Title: Open seat thread (waterfowl)
Post by: D-Rock425 on October 16, 2011, 05:58:47 AM
I was thinking this morning as I sit in this big duck blind by myself that we should have an open seat tread here in the waterfowl section.  I have seen a few post of guys looking for partners so I thought we could keep it all under 1 thread.  Maybe make this a sticky tread to keep in on the top of the page. :dunno:

Ill start things off.  I'm at the headquarters site in skagit right now and I have an empty seat next to me.  If you can make it in an hour or so you're more than welcome.  Just shoot me a pm.  I got decs and everything set up.   All you need is waders, shells and probably a gun.

Well, I have access to the boat just need a rig to pull it. I am off on Wednesday and in Otis Orchards if there is anyone that has a tow rig and more experience than me, preferably with a dog. Like I said before I am green in the bird hunting ways.

As long as you grovel enough and beg their forgiveness all should be OK.  Nah, that's part of duck hunting.  Some days it's just hunting and very little harvesting.  I'm sure the BS in the blind made it a worthwhile trip.   ;)

Just wondering if anyone around Snohomish is willing to help me get back into killing some birds. I grew up in Duvall and hunted all my buddies farms growing up, but don't have all the connections like i used to now that I live in Snohomish.

If anyone is interested I usually have an open seat when I duck hunt.  I live in the Tri Cities and drive up to an hour or two to hunt.  I have quality decoys, and an 18 foot sled.  Shoot me a message if you want to go shoot some birds.

I live in Tacoma and would be willing to travel an hour or so if someone has an open seat on some big water.  This cold snap has the small lake I hunt frozen over. I have a few dozen dekes and can call very well if it helps.  I'm self-employed and have a flexible schedule too!  Would love to try a goose hunt too if that's still a possibility.  Will share expenses of course.

Hi everyone! Just got into waterfowl hunting this year and I'm hooked! Wanting to make the most of the license/permit, I'm trying to go hunt as often as I can! I live in Lakewood, just south of Tacoma, but driving to meet someone is no problem. I have waders and an old side-by-side, but no decoys/calls/ect. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Since the season is drawing to a close, I'm hoping to find people willing to let me tag along with them. I've only been out once and would hate to have spent the money on licenses and only get to go out once. If you're within an hour and a half or so of the Tacoma area and wouldn't mind a partner let me know! Just got a new barrel for my Mossberg and I'm excited to get some use out of it!  :IBCOOL:

That would be very cool. I just bought my first shotgun courtesy of Carpsniper. Gonna go take a beginner trap shooting class to see if I can learn to hit a flying target. I would love a chance to try my hand at bird hunting though. :)

Haven't seen many ducks down on the delta, just a few locals in some holding water. Not many to be had right now! I know how others think we don't need to wait for the migration but on the south end we wait for the rain/snow and hard cold from up north to make this happen down here. Need to find new areas with more marshy low land and ponds!

Anyone hunt around Enumclaw? I'm having problems getting motivated to hunt ducks. I'd love to tag along with someone.

I can call, have decoys. No dog, but i'm tall with warm waders lol.

Saltwater,

Shooting you a pm now. I am working swing shift 12-9 pm all week so i'm itching to get out for a morning hunt. If your boat has a jet pump we could get in some pretty awesome places I know of.

And D-Rock, I offered to hunt with you Saturday in that thread you started but i guess i'm not cool enough for ya. Even after helping you pack your bear out.  :dunno:

Hi everyone! I'm trying to get started early this season so I get to go out more than twice! I'd LOVE to tag along with ducks/geese with someone. No dog or decoys, but I have waders and my own shotgun. I'm not the best, but I do have a call I've learned how to quack and hail on decently well. I'm still pretty new at this but I nailed the green winged teal that showed itself last year and I'm hooked! Hope to hear from someone soon!

Request:  I want to go duck hunting a couple of times this year.  I want to go with some one that has the decoys, can call and knows how to do it.

I'm willing to: trade time with me and my upland dog.

I'm located at snoqualmie pass and can go in either direction.

No my dog will not pick up waterfowl, or swim.......for anything other than a green tennis ball.  But he hunts well in the field.

