I watched a 10x8 mulie buck this morning in a clearcut with 11 does. I had the time to look over all of them. They spent close to an hour in the cut feeding so I got to observe all of them for a long time.
They never knew I was there they fed and moseyed up and over the rim.
-
So wheres the picts of him with your tag on him
-
he's still on the hill!!
-
no kidding. Catch and release is good, but few on here have that kind of restraint. :)
-
no shot??
-
If a 10x8 isn't big enough for you, I'm curious what in the world you're holding out for! :yike:
-
are you sure it wasnt a 11 x 9 alan? lmao jk :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Why did you not put the hunt on this sob? I would have hiked myself straight into the grave to put a shot on a 10x8.
-
Well I was off the road over 4 miles by myself. Also as I grow long in the tooth I pick battles I can win!
First deer I shot was 1966! So I am in no hurry.

Nothing wrong with that Ridge, I let 3 bears walk over the weekend because of the work it would have taken to get them out.
-
That's a reasonable answer.

Showing your age there old man....

why were you hunting that deep if you didnt plan on shooting something in there? :chuckle:

HONEST ANSWER!
Get away from the coasties!!!
Perhaps a more PC answer is Westsider's

I passed a 4x5 blacktail yesterday evening because there was just no way I could have gotten it out of the creek bottom by myself. I really regret it now cause the biggest I have killed so far was a 2pt
But you gotta know your limits when it comes to recovering animals

How was it in a clearcut 4 miles from the road?

How was it in a clearcut 4 miles from the road?
Well lets see if I can clear this up! The old logging roads that are nothing but tag alder messes are still there. But these are roads that I used to drive back in the late 70's. Which now are only walkin's. Which I am glad to see.
Question's?
-
"eastside" loggers are just that bad ass :chuckle:
-
OK not sure if this is "profiling" but ran into a group of hunters who when they told me where they had shot a buck I asked if it was over the "KELLY HUMP'S" and they asked what are those!
-
We need to get you into photography ridge.
-
LOL I carry a pocket camera all the time. Is that what you mean?
-
Well to finish the story!
It took my spotting scope turned up to 60 to see the third point on his head at about 275 yards!
He was about 10 inches wide and 8 inches tall. :sry:
Couldn't see putting his nose on the lawn when I know what has been in there.
-
They didn't know what "kelly humps" were? Maybe I am getting old as well.
-
nice..... :chuckle:
-
LOL @ Kelly humps... this early season we were driving up to our jump off spot to hunt, and they had "kelly humped" the old road.... when I said that a couple of the guys I hunt with asked me why they called them that..... Heck all I could say was I had no clue... just what my grandpa and Dad had always called them.
-
Is this one you're talking about ? Ya gotta count all the little tiny points to make it Ridgeratts 8x10...... :dunno:
The deer had it's leg like that because he was embarassed to be in the back of a Dodge......

Because they could drive the dodge all the way to him, where the Ford and Chevy would have needed to be pulled out by the dodge.... Nice buck by the way!

Heck, I am one of the "young" guys today I guess, I know what those are, all my hunting thats not in the wilderness is either behind gates or kelly humps.

And okay, that makes sense, I was wondering if it had been logged with helicopter or what. Sounds like a good time.
-
i'd be more than willing to go up and shoot him, i'll even share the meat with ya. just p.m. me his area :chuckle:

Actually, it was hauled up there by an ATV......... :chuckle:  :4w:

Kitty in the water
-
necks time you go in that far and see a buck like that .take a fork and some seasoning. litten the load.
-

I wouldn't even let my Grandson shoot him if he would have been with me! There are much better roaming and sometimes it is better to let one walk than notch a tag. I also would have guessed that with out my spotting scope to make sure I could perhaps have been in the same predicament as another member who has been accused of tipping a 2x2. Not worth the headache's

So this 10X8 is actually a 10" wide by 8" tall potential 2 point then?
This was post # 27

The area is notorious for High Wide 2's.

Nice buck campmeat  I always pull there legs up between the horns when I am draggin them out ...just easier and you can keep his front end up off the ground for easier draggin  :yeah:

The leg kept falling off of the ATV, so the shooter put it like that. It was a long ways down a canyon, 374 yard shot. It was a big boy for sure. Makes ya kinda jealous, at least me......
-
Ridge you are a wise select hunter.

So shoot it and bring a friend with you in the morning? :dunno: or make multiple trips?
-
No Ridge will bring a tub of apples and pears then he will shoot in on a slight hill. It will die on the slight hill so he can back his truck up to the hill then he can pull the deer into the bed of his truck. :chuckle:
-
So.............how old ya think he is and what ya think he scores ?? :chuckle:
-
if you go after that buck i personally will come drag it out for you :hello:
-

ME? Well close to 60! Score just a shade over 200. Counting Baby Fat!
