I was curious as to what you bird dog guys have to say about getting a dog trained by. a trainer. have a seven month old yellow lab and was looking to maybe get her trained far basic hunting and obedience. if I did who would be a good recommendation around snohomish county and is it worth the money. thanks for.the input.

I think it depends on what you expect from your dog as far as hunting goes. I don't think you can go wrong getting her professionally trained. They know what they are doing and have the time needed each day to make the training worth while. I would recommend Conway Kennels up in Stanwood. It is my uncle's place and they do a great job with their dogs. My cousin Bucko trained my dog and he cares for them as if they are his own. You won't be disappointed. :tup:

Conway was actually what I was leaning towards. I'm not looking fir a field trial dog just an all around good hunting dog. but thanks for the.advice. how.long is your dog usually gone for?

Usually about 6-8 weeks but it depends on the dog. This should give you more info.

Ill be looking for a trainer for my brittany in about 8 months too.. 11 week old Brittany, was looking at them too but contact info didnt work. Wanted to know how much it would cost

If your looking into Brittany trainers, send me a PM. My dad was in the same boat as you last year. Between me, my dad, and my brother, all 4 of our brits have been sent to various Pro trainers with different results. There is some very good, and very bad info out there when it comes to pointing dog trainers.

I think there are 2 main routs to go. 1 send your dog away for 3 months +-, or Work your dog with a trainer. I trained my first dog, but i was single and no kid. I could not seperate my 2nd dog from my little girl to train, so I sent him off to Long Hollow Retievers in Ellensburg. Sendin g your dog out isn't cheep. I think you will run about 700-1500 a month depending where you go. If you can keep your dog and spend the time training then a couple of good books and or and experienced trainer Can help you alot. I had it explained to me that training your own dog is .5 dog learning & .5 you learning how to train. :twocents: I think that if you can dedicate the regualar time to train then join a group like Happy Gilmore belongs to, i think its Rainer retrievers... You can then find other people to train/learn with. Hope that helps.

That's where I got my pup from is longhollow. she's already shown lots of potential and I don't have the time I thought I would. think I'm just gonna.see what she can do for a month and if need be ill send her out. thanks for your advice every one.

I worked with a trainer and trained my lab. It has made our bond that much stronger. He is not a trained hunting dog, he is my hunting buddy and will any thing to make me happy. He is a hunting machine.