I have time this week and next.  Help a brother out.

hey, guys
I'm going out this sunday morning for waterfowl and all my other buddies canceled on me. I'm a former Marine and i live in Gig Harbor just looking for someone to hang with and shoot at some ducks, I've been out by Bremerton and down by Rochester this season and previous seasons, but i wouldn't mind exploring a new hole or two. Any one want to tag along or have a open seat?

I've got a blind reserved on base up here at NAS Whidbey Island both Saturday and Sunday and currently have an open seat both days (subject to change).

Unfortunately, LST is on its way to high tide, so you'll need a float tube or a layout/sneak boat of some type to get through the morning.  In the afternoon, I have a blind that is actually where its supposed to be and is usable, so no boats would be needed.  Depending on how many people are hunting the base the birds may or may not move very well, but if nobody is out there, we'd be free to move around.

PM me for details.

UPDATE:  SEATS ARE FULL!!  LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING NEW FACES!

This thread's a great idea! I met one of my best friend's 5 or more years ago on this site! He has since moved to VA and my other good friend/duck hunting partner is training to be a police officer. I'm a hardcore waterfowl hunter. I sometimes leave my house at 1 a.m. and have spent many sleepless nights to ensure I get my duck hunting spot! I'm looking for people that are as hardcore as myself and are willing to go a 24 hr period without sleep if necessary...Ha! that's sorta a joke but I've don't it before and I'd do it again! I live in Liberty Lake, WA. I travel to the Tri-Cities often. My work schedule is flexible and I don't hunt weekends! Too many people. I have some good spots all over WA state and decoys, but I sold my duck boat and I had to put my best friend down after 13 seasons last year. The places I hunt are wader accessible, but if someone has a boat we could go to my bigger water hot spots. I'm looking for a week day hunter who's as crazy about those greenheaded b@st@rds as myself!

Even an upland hunt would be cool. My dad and dog would come. I would bring 4 geese and 2 dozen ducks. I would take you on a hunt in Snohomish or Skagit County if you were over here

I am available most Saturdays/Sundays only as I work Monday-Friday and have used all my vacation time. I have no boat, blind, dog, or decoys. I just got my first duck call and am learning to use it. I do have my own shotgun/shells and camo, and will chip in for gas or any other supplies if needed.

hey...gasman and I are headed out this saturday SOMEWHERE...lol.  :dunno:   was wondering if any other members were going out and wanted to get together and smack some birds.  was thinking rochester, but haven't gotten down that way yet.  we just like to get out, meet other members/new people, and have a good time hunting.  we have all our own gear, sneak boats, dog...just wondering if anyone wanted to hook up.

and no, we're not looking for your "honey holes" or are gonna "snake in behind you and hunt your spot"...lol.  we have our own..   :IBCOOL:  we have been on a few hunts with other members this year already...

drop me a PM if interested.

I am headed out in the morning with 1 open seat.  Hunting will take place just North of Bellingham.  I have plenty of decoys.  All you would need is a gun, shells, and your person.

Does anyone have an open seat this weekend? I'd love to get out for the last weekend! I've got waders, shotgun, ammo, a dozen mallard dekes, and a jerk cord. Doesn't matter where... I just want to get out again!

I just wanted to give a HUGE thank you to all the amazing people I've met through this thread. I'm so happy to have been able to share a day (or more) out on the marsh with each of you! No birds, lots of birds, and anything in between, I had an absolutely amazing season thanks to you generous folks! Thank you so much! Can't wait to get out and hunt with you again!

Another idea to add to this might be a "trade a hunt" section.
I would trade an early field goose hunt over here (west of Spokane) for a late season duck hunt over there (west side) next season.
I have hunted the west side once since I was 17 yrs old and lived over there.
Just food for thought.  :twocents:

Gentlemen, I've been in the AF for 20 yrs and once again , Uncle Sam has made me move.  I just moved from Oklahoma. I have a dozen GWT and 2 dozen Mallard dekes.  I'm looking for a group to join.  I have no idea where to hunt here and could use any advice. For now, due to me having 2 young kids, I would like to keep it to the west side of the mountains.  I look forward to hearing from ya!

I am still in the AF. I'm going to serve to 24 yrs and then retire, so we took this assignment.  I was at Altus AFB, OK for the last 4 years.  I wouldn't say that I'm an Okie, but the people there were awesome....outside of Altus.  I'm originally from SW Ohio.

