i only need to see 1 deer..haha . we are going to hike in at a trailhead and start learning some areas. i dont really care about the deer hunting, its just a excuse to get into the area some and get ready for my elk hunt there in the next few years. i dont want to be that guy who draws a primo tag then join the forum and ask where to hunt elk in the blues :bash: with my first post.

Bring some duck tape and mole skin. :chuckle:
-
haha sounds perfect
-
That country is perfect for you man, have fun in there.

thanks charlie

I have been there on spring bear hunts and saw literally hundreds of deer. But they were still yarded up. Take those deer and distribute them across that massive country and we did not think that it was a deer destination. Add to that the wolves and ??? But I agree that if you can find them it would likely be a dandy.
And the others are right that country is wicked steep.

I have spent a lot of time in the area and never did see a big buck. There are not a whole lot of deer, but you will not see a whole lot of orange in there either, so that will be nice. I should mention though, I have found a couple sheds in the area that anybody here would consider big, so they are there. You have a better chance of seeing a cougar, bear, or wolf than a big buck, so take you predator tags with you. It is some of the neatest area I have ever been in.
-
sounds great to me. i have been known to find a shed or two.
-
No deer. Sounds like a perfect spot for rifle deer. :dunno:
-
I keep hearing how steep it is on here. Is it as steep as the Pasayten?
-
Id say steeper, but not as tall. Pick the wrong way up a drainage and you could be in for it. I did that once. What could have taken 30 minutes took 4 hours.. still did not see a bear...

That is exactly how I would explain it. Very steep but lots of drainages are close together and not real tall. Super Steep and rugged though.

sounds perfect, right blind pig? cant wait
-
:chuckle: :chuckle: Might run into a wolf or two?
-
Moe than likely you will find cows and calves that have been killed by wolves. I found 2 in mid september. Hopefully there is snow so you can see just how many wolves or should I say coyotes are in the area now :bash:
-
this trip is sounding better every day :bash: i cant wait. i guess i am just a glutton for punishment :chuckle:

Water availability is an issue in some areas. Deer are few and far between but it's a fun place. Good luck and have fun!
-
The entire area up there is steep country, have fun and take lots of pics.

got back yesterday. we didnt see any legal bucks but, the first thing i saw was a pretty good(290-300)6x6 bull, then ryan spotted a monster bull. we called him the 380 bull, but who knows until you measure him.i think anyone whose name isnt agnew would have shot him. the bulls were still bugling their guts out. i cant believe how late they were rutting. disappointed in the deer hunt, but hard to complain about seeing good or great bulls daily. saw some guides checking out that area, so if a whopper comes out of the wenaha i think this bull had enough character i could identify it.

also ran into my cousins who are from south of olympia over in the blues. none of us knew the others were going to be there. none of us had been right in that area. weird for sure
