So my daughter turned 16 a couple of months ago and for her 16th birthday present (among other things), I bought a "well worn" 30.06 from an old friend that moved to Nevada and was "cleaning out the garage" to reduce UHAUL crap. I gave him a $100 bill for it and took it home with a plan. I tore the whole gun down, sanded the beat up old stock, had it looked at by a gunsmith to get an "all clear" and "bah da bing"! After passing hunters safety course, giving her the rifle, sighting it in to zero at 100, you have the cutest damn hunter you ever did see! Yes, she is deer and elk hunting with her brother and I this year. Priceless time with your 16 year old daughter and your 17 year old son for $100 bill? Sounds like a worthy investment to me. Would she be as excited if it were just an "old, beat up 30.06 that Dad bought from a friend, probably not (at least I like to think so). Thought I'd share. Keep 'em close guys! They grow up WAYYYYYY to fast!

Dad, 3 Nails is absolutely right. I have 5 daughters. the oldest just turned 50, the other four are all in various stages of their forty's. Took a lot of pictures of fishing, camping and hunting. Today I look at those pictures and wonder what happened. It goes at mach speed. Every day give them a hug, a BIG hug.

Nice. Arming your cute young daughter with a high powered rifle should help fend off any dosage bedwetter boyfriends too. Good plan.

Couldn't agree more, the last four years hunting with my daughter have been a great time in life. I love it when she comes home from school upset at some boy and says "Can we go shoot something?"

Well played. The gun came out looking great. I have two daughters as well. Older started hunting last year (11). Younger loves to go out with me as well (8). Time and effort put into your kids always pays exponential dividends. You are indeed blessed. Good luck to your daughter this year.

Did the 1 time deferral for my daughter this year. We'll see how she does, and if she wants to stick with it during modern deer. ;)
She sure likes to put rounds down range though. :)
No way I am painting her Encore pink. :P

Hey, thanks for all the kind words Gang. I am pretty proud of her. She's been tournament bass fishing with me and her older brother since she was like 4 or 5. Her big fish was 4 lb 5 ozs, I think. Her first day 5 fish limit was over 15 lbs! Once again Gang, KEEP 'EM CLOSE!!!!!!!!!!

this is in my mind 1 of the best threads on here. i was fortunate to be with 1 of my daughters when she killed her first wt this year my 3 oldest daughters will be hunting 2 for deer and 1 for elk. as parents we r truly blessed to be able to share what we love with who we love and seeing the kids walking on air after a successful hunt it just doesn't get any better

Freaking awsome!!!!!! I have 2 daughters that will hopefully be hunting with me when they grow up!!! Memories last a lifetime and hope I get to share a few with them as they grow up!!!

It is good to see all the daughters going out hunting. It is also good to see the daughters know how to use a gun..... that means I am less likely to have to remind my teenage son that most cute girls have a dad who owns a shotgun!

I wont lie. It is far more enjoyable to go out with the kids, see an animal and set one of the kids up for the shot or finding a big bass on a bed and having one of the kids come up to the front of the boat to fish for it and catch it. We, as parents, are planting the seed for them to feel "accomplishment" from something other than X-Box, how many texts they can complete in a month or what they look like 10 minutes before their first day of school.
Being a divorced Dad, it was tough on all of us but "keeping them close" through memorable weekends in the boat or the woods, knowing they will remember those times (not the "not so good times") gives me satisfaction. Setting time aside, just for them, is more the reason, not killing a deer or catching a fish. I don't want to preach but I will say, my "little boy" turns 18 tomorrow and he is working toward being a game and fish enforcement officer. Let's see, 18, without a ticket, accident, no trouble with the law, a fanatic of fishing and hunting, yes, I'll take full credit for that, and I only had the weekends to do it!!!!!!!!!! In other words, include them and you might just be surprised at just how much of an impact you'll actually make! Again, thanks for all the wonderful pics, comments and stories. It great to know I'm not alone in this crazy world!!!!

That is the coolest thing :salute: I had a old savage 06 that I customized the stock on for my sons 15th birthday. He will be 17 this Nov. and he isn't really interested in hunting right now, maybe he needs to meet some of these young ladies :chuckle: That seems to be his motivation at the moment anyway. I will try and post a picture of his (right side) and my 06 that was my cover so he wouldn't get suspicious. We both have the same initials so hes already planning on having mine too. :chuckle: Told him he has to wait til I'm done with it. :tup: Great Job Dads!

My oldest, son shoots and flings (14). My youngest daughter flings (8), but my middle daughter only wants to read. Nothing wrong with that, just can't get her into guns or bows. I took 14 kids to the gun range for a night of skeet. We shot off 700 rounds in just under 3 hrs. We had a blast and all of the kids want to go again. They ranged from 10 to 18. My middle daughter was using a Benelli 20 auto, but it was her first time and she released the stock from her shoulder and rocked her jaw on the gun when it fired. I think she is just scared. Her friend wants her to shoot, so maybe I still have a chance.

Your daughters friends will have a much better chance of convincing her to do this again than you will. Try setting it up again, including all her friends, and I'll bet you a box of your favorite ammo, she'll go again. One thing I've learned, having an 18 year old son and a 16 year old daughter, friends and socializing will generate much more motivation than going out with Dad and "breaking their jaw". I have included their friends on fishing trips out on the boat and the latest girlfriend of my son, caught her first fish EVER (and yes, it was a bass)! Amazing how important a role we actually play in those years but you'll have to "work it".

Amen Outdoor Dad, I try to take the boy shooting as much as possible, with him turning 17 this year I only have so much time left to make the impression and try to influence him. I respect and say "Job well done!" to all you parents who are taking a active role in instilling a love for the outdoors and that lifestyle in your kids and also as been my experience, in their friends as well. Great job, I just love this thread.

Alright, my turn to brag abit. This is my daughter shooting the .260 when she was 11 years old. She wants to start hunting with it next year, couldnt be happier with that! Keep em close guys. And yes, those are groups that i was keeping track of for her on the blank target on the bench :tup: Not bad for a girl.
