Looking to buy a gun for concealing. I narrowed it down to the xd sub compact 40 or glock. The xd is heavier than the glock but I like the feel of the xd better. How important is the weight factor when concealing? I'm trying to stay around $450 range. I shot the xd before but never the glock. Thoughts?

Are you looking at XD or XDm? If you go with an XD, just make sure you get one of the newer ones (probably not a factor anymore). I know in like 2005-2006ish they changed the finish on the slide of the XDs to better control rust. I have the finish from before that and it can be a pain to keep rust off in this environment. :twocents:

Yes new xd, I could be wrong but they do make a sub compact in the xdm. Thanks for pointing out the rust issue.
-
Sorry, you're right. Only the compact in xdm.
-
XD for the grip angle, ergonomics, grip safety.

Realistically, weight is a non-issue with a decent belt. I carry a 35ish oz all steel cqb compact with zero issues. I do need to make sure I have a real good belt for the 43 oz railed full size 1911. But for the compact that clocks in well over 30 oz I can make do with a web style belt and Kramer horsehide belt scabbard.

go shoot the glock and the xd. see what you like more

Good points, thanks for the input guys, will need to shoot the glock. But so FAR I like the feel of the XD.
-
Either one should work fine, more personal preference than anything.
-
The only way to tell which one YOU prefer more is to go shoot them. Everyone is going to have their own opinion but really it comes down to your comfort. Me personally will never own a Glock, they feel horrible in my hand. The grip angle is to severe, the weight distribution is horrible, and I am also big on external safeties and live chamber indicators which glock's do not have to my knowledge. As someone already mentioned though a good belt and holster combo will eliminate almost all of the worries about weight. My FN comes in it at right around 27 ounces before you put a loaded mag in it and I can't even tell its on my hip most of the time.

good info. I'm going to shoot the glock this week. I agree I do not like the lack of safety on the glock. I like the XD and the way it shot, plus just holding the glock I found it not be a good fit. My brother-in-law has a glock and when he shoots the slide catches his skin. Not good.

I've never owned a Glock, but have had XD's, and like them. Glocks are fine guns, but I have a real concern about the only safety being in the trigger. As a former LE friend said a while back: "A Glock is not a gun for an inexperienced shooter." I purchased an FN FNX-9 a while back, and like it so much that I sold my 40-XD Sub-compact to buy an FNP-40. :twocents:

I have the XDM 3.8 in 9mm and the XD .40 subcompact. I like the XD .40 much better. Shoots
great...easy to conceal. $445.00 @ Sport Co. Springfield Armoury is also giving away 3 free clips
if bought before the end of the year.

before nov. 30th

XD all the way. I would go to the xdm
-
Seems to me you already made up your mind. Go get it. ;)

Not too experienced with the XD. However I have years of CCW with a Glock. I'd say weight is less important than size and concealability. Too light a gun = too much recoil.

I had the xd 9 compact, my dad has the glock 19 and my baby sis has the glock 26..... I no longer have the xd. it was the bi tone and i think it was top heavy and had alot more muzzle flip. so.. my :twocents:
-
I also had the xd 9mm and sold it and bought a glock,
I think it is funny that some of you do not like the glock because it does not have a safety, a pistol should always be in a holster if you are carrying it and do you not trust your own trigger control :dunno:. Not trying to talk bad I'm just curious?
-
I've been carrying Glocks for many years and would not trust my life to anything else. That being said, I don't see anything wrong with the XD.
-
I have been packing a XD40 subcompact since they came out. Ive also sent down range tons of rounds with not one issue.
I have read a bunch of articals putting the XD subcompact against the Sigs and the Glocks and the Springfield came out on top.
Im not saying any of them are bad handcanons. I just really like the Springfield.
-
I have both
Glock 19, love it, shoots like a dream and feeds any ammo
Just picked up an XD-45, good reviews looks to be a good shooter, comfy to carry with the little plastic holster under a flannel shirt
-
I had a chance to try the glock last night with an inside holster and I really liked it. I just realized that Springfield came out with a sub compact XDM 40 model. I'm not 100% commited to eaither gun yet, still need to shoot the glock.
-
Not a big fan of Glock and I do have a sub compact XD 40 and love it
-
I own the XD-40 sub-compact and like it. Shoots good and comfortable to carry.
-
I have no experience with the XD, just the Glock. I felt the need to chime in and slightly defend the Glock with all this bad info flying around. The only time I have seen the slide catch skin is when the grip is wrong, ie thumb too high or in the wrong place. The Glock has three safeties, keep your finger off the trigger and the thing will never fire ( I have seen them thrown out of planes and drug behind trucks down dirt roads and not fire). The glock does have a round in chamber indicator, usually it is easy to miss unless you know what to look for. Personally I think this is a pointless thing, since a gun is always suppose to be treated as if it is loaded and what if you have to draw in self defense and the bad guy notices you chamber is empty?

BTW if you want to shoot some Glocks I have both the 23 and 27 (compact and sub compact 40) and live fairly close to Seattle.
