Ok, so I am 14 years old, and really getting in to hunting. Next year i will be hunting turkey and deer in coleville and pheasant elsewhere. However, i really want to get out and hunt some small game and especially coyote. Problem is, i don't really know where to hunt nearby(i live in renton). I would really appreciate if someone could point me to a decent spot for hunting within an hour from my location(want to do mostly coyote/small game). I have a 308, 12 guage and 22 and am willing to hunt with any of them. My parents already said i can go out and hunt with a buddy of mine, but he won't be able to hunt as much as i'm planning on hunting. So also im asking the legal solo hunting age and seeing if theres anyone out there who can help or is willing to help me get more into hunting (ANYTHING). Any help is appreciated, and thank you very, very, much for any help you can in fact provide.

There is no minimum solo hunting age in Washington
-
I would however tell you that at 14, please, be careful. It is VERY easy to get in over your head in the woods without knowing it. An hour pack in may take you 6 hours to get out. A lesson I learned the hard way

As far as yotes an hour from Renton, sorry, I can't help you there.
-
you are legal to solo hunt at 14, a 22 will put a yote down but it takes a very skilled shot so I suggest to use your 308. Getting to a area might be a problem for you, cops dont like kids riding bikes with a rifle on their back too much so I would look for a ride. For a young yote hunter (this might drive your parents crazy..) but I suggest getting a few calls, and videos(primo's truth videos are good for listening to sounds and there are others out there) watch the video, listen to the sounds(the important part) then pause it and try to make those sounds. also youtube has some decent how to call pieces on it, look for the big names I.E. Randy Anderson. I cant help you out with the area though, I do not know renton that well, but yotes are all over look for some stateland, or dnr or even a farmer close to you.

I'm pretty sure you have to be old enough to buy the ammo for the gun you want to carry to carry it alone
-
Farmland would be a hit. 14 is a bit young for a job but if you have some money saved up or, hey, Christmas is coming up, look into a FoxPro.
-
Actually Double J, thats exactly what i was looking at for xmas! and my brother offered me a job helping him in carpentry over the coming summer. Also, is the area near north bend(south of 1-90 and east of hwy 18) ok for coyote? i was told i could shoot a rifle there, and read that there was other wildife in the area, but don't know about coyotes. Is this info correct? Because for me getting out there often would be no issue at all.

And also when it comes to gun/hunters safety, ive of course done the classes, am a life(almost eagle!)scout, and an avid shooter.

there isnt a specifically legal hunting age but u must have atleast 5 years hunting in order to solo hunt
-
Anywhere in the state where there is any sort of animal, there are coyotes.

Really? I didn't think there was any written rule on the subject

Where abouts are you?

I have never heard that, smart rule, but havent heard of it being a law.
I would try out along Chinook pass, see alot of game on the wet side.

This is how I learned to call when I was a kid. drove my sister and mom carzy :chuckle: but it worked. I am a decent caller now

Mr user - I have a video or two I can set you up. I know I have a Primos Randy Anderson DVD, I will try & make a copy of it and send it to you and I think I have another. If I cant copy if, you can have it. I've watched it enough. Also, go to the Predator Quest website and you can watch all the episodes from there - Les Johnson is a good caller, learn to make the sounds he does. I think I may even have a few extra calls I can send you too. I'll dig thru my gear and pull out what I can for ya. PM me a mailing address and I'll let you know when I get something in the mail.
