Title: ID
Post by: ducksdogsdownriggers on October 26, 2011, 09:41:33 PM
A buddy of mine shot this last week in the Brewster Pool area.  Any ideas?  My first guess based on the photo was an immature hen Bufflehead, but he says the bird is way too large to be a buffy.

Looks to be a common GE hen to me.

If you hear the whistling while they are flying that is another way to assist in narrowing down the field of ducks as they are approaching your decoy spread.  Pick yourself up one of the waterfowl ID books and see how many species you can locate while out on your hunt.  It will help in the long run and might save you from an avoidable ticket at some time.  Good luck.
