Uhmmmm- I'm in a 4pt GMU so a no brainer for me. But I would love for a tender spike to be in the freezer

I hunt the western part of the state and I will take the first buck 2 point or better I can get.  But during extended buck if there is a spike with a good amount of meat on him I might take him.

Not going to pass up a deer i'd shoot the last hour in the first hour.  All about the meat, and i can save some gas, and get ready for the ELK!!! :chuckle:

Ok I guess this is more for the WET side since the East Side is 3 points or better  ;)

I post this question as I have a great Piece of Land I got access to hunt this year . I know it holds plenty of animals but I am not sure what I would do in this case .  I am not a trophy hunter so , I am pretty sure I am putting the hammer down

I'm not going to shoot a spike on the first day and end my season. I'll take a spike at the end of the day on November 20th, maybe. Depends on my confidence level. If I've been seeing a lot of sign and/or a lot of bucks, I still might hold out to the very end for a nice 4x4 blacktail. I've got elk meat in the freezer so I don't have much desire to shoot something just for the meat.

That spike is getting shot. I couldn't care less about antlers.

It's not so much the antlers I care about, it's more that I want a mature, big-bodied buck that's been around a while. Plus I just want to spend some time in the woods hunting. I've spent the last 8 months scouting. To end it on the first day on a year old buck just seems like a terrible waste. I want to be out there when there's a chance of seeing rutting activity and big bucks running around during daylight hours, that you would never see any other time of the year. Not to mention, a 4 year old buck will have a heck of a lot more meat on him than a 1 year old buck.

Careful with this one!  I made a similar comment on a post a couple months ago and the internet cops came in with guns drawn!   :chuckle:

Yes i know...my tag is for my animal and vise versa.  And i only get one...It was a joke!  :chuckle:

Good luck everyone.  I'm  heading out right now and I won't be shooting any spikes or 2-points.  Even 3 points are likely safe from me today.............

I love to hunt.  Getting something is not that big of a deal to me anymore.  If i could hunt everyday of the season and kill a buck on the last day, it would be a perfect season for me.

I would have passed it knowing I'm going to Carlton next weekend but my daughter might not have this morning.  It is hard to say cause sometimes they say something about what they'd do and then change their mind half way through the hunt.

Kinda ironic that I start this topic and have this pretty much happen to me this morning 20 minutes into my hunt .

I voted that I would pull the trigger , I guess i was wrong as I let it walk . Very Tempting though.

I hunt 3point or better in the early season, but I hunt either sex in the late and the first legal deer I see go's right into the freezer.
