wide boat...

I see you are from Port Orchard. I dont know how far the trip is but that canoe would be great out in the waste ways off of I-90 or Dodson in the Desert Unit. I dont duck hunt but there is a mess of them out there.

Yeah I thought about heading out there. but I'll keep it in mind.. Thanks

nice lookin boat. I could use one of those in my honey hole
-
do they need to be 14ft long to support load or can they be substantially shorter. or is it a ratio of width to leingth. good lookin boat
-
Thanks,
I have seen them as a one seat boat. probably 10 foot or so. there are two seats in this one. the 14' rides just like a canoe, kind of twitchy in the water until you get use to it.
do a google search for Louisiana Pirogue... There are a few companies out there that make them with pictures and sizes..
I have plans I could send to you for a 14' if anybody is interested...
