WDFW want to know how you feel about them

My vote is cast.

I just got that email too. Voted!!

Thanks Kain. Be interesting to see if the survey (WDFW) looks like the surveys/breakdowns on here.

I voted...

I voted, I used huntnphool's Wild #, was that ok? :chuckle:

Don't be too shocked if it does not get passed, remember ANYONE can vote with a Wild ID#, not just bowhunters. 8)

Im not worried. The fact that this was sent out, is proof that there are a ENORMOUS amount of people who want it changed..
Its only a matter of time.
:)

Ok, you might be in for a little shock. Lots of folks on here just knew no one would want to elminate the east/west elk tags, but reading the comments on the surveys is quite eye opening. I don't think you will get the support of the rifleman or the muzzleloaders like you think you will, but you may be right and I may be spittin into the wind. Only time will tell. So if the survey comes back overwhelmingly against it, will that be the end of it? Probably not. :)

To be honest, its gonna be close.. because I know there is a bunch of die hards that want to keep things they way they are. But the very fact that this has finally gone to a poll, shows some genuine interest from a large group of bow hunters that want it changed.
I think you are wrong about the muzzy guys though.. many muzzy guys I know wish they could use 209s, ESPECIALLY the guys on the "WET-side".. and by getting the WDFW to allow technologically advanced mechanisms, like lighted nocks, means that is also a step towards allowing 209s someday.
Just my :twocents: :)

This was in the e-mail announcing the survey:
The link below will take you to the follow up survey. The survey is one question and should only take a minute. This is only being sent to hunters that would be regulated by a rule change. The deadline is November 16.
I wonder.........does this mean they are only sending it to hunters that would be affected by this rule change? Does this mean they are only sending it to folks who buy archery tags in other words? Rifle hunters would not be regulated by this rule change. I wonder how many on here who are not bow hunters will vote on this one.
Just thinking randomly.
-
That is a good thought Jackelope. I haven't bought an archery tag, but do buy the multiseason tag. So, was the intent to survey bowhunters or to survey hunters.
So, if the survey does show a large amount want the change, then what next? Will they possibly survey for splitting the archery season into primitive/modern archery?
-
voted. will be fun to see where this one goes

You may be right because I was not sent the survey on electric decoys for ducks. The problem is that Modern firearms season does allow archery as well as bear and cougar tag holders so they would have to send it to almost all hunters anyway.

Voted!
-
Good point Kain. I noticed the only survey I got was the east/west elk survey. And as I mentioned above I do use archery gear, but when I have multiseason tags. So I wonder if the survey will end up filtering all the Wild IDs that were sent the survey and only consider those? Or if all Wild IDs will be reflected.
-
I really don't see the harm in allowing lighted nocks............so I voted to allow the change.
Now, ML equipment is another story. No way should they change a thing with the ML equipment, except maybe to make it more restrictive (like sidelocks only) and no sabots, etc. :twocents: Wonder when they will have a survey on those issues? :dunno:
-
Voted.
-
Hmmm I was only "sent" one survey by the WDFW, however I've been voting on all the threads posted here?? Oops maybe? Interesting. Have we unwittingly screwed up their survey?
-
I feel special. I received both emails asking to respond to the survey's.

LOL :chuckle:

Done
-
I would be SHOCKED if they had that built into the process. Looking forward to hearing if they did.
-
I don't agree that a person voting on a certain issue needs to be a user of that equipment or species.
I duck hunted for many years but kind of got out of it over the last 10 years, but I think I still have a valid opinion on the motorized decoy issue and I may get back into duck hunting one of these years. And I'm thinking about getting into archery.......shouldn't my opinion count on archery equipment too?
I hunt with ML equipment a lot, but this year I decided to go with modern.......does that mean that I shouldn't have an opinion on ML equipment?
The surveys probably doesn't mean squat anyway though. Dave Ware will just lie about the results to fit whatever he wants the results to be anyway. :twocents:
-
I would be SHOCKED if they had that built into the process. Looking forward to hearing if they did.
:yeah: If they had that ability then they would have only allowed those ID numbers the opportunity to log in, just input those ID's with access to each specific poll, much easier than going back and trying to remove any non archery ID numbers. :twocents:
-
:chuckle: :chuckle: Because they will just say whatever numbers they want, that's how they will "fix" it. Sorry I don't mean to be so skeptical.
-
Lots of hunters can use archery equipment that do not buy an archery tag. Lets see there is modern firearms tags, multi season tags, bear tags, cougar tags, turkey tags, small game license, carp and pretty much anything else. So limiting this survey to only archery deer and elk tag holders is ridiculous.

:bs:
It would asinine to give people who don't give a damn about archery hunting the ability to affect the direction of the sport. Remember what the outcome was when people who didn't hunt or trap were asked to decide the direction of trapping, bear hunting and cougar hunting? Totally asinine...

I would agree with Curly. I think any/all should get to vote...BUT I think the results should have a good breakdown of how different voting groups are feeling. It should be weighted more heavily so the actual user group has most valid say, but all are somehow affected. In some cases, people voting may be wanting to move into that sport and are waiting for it to change enough to allow that. I think it would be perfectly fine for a person that has to use a crossbow during modern to have input into the regular archery season, if the presumption is archery will eventually allow crossbows (just an example).
-

Never have I seen a more concise example of why people who do not care about the integrity, the history, the challenge or the future of archery hunting should not be allowed to affect its' rules and regulations!

I agree with you about the bear baiting, using hounds for hunting, and trapping initiatives.......but that is a little different. Those issues shouldn't even be voted on, those are decisions that should be left up to WDFW not some moron that has absolutely no knowledge of hunting or game management. I bet if they left those initiatives up for a vote by WILD ID holders the outcome would have been different.
At least they are restricting the survey answers to those people with WILD ID's........
And I'm not saying that they should let people who "don't give a damn" about archery. I think every hunter probably cares about the sport and if they don't then hopefully they won't answer the survey. They will have a hard time weeding out the answers from someone who hasn't hunted archery from someone who has. The only way I can see them being able to ask questions like this from only archery hunters is for them to ask the survey question at the time you buy an archery hunting license.
-
I voted no. My FOC is out of whack enough as it is without adding 20 more grains to the back end.
J/k, I voted yes but probably won't ever use them for the FOC issue.
-
Even if they "weed out" those that did not archery hunt last year, the majority of archery hunters prefer modern forms of gear and will likely vote for them.

at 2:06 the shot in the almost dark... ethical? Would they have taken the shot without a luminok, as it does allow you to see the hit even after dark? That is my point. I think I will stick with Pope and Young on this one.
maybe not as dark to the naked eye :dunno: I bet buck fever had a huge play in that shot at 2:06.

Depends on tracking ability. If you're good at trailing and marking the hit, it seems ethical to me. If you absolutely NEED a bloody arrow and a 3 inch wide blood trail to find an animal...and the chances of the animal being lost are high...I'd say not ethical.
-
Would they have taken the shot without a luminok
No way to know, my bet would be yes they would have.
-
Voted yes
It still comes down to being an ethical hunter and following the rules. There are always going to be the *censored*s out there that will poach animals or shot them at night with or without these or you can choose to be an ethical hunter that follows the rules and just use them as a tool to better judge shot placement and arrow recovery.
-
Kain is right on the money, JUST because someone did not buy an archery tag this year does not mean they did not archery hunt. Bear, turkey, yotes, lion, rabbits etc....so hold on a little on the if they didn't buy an archery deer or elk tag then their opinion doesn't matter. ;)
-
P.S. I voted like a Demorcat, early and often using made up and dead peoples Wild ID #s, All NO votes. :chuckle:

I too agree with Curly.
Just cause I prefer to hunt deer and bear with a rifle does not mean that I don't have valid opinions or preferences on archery elk.
We all need to be involved in all aspects of the outdoors or we will be forever on the losing end.
-
Unfortunately the WDFW thinks there are only deer and elk hunters in WA and they like keeping us all divided in our little groups.