Well thanks for your service!!!!  I live in Woodinville and hunt eastern Washington. Mostly the river and potholes area. I have a boat and a couple thick headed labs to help out. Give me a shout if you would like to try the east side sometime

Thanks Dkhtr.  How far do you drive to hunt?  When you go, do you stay somewhere over there, or is it usually a day trip?  I'm down for the day trip, and could possibly do a weekend trip, but I have to be careful.  My wife understands that hunting season means I am gone a lot, but we have 2 young kids (8 mos and 3.5 yrs old), and I always feel guilty leaving her with them while I get to have fun.

Bout a 3 hour trip to Moses Lake area so usually a 2-3 day trip for me. I either stay in my camper or Mardon's. if I am hunting the river I may stay at my brother's place in Sunland.  I'm sure we could work something out if interested

Soup...

You  mentioned Altus.  My brother is an instructor in Altus right now at the loadmaster school.   You do anything with those guys?

A friend of mine and I do some upland hunting around Moses lake and a little farther out.  We pretty much only do day hunts also since we both have young kids too.  We leave the Silverdale area between 3 and 4 am and return a bit after dark.  I'd love do do some duck hunting, but don't have any of the gear.  If you wanted to link up with dkhtr on one of his multiday trips, I'd let you ride with us and drop you off/pick you up.  That is dependent on whether or not we are going to be hunting one of the days dkhtr will be out.  We'll eb driving anyway so I figured i'd offer.  Might be difficult to coordinate, but will save money and keep you as a duckin day hunter.

Tagging along.  Looking to learn the ropes so I can go out on my own!
Location: Snohomish County
Times: early weekdays are best, I try to get to the east side on the weekends for upland.
Never really duck hunted before, so I don't have much in the way of gear.  I have waders and a gun though! :)  I also have a GSP that loves the water, but she's never been duck hunting, so no guarantees there.

Hello, newbie here looking for an open seat. I am from South Carolina & am visiting my parents in Gig Harbor until Jan 7th. Would love to be able to get in some hunting while here.. Avid hunter back in SC, but it's a terrible state for duck hunting  :yike: I have been considering going out & getting a canoe or aluminum boat & enough other stuff to get me by, but came across the forum & saw how good you guys are about sharing!! If anyone has a empty seat within a reasonable drive of Gig Harbor then let me know.. not looking for a "free" ride & would pull my own weight.
Thanks in advance!

If anyone wants to help a new guy out in the Snohomish area, would really appreciate it.  Willing to trade intel on local salmon, steelhead, trout, bass, panfish spots, techniques, etc.  Also if you are new to fishing and want to learn float and jig, twitching jigs, fly fishing, getting kids into fish, etc, would be happy to share in exchange...  Interested in getting into waterfowl, pheasant, upland birds, turkeys as well.  With the goal of getting my kids involved.  In fact, if you like taking kids along, I have some good kids who would love to tag along and learn as well.

My friend and I are wanting to go out for the first time for birds this year. Don't know much about which decoys to get, how to call, etc. We'd very much like to learn from experienced people who can show us the ropes. We already have our licenses for them!

Thanks

Scott,
Look these guys(The Fallen Outdoors) up on facebook. That is what they do is take soldiers and sailors out hunting and fishing. I am one of the team members so let me know if you need more help. Most of the Washington guys are out of JBLM but not me or I would take you out.

Anyone have an open seat to Nisqually or where ever you're going? Ill throw in money for boat fuel and/or travel if we ride share.
Experienced, 24 years old, been hunting for about six years, I work odd schedules as a machinist but its an irregular night schedule. Im easy to get along with and ex-military with dekes & gear & vehicle (hunting with a remington sportsman 20ga), I just dont have a boat or bird dog. Havent signed up for JBLM yet. It might be an odd request but my only hunting buddy moved and I dont know many people around here, just looking to get out and have some fun and meet new people.
Available all the time, I have my waterfowl license.

Thanks

I have a "ticket" to the McNary Lottery Fee area on Saturday the 3rd.  My pick number is not good but hopefully a lot of hunters will not show up.  I am going to call the office tomorrow to see how badly the water is frozen up.  If they give me good news I am going and will have room in the blind.  Fish and Wildlife service will charge us 15$ each at the gate.  You can bring no more than 25 shells.

