My father who has liver cancer was recently issued a terminally ill special permit for the above units any date, any weapon. Every year we hunt the general rifle entiat season and had planned on skipping that this year for the unit 290 (desert unit). Long story short after hunting the desert for a couple of days he found it to dificult to a manuever the sandy terrain do to his declining health. So we decided to skip that and hunt the entiat in the rut for the first time, where we will be able to drive in deeper than we could with the desert unit. My question is while I have done a fair amount of research regarding other areas I have not hunted them. I am wondering maybe if one of the others units mentioned would give him a better chance at a large buck. This will be his last season and I am really hoping to send him out happy on his last hunting trip. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I have nothing to offer you regarding these areas for hunting, but I do wish you and your father great memories in the deer woods that will stay with your family for generations to come. Have a great hunt with the precious time you have left. Tell your father hello and Good Luck from us.
-
Sorry to hear of bad news on health. For access and ability to see alot from the road I would say Entiat. It is starting to snow so bring the chains. Not sure if manuevering in the snow will be any easier than the sand. Good luck and I hope you make some great memories.
-
Sorry to hear about your Pops. I ma sure you guys have many hinting memories that will play over and over durring this last hunting season and will happy to add one more great momorie.
I would stay with Entiat look more towards the Crumb Canyon and Oklahoma Gulch area. Both produce fine bucks and are easily accessed.
Good luck :hello:
-
Very sorry to hear that. I wish I could help, but I do not know those units. Best of luck and I hope he smacks a giant!!!
-
Very sorry to hear. If I was in the position, I would start asking landowners.
-
sorry to hear that...I know there are some very knowledgable guys on here of the listed units that should be able to help u

sorry to hear this. Also didnt know they gave out these tags. Shoot me a pm, been in the unit the last three days. Let me know if there is anything i can do.

Thanks so much to everyone for the information. We are planning on heading up there Monday the 20th for a couple days. I will post some pics. Thanks again.
-
Just curious- how do you go about getting one of these tags? I have never heard of such a thing. Good luck on the hunt- I hope it works out well for you and your dad.
-
Me neither. Also the dudes first post. Think well hear back from him? Smells of :bs: to me. I lost a relative to liver.cancer this year and by the time it was terminal she would have been in no ability to hunt. I would guess this is a I didnt scout enough type of post.

Bean counter http://apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=232-12&full=true. Very bottom of the page. washington state law RCW 232-12-840. Also with liver cancer along with many other cancers there are stages. My father was a stage two. He possibly now is a three. Stage four is bed ridden and near the end. He is unable to have a transplant and unable to have treatment like chemo due to the fact that he has cirrohsis as well. This makes it terminal. I dont know how he came across this tag I didnt ask him, I assumed it was in the regulations packet but it wasnt or at least i havnt been able to locate it. I understand the doubt. Neither of us have heard of this tag either.

(3) The director may make agreements with landowners to provide access for special hunting and fishing opportunities.
(4) The director may also make agreements with others to assist the terminally ill in facilitating the harvest or catch of fish and game.

Thanks for the info.

Wow, WDFW may have a soul?
I hope this isn't some scam, but I am a sucker. I truly hope that this is true (telling the truth) and as such will extend my help to the family if I can.

I understand the doubt, tomorrow when i see my dad ill post pics of the documents.

It's a legit program. Several tags get issued every year for terminally ill individuals.
-
Thanks muzzlebuck. I hope he does too. He gets to go modern firearm and he does have til the 31st of december so hopefully it will work out.
-
I understand the doubt, tomorrow when i see my dad ill post pics of the documents.
Don't feel like you have to just because a couple richard craniums question you in this matter. Screw 'em!!
Bust of luck to you and your Dad on a successful hunt and more importantly the quality memories you will carry with you of this opportunity for the two of you.
-
Good luck to you and your dad!
Please post up those success pics!

I just wish people would do a little research before posting comments on some of these posts!
I wish i could help out but have never stepped foot in any of those units. Good luck to you and your dad!
-
Well i for one never heard of it. But i do not doubt it at all. Good luck.

