One buddy shoots a bighorn also but with musket cap so I used his spare #11 nipple on my gun, lasted three shots and mushroomed out the tip to were a cap wont fit on. :bdid: :sry: Now I owe him a new nipple and i need one :bash: any suggestions appreciated and my breach plug and nipple are screwed all the way tight

Couple of thoughts… and remember I am starting from scratch – pull the bp and inspect it with the nipple out – is the flash channel completely open? Then check the breech end of the bore is there anything that might not allow the bullet to completely seat on the powder?
Re-assemble and just pop some caps with the muzzle very close to the ground… do you see any sparks coming out of the barrel?
After popping caps does the nipple looked damaged at all?
What load are you shooting when the problem occurred?
Might look at this thread.

Just thinking out loud…

Huntitup, this is pretty common for a knight. Had the problem myself at least twice. I would recommend you go with a musket nipple. The wall on these are thicker and less prone to cracking and mushrooming. The musket nipple is also a more efficient ignition source. Or you could carry an extra #11 nipple in your possibles bag. Good luck.