PM Me if interested

Hello all, I'm new to this site but am an avid hunter for 40 years now. I have been hunting on the East side with a good friend, however; he is now oversea's, and I'm looking for new hunting partners on the West side. Since I'm between contracts at the moment, I can go at a moments notice. I live in Lake Stevens. I greatly appreciate the consideration.

Hello, I am new to this forum and I have been an avid waterfowler for approximately 30 years. I just moved to western Washington from Montana in July. I have not hunted in Washington so I am looking for someone to go with. I have everything with one exception I need to replace my outboard (18 to 25 hp). I would really like to go after some sea ducks but puddlers or other divers would be great also. I currently live in Auburn and currently not working full time so can hunt most anytime and actually would prefer weekdays. I am willing to travel several hours and/or meet up to help with expenses. I would also be open to going with another "new to the area" person.  You can PM me if you are interested. Thanks Doug

So here's the deal...

My plans are to go to Potholes State Park on the 16th of October

My usual Hunting Partner will be deer hunting, so I will have an open seat

I have hunted this area a couple times, but of course it changes all the time so it's always great..

I have a new boat
Decoy's
a 7 month old Yellow Lab " Bailey" who is doing great so far

if your familiar with the area " Don't want some ones Honey Hole" and would like to hunt

give me a reply

Hi , my name is Shaun and i have been hunting duck for a couple years and was out at an estate sale a bought 8-10 dozen GH magnum and regular sized honker decoys and 5-6 dozen snow geese decoys. I would love to go goose hunting if anyone has room.  I have never been goose hunting but what i can offer is several dozen decoys and my winning personality and not to bad a shot.  I live in the everett area and not afraid to drive a little either.

My plan is to hunt Mon, Tues, Wed on the Columbia near Wenatchee. I have the boat (18ft duckworth and lots of experience running boats), dog, dekes etc. If the passes are ok and I can get there and someone wants to jump in that's good. OR if anyone up North has some good ground and an open seat I'm up for that also if the passes are bad. Maybe we could work a peninsula steelhead trip or something in trade. I won't have an extra place to stay if in Wenatchee.

I have a spot reserved tomorrow in skagit for duck hunting, a family situation came up and I can no longer go. If anyone wants I can add them to the hunt up to 2 people so the hunt doesn't get wasted for the day. It's too late for me to cancel so if anyone wants in just pm me
For anyone ho has tried to get ahold of me and I haven't got back ahold of u I truly apologize it had been a interesting few months between work and having a 8 month old daughter but things are not being so crazy now so I will be getting ahold of everyone in the next fe days and will be out there opener day so there is still a open seat in my boat again I'm sorry

I moved to Blaine, WA from Colorado a few months ago and need some friendly locals to advise me and guide me on where to hunt. I'm retired (which means I can hunt weekdays), 72 years old, somewhat creaky but still active enough to hunt ducks, canadas and snows. My old hunting dog half-lab half-shorthair is 14 and can't hunt any more, but he's still such a good buddy I can't, or won't, replace him. Have a Browning BPS 10-gauge, a Benelli Super Nova 12, plenty of duck dekes, a few Canada floaters and 400-odd Texas rags for snows. I hear Skagit County has some good dark and light goose hunting but people say you need a boat to reach the good spots, which I don't have.

Hey guys, I've been hunting for only a couple years. Im 18 and haven't been able to hunt very often in a blind. Mostly jumpshooting the farms in Enumclaw. Nothing flying around Enumclaw at the moment. I don't want to sound needy, but looking for a mentor or anyone to hunt with on the west side. Dad  gave up hunting before I was born and wasn't willing to pick it up again to teach me.. I have About a dozen old decoys, but no waders yet. Pm me if you've got an open seat!

I'm home from college until January, so that means I'm free almost every day in December and the rest of November for duck and/or goose hunting.  I've hunted ducks and geese around farms a few times when I was little, but I'm just now getting back into it.  I don't have waders or a place set up to hunt, but I do have 12 decoys and can also arrange some transportation and/or gas money if needed.  Message me if you've got an opening for another person around the Redmond/Woodinville/Duvall/Carnation area (or just in the vicinity, I'd be fine driving down to Kent or up to Everett for a day) any day of the week.

