Anyone from hunt-wa headed that direction for a wolf hunt? She has permission on some land for deer but has never seen a wolf in her stomping grounds before.. if anyone would be willing to allow a few cute mid-20's ladies to tag along for a wolf hunt or at least send us in the right direction it would be appriciated! :chuckle:

We will be hunting deer, then elk, in Unit 39 from Oct 27th through Nov 9th. Probably further south, and not in your time frame, but if it is feel free to PM me ahead of the 26th and I'll provide contact info. I would be happy to share wolf information while I am there, but I need to fill my tag first :IBCOOL:

I was more hoping for information flow due to the fact that I've been a forum contributor for a while more than anything.. but it doesn't hurt that we're a couple of ladies, I'm sure. :chuckle: Happy hunting.. here's hoping you fill all your tags! It doesn't look like we'll be leaving Washington until the night of the 11th or the morning of the 12th; my hunting partner has a 50th birthday party to attend for a family member. :) Looks like we'll be missing each other. Any help on locating some large canines would be greatly appriciated, though!

I hope I didn't offend, just teasing the members a bit. People are so tight lipped on everything these days, even if it's a place to get out and shoot is all your after. I would hope when it comes to wolves the information would flow like crazy. I have heard a lot about the Clearwater area, and the abundance of wolves in that area.
We have seen plenty of track down in 39, but have only seen 2 wolves over the 6 years I have hunted the unit. If we were targeting them, I am sure we would see more. Best of luck with your hunting! :) We'll certainly have a large sampling of calls... from coyote, wolf, deer, elk... we'll try just about anything, I'm sure, to get a wolf in front of us.

We have seen several tracks but only a couple single wolves in 8A. Have definately heard about a lot more down in the Dworshack area, including that big one killed at Headquarters. Good Luck. I am hoping to get back over to try to fill my wolf tag also. Already got the deer taken care of.

I have an Id deer tag, but doubt I will use it. Wolves have pounded the area I go, and visibility to call one in, is nearly impossible. Best of luck though.
Well here's hoping you find a great buck OR wolf... at $32 for a tag its probably worth it if you already have the deer tag, I suppose. :dunno:

Try other side of Kalispell Mt, or Bunko area. Group seen on Diagonal rd and around clagstone those wolves trying to cross WA. Also Athol side by Clark Fork side. CDA river side on the athol side or North of CDA river turn right at Silver area.
They are running the base of Bunko and out on to the flat now.
They are somewhere. Wish I could move there.

So I spent my first stint (I'm nowhere near done!) in Idaho this past weekend/part of this week. The first day I arrived, I spotted two wolves in-and-out of the fog a few miles away. Because there was little to no visibility up where they were at, I decided not to pursue them and just familiarize myself with the area. I drove a few roads, saw a 5 point bull, a few cows, and a really nice 4 point whitetail that was starting to push some does. Met some fantastic people from Lewiston as well as Federal Way that invited me to a ribeye dinner that night. The next day, I started in at about 6:30 AM... other than deer, I hadn't seen a thing since I switched sides of the mountain, but the gentlemen I had dinner with swore they crossed some wolf tracks the day before in the fresh snow. I sat down, had some water and a granola bar at about 10:30 and decided to try a howl... wouldn't you know it, it worked! Two wolves sounded off to my right! I got packed back up and headed in that direction, cutting some fresh tracks. They hit an old logging road and I was in hot pursuit! I came around a bend in the road and had two at 150 yards; I sat down, got my scope covers off and settled in for the shot; they moved behind some timber before I was ready! :bash: At that point I tried to get back into position where I could shoot and I think they busted me... either way, I was stubborn and tracked them through clearcuts and powerline swaths hoping to have one more opportunity. No luck... I ended up really far away from my vehicle due to a GPS snafu and had to rely on the kindness of strangers to get back to my vehicle that night, so I told myself I was on a time-out until I could go with someone else.. I'm sure you already do, but please be careful out there. You were close and nearly had one, that is awesome. I am going to Unit 10 this weekend to try and tree a lion and hopefully tag a wolf.

If there was howling, it would have been VERY difficult to hear them; the wind was almost scary at times; two trees fell within 100 feet of me during that excursion.
I'll be back in December, showsnoes in hand. :)
