With the temps finally dropping and food sources getting limited for bears, it seems like "prime" calling weather as the bears know they must pack on some poundage and will likely come in in a hurry before its nap time for the next 5 months.
Raspy rabbitt distress, Doe, Fawn and Calf distress :twocents:
Thoughts?
Season closes November 15th i believe

This is just my opinion, but I believe this time of the year they are really slowing down and not ranging as far. I believe calling is effective, however I believe you'll need to be close and call non-stop, that last part is KEY! I would go with a coarse call and start off low volume and slowly increase the volume and intensity and call for at least 45 min to an hour.

Bears will be feeding up to 20 hours a day trying to pack on a few more pounds, but I agree with Machias in that they may be getting a bit lazy (for lack of a better term). On the westside I see them feeding on Evergreen huck and remaining salas berries alot.
Fawn distress is good all year round.

I have called in 3 bears this rifle deer season. I will watch a clear cut for about an hour and if I do not see any deer, I will lay on a fawn distress call. This usually bumps up any deer that might be hiding in the cut. I usually stick with it for about 40 minutes.
