First of all, What a great year! Our season began a bit foggy, limiting our ability to locate deer with our bino's and spotting scopes. We were able to have a great time in the outdoors, and finding deer became easier once the foggy mornings burned off. FF4607 and I were lucky enough to have our brides both hunting with us this year. This was FF4607's wifes first year with a deer tag, and this year was MRS. C-Moneys first year in 6years to be out hunting. Now that our kids are old enough to stay at Grandma and Grandpas house, We were all glad to have my wife, MRS C-money back on the hunt. MRS FF4607 has watched us hunt for many years and was able to harvest her first buck this year.

This is C-Money and here is some of the story. Fog on opening morning, limited our ability to glass. FF4607 was able to tag his 3pt opening morning. What a great story, that he will tell on this thread. Lets fast forward to Monday morning. MRS C-Money spotted some deer at the top of a canyon that has been very good to us over the years. We see a few bucks, confirm 2pts and a spike with the spotting scopes. Then we see a wide 2x3, he is a buck we seen on Sunday, that we could not get to. We make a plan that MR & MRS FF4607 would go low and move in closer, while myself and the MRS would walk up the hill well west of the deer and go accross the top above the deer and sneak down and try to get into position for a shot. We make it to where we want to go down, so down we go, very slow and carefuly. We did not make it far when we spot a pair of 2pts stomping around each other, ears pinned back. Good, they dont know we are here, even though the pair of bucks are only 80yards below us. RATS, we cant move with out them seeing us, spooking and running down hill taking all the other deer with them. 10 minutes pass, which felt like an hour, untill the two bucks move far enough below us and out of sight. Off we go, being very careful, we loop around to get the win in our faces and head down the hill. As we approach, We see 11 does bedded with a spike, all looking down the canyon. The big 2x3 is feeding to the right of the does, and the two 2pts are stomping around each other off to the left of him. I deploy the shooting stix, MRS hunkers down to take the shot. Nope! She is quite a bit smaller than me, and the CRP grass is to tall, she cant find the 2x3 in the scope. Now Remember the spike with the does, well he now has us pegged. He did not stand, but he had his eyes and ears locked on us. We sure had to get this shot before he bounced away alerting all the other deer, including our big 2x3. The MRS crawled down a few more yards untill she was comfortable, re deployed her shooting stix and steady in for the 200yard shot. The spike still is watching us, but is still bedded, and no one els knew we were there. I have the 2x3 in my bino's, I hear my MRS whisper "Ok, I have in in the scope." BANG! The sound of her 7mm-08 rang out down the canyon. I saw the buck fall and heard the soild "Whop" of her shot finding its mark. Words can not discribe the feeling of seeing the woman you love the most in this world make a great shot on a dandy mule deer. We were SO excited. We gave the buck a moment, say a prayer thanking God for the deer, great friends, and the ability to be outdoors. As we approach, we find MRS C-Moneys buck, a buck that was much larger than any buck I have harvested, and one that will be hard to beat for my MRS in the future. FF4607 and his wife make their way to us and help us wrap up a superb hunt!

Alright here is some more pictures. I kept trying to post but forgot I had to resize my pictures. :bash:
We didn't have a good year. It was good for my hunting party but not for the whole family. My group is 5 of 8. The family is 8 of 18. I don't know if it was the weather or the recent spotting of bear and cougars.
1st buck of the year was mine. A 3 point. My last buck was killed 6 years ago.
2nd buck down was my cousin's daughter's first buck. A 3 point.
3rd buck down was C-moneys wife. A 2x3.
4th buck down was my cousin's. A 4 point.
5th buck was C-money's 3 point. Which his and my wifes buck where killed within 600 yards and about 30 minutes apart.
6th buck was my wife's first buck a 3 point. She was kind of disappointed by the size of it. She wanted a bigger buck, but after I showed her mine first buck she felt a bit better. She did make a good shot on it thou.
7th buck was my sister's 3 point.

