This will be my first trip to the central part of Montana and I was wondering if anyone has been over to the Little Belt mountains in Montana. I am headed there with a deer and elk tag next week. I was wondering if anyone could show me any game they had taken over there and what their overall opinion of the area is. We have a few areas in the Little Belts that we are planning to hunt and if nothing pans out there we might head to some private land that we know of. Thanks for any pics and opinions of the area.

Just an FYI, the opener was September 3rd. If you are refering to the general hunt, rather than head over next week you might want to wait until the following week since that season doesn't start until the 22nd. ;)

Thanks for the fyi fool.
I hunted the archery opener in a different area.
I am headed over for the rifle opener next week to do some scouting before the actual opening date for rifle season. Also besides getting there before the season starts I have already sighted my rifle in....crazy idea huh
And keep your foolish comments next timel. :chuckle:

Hey Slayer,
I will be in the Lewis and Clark Nat forest camped on my buddies property just south of it. The main gmu we will hit is probably going to be 454.
Are you just elk hunting then? How are the numbers out there for elk?
It was a tough hunt for us during early season up in the NW corner of the state. Lots of wolves.
Thanks for the info.

Ive been hunting the southern little belts I think its unit 540. I only know of one spot that has elk and it borders private land that an outfitter leases. Apparently before the season starts the outfitter tries to push the elk off onto the land and he does a dam good job at it considering I only saw 2 elk this season on the public side and 50 on the private side. But thats the only spot ive tried up there so far.
From what I hear over all the belts have good numbers of elk and lots of access. There will be a good amount of pressure up there during rifle considering its close to nearly all of the major cities in MT and has lots of roads. Also from what I hear there is a decent amount of gated roads and thats where your best shot will be at, for elk any how. And yes ill just be elk hunting the deer huntings too good around billings to travel up there.
Feel free to p.m. me when you get up there if you wanna meet up and see if we can put some elk on the ground