This is my first year duck and goose hunting wver. My girlfriend got her license and said she wantediluvian ducks more than anything so we tried it out. I found a handful of public areas and had trouble getting on private land. The season ended to soon for us to get her her first birds. I was hoping someone may have a couple open seats for the area 2 spring goose season and if so we have all equipment necessary and would be more than willing to compensate for gas, food and the privilege to hunt with skilled waterfowlers.

Saw this on the Washington Waterfowlers Association FB page.

Washington Waterfowl Association

NW Chapter Youth Hunts

The WWA NW Chapter is once again sponsoring youth waterfowl hunts at various locations in north Puget Sound.

This is an excellent opportunity to mentor youth under 16 years and a great way to introduce youth to the hunting experience and heritage. Mentors play a pivotal role in developing hunters. That first hunt can mark the beginning of a lifelong passion for the outdoors and a commitment to wildlife conservation. If you’re new to Waterfowl hunting we can set you up with experienced support at the blind. All are welcome!

Hunt Dates: Sept. 22nd and 23rd

Rick Skiba our chapter Youth Hunt Coordinator has secured hunts at these locations:

Edison Hunt Club. 2 Pit Blinds adjacent to a fresh water pond. Morning and afternoon hunts. 1/2 hour before sunrise until noon and from 1 pm till sunset.

The Nature Conservancy in Port Susan. 2 – 3 Dike blinds. Afternoon hunts. Due to low morning tides we will hunt from 1 pm until sunset.

Swinomish Gun Club. 9 blinds. Afternoon hunts. Due to low morning tides we will hunt from 1 pm until sunset.

Reservations are required. First come-first served. Please contact Rick Skiba reskiba@msn.com (360) 387-2225 or Rick Billieu, rgbillieu@frontier.com (360) 653-8571.

Recently moved to Camano Island from southern California and looking for an open seat to hunt waterfowl.  I  have a little bit of experience but not much.  I also have waders, a few decoys, and a young but eager and talented dog.  I can't call and I don't have a boat.
For the early part of the season, I'm primarily interested in day hunts on the west side as I have a lot of travel planned.  I will be returning from my Wyoming elk hunt in late November and I'll have more time for waterfowl after that.

I'm going to hunt the Dungeness estuary with or without anyone else.  I've been in the NOP for a while but never hunted that area for ducks, et al. I've got a choco lab that I want to introduce as well.

ETA: I have 2 non-hunting teen girls that paddle kayaks, dog wrangle, bear ammo, pack out and clean ducks (on request), and provide other high energy help.

I went to the NE chapter that meets at the Conway fire hall and joined tonight. I will be taking my daughter out and they have room for 10 more youth.  Im looking forward to sitting in a blind at one of the gun clubs that donated access... One that Ive drooled at when Ive been scouting. Just tell Rick if you youth has chest /hip waders or just rubber boots. Each blind is supplied with about a dozen decoys, Im going to bring some of my own to supplement.

Second year waterfowler looking to join/learn from some more experienced hunters. Live near JBLM but willing to travel. I have 3.5 dz goose decoys and 2 dz duck floaters. And a flat back canoe with trolling motor. I have gotten my self into ducks and geese but can be very hard when I'm by myself and larger groups move into the same areas. Would.like to ideally find a group or a couple different groups to join and add to to help better everyone's odds.

Hey all,

Moved to Everett from Seattle. Looking for hunting partner for anywhere within 1-2 hours for upcoming waterfowl season. I have all the gear/gun and about 25 mallard decoys. Have only been at it 2 years now but having a great time chasing the birds!

This being an open seat thread, if you've got one I'd love it!

Stanwood/Skagit Wildlife Area are close to me but like i said, I wouldn't mind if we ever made a roadtrip out of it. I have plenty of days off from work and a cool wife (who could or could not join us..)

PM me or write me here and I look forward to meeting!

You should consider joining the Washington waterfowl association. There is a chapter that meets at the Kenmore gun range and one that meets at the entry to duck central... Conway.

If anyone has an extra seat in  boat or a spot in the blind that you wouldn't mind throwing out there, I'd be happy to take it. Feel free to respond here or message me directly. Would be willing to shuttle people with my boat as well if you have service buddies that are looking to get out also.