0230, second Saturday, I awoke and began to get ready. I get in the safe to grab my .270win and my wife awoke. She said since she was staying home to watch our children, she wanted me to take her 7mm-08 hunting so a part of her was with me. I said ok, and off I went with a Browning that had a pink sling on it. Wifes rifle is the same as mine, just a different cartridge. I only had to explain the pink sling a few times, most reconized the rifle as Mrs C-Moneys. Anyway, off we go at first light. We spot a group of 9 does and a tiny 2x2 buck on a hill side. As we glass with our spotting scopes, We discover there is another buck, a good size 3x3 as well. The nice 3x3 feeds over a hill and into another canyon. We make a plan for FF4607 to go low and get below the buck, hoping that the buck would stay toward the top for Mrs FF4607 to get a shot. Well, the little 2x2 broke off from the doe's and went down the canyon towards where the 3x3 went, so we really hoped that the 3x3 was still around. We sat at the top of the canyon for 30 min with out seeing the 3x3. We saw the 2x2 go up and over to the next ridge, but no sign of the 3x3. I saw FF4607 comming up the canyon, so I move a bit closer and out on a rock cliff to talk to FF4607 without needing to talk loudly. Niether one of us knew where the 3x3 buck was, and we both figured he gave is the slip. we laughed, figuring we were out foxed, when all of the sudden the 3x3 jumps up from the base of the cliff and quickly rockets down to the bottom and up the other side! YIKE! He was right below me, and between myself and FF4607 during the whole conversation! MRS FF4607 did not have a good shot with me standing on the cliff in the way. Mrs & MR. FF4607 said Get him! As he was running down, I deployed my shooting stix and readyed my self for the 3x3 to apear on the other side. Up he cam at a trot. the 3x3 was 160 yards accross the canyon by now and I settled my cross hairs on him as he was trotting, just when I was feeling ready to squeeze the trigger he stopped and looked back. BANG! Whop! Down! The 7mm-08 sure did it job well once again! A feeling of Joy flooded me, as the buck hit the dirt. The 3x3 slightly moved his head and a front leg and he began to slide, the slide turned into a tumble, Down the canyon he went! :bash: just when he slowed, he moved his head again, and down further he went. This all took place in a matter of seconds, and in an effort to stop the movement, he caught another bullet in the rib cage. He tumbled quite a ways down, lucky for me his antlers were still intact and upon quartering, the meat was fine! I felt bad that Mrs FF4607 did not have a chance to harvest that buck, but the good Lord always has a plan. Mr & Mrs FF4607 went back to the truck to get supplies to pack out my deer. On the way back, they ended up finding another 3x3 that Mrs FF4607 was able to make a perfect lung shot on! Two bucks in 30 minutes! This was truly a very special day. Mrs FF4607 got her first buck, and my buck turned out to be my personel best. Great times!

I was wondering where all that shooting was coming from :chuckle: Great season guys! Man that is a great buck Andrea shot! Remember that big 4 I was telling you I saw Cory. That sure looks like him :chuckle: I bet she was happy with him. I might of even had to shoot that one :chuckle: Looks like a nice set of bucks. Did Ray pop one yet?
-
Andrea killed a great buck! She will be very smiley for a long time to come. Heck, everyone will have smiles for a long time to come!
You folks do any good Carp?
-
Pretty solid. Been a little slow, we have a big cat problem and are only seeing about 1/3 of the deer in a normal year. We have at least 3 on our place right now. Tried to kill one a few days ago, when I heard it calling in the canyon below me. Trying to sneak up on a cat is pretty hard to do. I figured I had a shot at it, but no suck luck. It's coming
-
Nope Dad didn't get one. The one he was wanting to get wasn't around. He did try to find him thou.
Yeah they saw a bear opening morning down in oak flat. I heard it got shot thou.

Wow, nice job everyone!!

Love seeing families enjoying our outdoors. Very cool

Hey Carp, 3 lions eat a lot of deer. Hope you are able to thin them out. Guess we were not the only one noticing lower deer numbers. The cats must go!

You guys know how to get er done. Congrats to all.

I am gonna add a cow pic here due to the elk tread being a victim of the server malfunction.
