Bronze brushes are fine, just do not try to reverse direction in the bore, and be sure it is all the way out before you reverse.

Personally I use nylon brushes for both pistol and rifles.....

I use bronze brushes for most applications.  If I want to get crazy clean, I will break out the stainless brushes.  I always use a brush soaked in my favorite cleaning solution first, then let it set for a bit, then go to work with the patches.

I've pretty much gone to the Patch Out Accelorator liquid followed by regular Patch Out at 1 hour intervals until the blue from the copper jackets is gone.  If i put a lot of rounds through the gun, like at the range, I'll run a bronze brush through the wet bore at the start, to loosen the powder fouling.

I would discourage the use of stainless brushes if possible. you are getting to the same level of hardness and risk of bore scratches goes up.....not to say that a stainless brush will junk a bore, but sure has higher odds. if a bore can't be cleaned with powder and copper solvent, there is a problem.

I wont strip the copper out of my bore tell I see it effect the accuracy of the gun, I will clean the carbon out and make sure it doesnt rust. Sure the compatition shooters do a lot of cleaning but normally after 150-200 rounds or more. I need to find it but there is a study out there about over cleaning and how it doesnt allow the rifle to shot like it can and wipes out the crown of the bore faster. sierra's test 308 was involved in it and shot tighter groups and more uniformed pressures when dirty 500+ rounds :twocents:
