Here is an article recounting how a wolf advocate is approaching cities and trying to get them on board with wolves based on tourism.

I'm not sure I see the tens of thousands of "wolf viewers" in the stats. What a crock of crap. NPS survey stuff is so mushy that everyone seems like a "wolf viewer". when the park attendant asks "were you here to see wildlife?" and the tourist says "yep!" they get marked in the "wolf viewing" box and counted by the enviro groups...lame.

Some quotes from some like minded wolf advocates on another forum
http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=280966
"We must make this an insecure and inhospitable place for capitalists and their projects…. We must reclaim the roads and plowed land, halt dam construction, tear down existing dams, free shackled rivers and return to wilderness millions of tens of millions of acres of presently settled land."
—David Foreman, of Earth First!, and associated with Wildlands Project, Nature Conservancy, The Wilderness Society
"We advocate biodiversity for biodiversity’s sake. It may take our extinction to set things straight."
—David Foreman, Earth First!
"Human happiness, and certainly human fecundity, is not as important as a wild and healthy planets…Some of us can only hope for the right virus to come along."
—David Graber, biologist, National Park Service
"The collective needs of non-human species must take precedence over the needs and desires of humans."
—Dr. Reed F. Noss, The Wildlands Project

America is great because we export so much... Hopefully we could export these wackos to E asia and see how they do. :chuckle:

These people that are in favor of save the wolf hysteria hype are idiots. Just think if their livelyhood depended on raising cattle. All these wolves killing and eating their profits. I bet a dollar their attitude towards saving the wolf population would change. As for the Elk on the Hoh, give out alot of permits and have man control it. Friggin' idiots piss me off !!!

that logic seems bass akwards to me. seems that hunting would bring in more touism dollars & benifit the local communities more. How many wolves would need to be in an area for a tourist to actually have a chance of seeing one. How many hunters & supporting business would not be in the area if the wolf populations were decimating local populations. How many people would be out in wolf populated areas with thier kids or pets if more were made aware of the Hydatid disease? or once the stories of encounters with humans start surfacing?- tourism ?? dont think so!

Campmeat i think your logic is right, you just need to turn it 180Deg. Wolves are these people's livestock. They pimp themselves as stuarts or the wildand how the care so much. Take away the ability to make $$$ (Sue the Gov) and wolves will no longer be an issue. :twocents:
