Has anyone actually stopped their dogs from doing this? I have a client that is having a severe issue with this.

Tell him to quit feeding him people food. He is just trying to get the taste out of his mouth. :chuckle:
Neighbor had to use a shock collar to get his dog to stop.

This advice came from our Vet and solved our problem. After he "poops" pour a good amount of Tobasco sauce on the piles and leave it. Let him do his thing. Takes about a week or so to cure him for good.

Problem is, these are spaniels. They eat habeneros without wincing. Are you saying the fishing of the product causes a burning sensation?

There is a pill which helps with this problem. Talk to your vet. Sometimes true medical problems/deficiencies in vitamins are the cause. Some folks believe it is due to artificial flavorings/chemical compounds which mimic food smell/flavor in food which do not digest. Leaving the smell/flavorings in their poop because it won't break down completely like a natural compound. the chemical half/life is much higher than the ability of the dogs digestive system.
There are a myriad of wives' tales about tricks and this and that. The best is to just pick up the yard more often and correct the dog when you catch them doing it.
Spaniels are sensitive as it is so, folks who strap e-collars on dogs to correct them for a lot of what are just obedience issues end up ruining their dogs. If the guy doesn't want to go to the vet try a natural dog food with no artificial colors/flavors such as Costco's new fish and potato or Taste of the WIld. Costco's is about $15 cheaper a bag.

I have tried tabassco. Blk pepper bitter apple and the chewable pills they sell in pet stores. Nothing works better than picking it up asap

I spoke to a trainer at the sportsman show last year and he fixed my dogs. I cleaned up all the poop and left four or five piles in the back yard in a little mound. I put the shock collar on both labs of mine. When both had a mouthful, I gave them a buzz. Both of them got the point and haven't touched it in almost a year. Good luck.

sprinkle meat tenderizer on your dogs food. this has worked like a champ for me in the past.