I suggested to Mr Ware that they ought to set their search criteria (easy to do if they wanted) to select only those individuals who had archery hunted both deer and elk for their past ten hunting seasons. That way knowledgeable bowhunters are the ones affecting the rules; people who have put in enough time to know what it is all about.
He replied, "...we would be accused of steering the results."
Let knowledgeable bowhunters direct bowhunting? I guess that would be too logical...
-
I usually agree with you, but not on this one. I know of a couple of dedicated bowhunters who only bowhunt, during the modern rifle season. There are also people, like myself who have been bowhunting bears every year. Archery deer and elk hunters are NOT the only dedicated bowhunters in WA. :twocents:

:yeah: also multi season tags are a prime example to not hunting archery for 10 years..

I hope this is a joke.
I think it is pretty arrogant to believe only deer and elk archery hunters have the right to have an opinion on this. And even more absurd to believe that you need a minimum of ten years to be a "knowledgeable" bowhunter. I have always found it to be true that the guy that will claim to be an expert is the one guy to watch out for.

If you look there is a thread of about 40 pages that discusses the pros and cons. ;)

Dear Washington Hunter:
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is currently in the process of developing hunting seasons for 2012-14. In August, the Department conducted public meetings and an online scoping survey and requested help identifying major issues that are important to address during the next three-year hunting season package. Over 3,000 people participated in the online scoping survey; the results are available on our website at http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/regulations/seasonsetting/ (http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/regulations/seasonsetting/) . We have reviewed the results and comments received and a few of the issues require an additional follow-up survey.
The link below will take you to the follow up survey. The survey is one question and should only take a minute. This is only being sent to hunters that would be regulated by a rule change. The deadline is November 16.

Note - depending on what species you hunt for you may receive invitations to participate in multiple surveys. Thank you for your time and your interest in managing Washington's Wildlife.

The problem with this sentence is that it is dishonest. This survey was only sent to deer and elk archery hunters. MANY others will be regulated by this change. Dave Ware is exactly right they are trying to steer the votes. Maybe some see that as good and others as bad but lets at least be honest about it.

Not true, I received it and I didn't purchase an archery tag for either deer or elk. I do have a multi-season deer tag though.

And that is why you are on my Christmas list, Machias. :chuckle: Of course there are some, like you, who buy the modern tag so that you can bowhunt during the modern season's time frame. But unless the harvest report asks what type of weapon was used the WDFW would have no way of knowing that you are a bowhunter. I have not bought a modern tag in the twenty-nine years I've lived in this state so I don't know what the report form asks, so I have to ask you: does the modern weapon reporting form ask the question of weapon type? Or do your bow kills go into the tally of modern weapons harvest?
And does the bear reporting form ask the same question?

We'll have to agree to disagree on this, Kain, because I don't understand why someone who doesn't have a dog in the fight should be able to permanently affect the rules of the endeavor of archery hunting. It is by its very nature supposed to be hard and a change like this is just a move to make it easier.

I don't believe they ask what type of weapon was used in the harvest. Awesome, I'm on at least one Christmas list!!! :hello:

I voted.
And I also voted with my feet in that I decided not to renew my Washington State Bowhunters membership. I am a former board member but now want no part of the organization so long as it has a board member that refuses to uphold the principles WSB was founded upon.

That is the problem we dont know who does or doesnt archery hunt just from what tag they buy. Cougars have had an archery season for a couple years now, did everyone that bought a cougar tag get the survey? And all other game allows archery hunting so limiting it to just deer and elk does not represent everyone. My problem with your statement was more to do with deer and elk hunters only and ten year="knowledgeable" hunter and everyone else has no right to have their opinion counted.
I really dislike this user group division that the department and some hunters keep pushing on everyone. I consider myself a hunter NOT an archery hunter or rifle hunter. I have hunted for 25 years. Most of those years I hunted deer and elk with archery equipment. My dad is having a hard time drawing his bow back anymore and we have discussed switching to muzzleloader. If I do that does that mean I shouldnt have my vote counted anymore? If I have not hunted archery every season for the last ten years does that mean Im not knowledgeable and should just be dictated to by those that "know what its all about"? Give me a break.
-
Cougars have had an archery season for a couple years now...
I'll be jiggered. I missed that change entirely.
