I believe my dad and i are going to go to Minot Peak this year, however, this is my first time hunting there. and wondering if it gets pretty busy? were going to be there for four days so i'm thining we'll be there long enough to get some chances with a bull.
Thanks, lou

I believe it is down south close to the doty, raymond area. Lots more people than elk
-
That makes sense as I never go in that area of the state.
-
There are a lot of elk in that area, and a lot of people too. Haven't hunted it in a few years but there used to be some walk in areas I would find before opening morning and get there well before light. Good luck, next weekend is going to be packed everywhere all over the state, find a spot and hold tight and wait for the elk to come to you is probably your best bet.

i hunted it quite a bit this year and all the elk were holed up in the thick stuff...hopefully people will get them pushed around for you...i havent hunted it modern but id imagine there will be alot more people to get them movin...they werent moving around much in the daytime where i hunted.

I have hunted the Minot Peak GMU for about 15 years for deer. Check the regs, Most of the unit is firearm restricted during elk season.
-
no, i know where the restricted area is at. Were pretty far away from it, my friend killed his cat there last year so i think were safe haha.
Thanks for the info guys. I think we'll just go for it and sit tight and hope for the best.

Stop at Clark's if ya want a good hamburger and a chocolate shake. Jeeze they're good!!!
-
oh man i know!! I stopped there over the summer after scouting in there and damn... it was good haha.
-
My huntin partners and I usually hunt N. River and either stay at the rv park/tavern down the road or the Monte Square Motel in Montesano and eat at Clarks then can't hunt after that cuz we're too damn stuffed!!! Good luck huntin down there.
-
haha yeah its great food.
Thanks a lot! you too!
-
been a few years since I have hunted there, but there was a lot of hunters back then
-
I've been doing the muzzy hunt down there for the last few years, no success but always see elk. Lottsa front stuffers down there. I can just imagine what it's like during modern. This year I'm doing modern but drew a cow tag for the Margaret so I don't think I'll be headed down that way. Gonna miss chow'n down at Clarks. Spose I could make a day trip down there just so I could have a chocolate shake.

does anyone know where there is a close spot to camp? I don't believe we'll can camp inside the gates.

There's an RV park just south of Clarks on 101 in Artic. They have camper and trailer spaces. Tavern there too. That's the only place I know of.
