Title: Life Size Bear Mount Examples--Please
Post by: RubblesPH on July 07, 2008, 05:17:02 PM: I've been searching for some examples of life size bear mounts. So far the pic from Hunting Cowboy is right up there at the top. If any of you have any other pics to post I'd appreciate seeing them.

Post by: Hunting Cowboy on July 07, 2008, 10:21:29 PM: I like several forms from McKenzie Taxidermy supply. There are also some from Research mannikins that are nice. The form I used on my lifesize bear was from McKenzie Taxidermy Supply and Is form #LBR-97-OM which measures
5 x 20-1/4 x 42 x 56-1/2. It is a Front elevated Right Turn, Open Mouth.

The eye to nose measurement on my bear was 5", Neck was 20-3/8", Belly circumference was 43-1/2" and the Nose to base of tail measurement was 60" so I had to slightly modify this form to fit my measurements.

There are also some Rayline forms which look good and McKenzie carries those as well. Check out the forms @

Post by: RubblesPH on July 08, 2008, 12:05:24 PM: Ya, I'm going to mount this years Spring bear, But before i do that I need to get my 06' bear finished. It's wet tanned and sitting in the freezer. I'll try to post some pics of it, maybe that will help you guys come up with some more ideas for me. I'll try to scan some pics in this evening.

Please have a look and see if you have any ideas for this particular bear....he's a real porker, so I think a standing mount would be out (couch potato with a beer gut).

Post by: bucklucky on July 09, 2008, 08:41:28 PM: I know a good form for the first bear. I helped my buddy out with a big spring bear from Oregon that was colored real similar and looked to be about the same size. I will have to find the pictures though. Give me a few minutes.

Post by: bucklucky on July 09, 2008, 08:55:43 PM: This is a bear I Helped a buddy mount about 6 years ago, you can order the form withthe closed mouth also. Ive used this form twice, once open and once closed. Its not finished, just mounted in the picture but youll get the point. Hope this helps.

You have talked me into a fight scene! I sat down with my taxi this weekend and he has a huge form for the bigger bear up in his rafters that is like the black colored bear example that FOstelology posted. Great to see a finished product, thanks FOs. We'll probably mount it on a rock like that with a snarl on his face. My taxi showed me an example of a new mouth piece that I have never seen before......looks really nasty!

The other bear will be standing on top of a kill, probably an old nasty whitetail cape/head mount/horns with brush piled on it and have a pose somewhat like the one Bucklucky posted and will have an open mouth/growl. I'm going to make a base like the one Hunting Cowboy put his on.

Hopefully it will look pretty intense!