His first post made you think BS, and your 1856th post made me think, *censored*

I have heard of this tag in other states but did not know it exhisted in WA. state.
I feel Bobcats question was legit and and asked correctly but the other comment was way off base :bdid:
Keep us up todate on his tag. I wish I could help more but I gave the best info I could and I have an elk to kill next week ;)
Good Luck :hello:

That is funny and I hope you and your dad have success with the hunt but I am thinking the time spent together will outlast the deer harvested ;)

Apology:
It would have been good to know more information about the hunt in question before posting. Also, the fact that I lost a relative to liver cancer this same year doesn't make it any less painful to someone going through the process right now. In reviewing my post I can see that venting an ostensibly valid frustration (explained below) with what is most likely a tragic situation for a fellow American came off as insensitive. To that end, I am sorry to the OP and anyone else offended for what could be seen as callous remark.
Reiteration:
What I do not apologize for is being short with first time posters who come here asking for broad information about a hunt and usually are never to return again. I know I'm not the only person who feels this way so we can reopen that debate either here or elsewhere if desired. We seem to have this conversation at least once a season. I am frustrated that some on here feel free to rattle off spots that they may no longer care about but some other hunters may have worked hard over years to learn the same spots and now they are dimed out for the horde of lazy hunters to view for all time. This is is apples and oranges from helping out those who are a part of our community here who usually contribute as much as they ask for.
In addition, I think its very valid to be cautious of the stories thrown out by first timers. Its reasonable to consider that many lurkers can see the cold shoulder response that some get for this practice so they attempt to garner sympathy by referencing a an aging relative / being deployed overseas / losing a job / you get the idea. To keep my frustration to a minimum I'm not going to tell newcomer about my old honey hole regardless of what story he shows up with.
To draw a parallel from life, I think of panhandlers on the side of the road. I'm not interested in what their cardboard sign has written on it. I'm not giving them any money, even if the 45 year old holding the sign has "Disabled Nam Vet" written on it or not. There are far more dignified ways of getting what they want than doing what they're doing. If that makes me a 'Richard Cranium,' so be it.
OK, let me have it...
-
Good luck to you and your dad in his possibly last year of hunting hope the hunt gods bless him with a hog and tons of memories!
For the other posts: There is no reason to drag this thread down that road :bdid: ! remember what this site is capable of and the awesome things we can accomplish as a group! :hello:

For the most part Bean, good post.
Sorry for your loss to cancer this year. :(

Lets hear some updates!
-
Quick update: Went up there and saw a lot of small bucks and a lot of archery hunters for the special permit season. I did see one monster. He was out past his ears and real tall. A very nice 4 point. He was probably 29 or 30 wide. Unfortunately there were six archery hunters putting a stalk on him. So we let them do there thing and moved on. Also saw two of the biggest 2 points I have ever seen. If We see either one of them again one of them is gonna end up on the wall. We are heading back up there on the dec. 1st through the 4th. I really feel like this will be the time that we get a good buck maybe even a monster. Thanks to everyone for their support. Will post updates at the end of the week hopefully with pics of a trophy. Thanks to everyone for their help.

I would hope nobody would start a thread pretending that their father has terminal cancer. Lets give him the benefit of the doubt and some respect. I hope the hunt goes well! If I had information to offer on the area I would be sure to send you a PM. good luck!

axlepup pm sent

Very sportsmanlike of you guys for not going afterthe big one and messing up those bowhunters hunt. I bet you guys have a great hunt this week when you return. Looking forward to your updates. I'm happy you are making the best of this hunt yourselves and enjoying the end time together as father and son, instead of turning it into a big posse thing. If it gets to a point you need more help, holler. If not me, there are a couple of guys on here that I am sure would help in a heartbeat.
-
Hope all goes great! I have been in that unit a handfull of times, not really knowlagable there,,sorry. There are some dandy bucks, go get em!

Good luck guys and take lots of pics..

Didn't see you post until today but I would avoid the Entiat because 48 archery hunters are in there. The Chiwawa unit would be may focus and I would go up on Tyee Ridge (left just past Ardenvoir).

48 is nothing for the size of the Entiat.

Well After hunting thursday and friday all we saw was several two points and a couple small four points. The second of the two points was the same one that i had seen several times on out last trip. He is quite wide and as far as a two point he was quite impressive. We decided on saturday morning that if we saw him we would take him. Fortunately we didnt see him. We caught this big guy instead. It was a long shot and it was a lot of work dragging him out of there by myself. My dad just wasnt able to get up the hill but that was fine i was more than happy that he got a nice one and more than willing to all the hard work. He is a 27 inch 4x4. A real trophy in our eyes. I wanna thank everyone for the support and their help, especially jburkett who told me there was a big one in that area. Not sure if this is him but big thanks either way. hope the pics are clear enough.
