Title: Back in the saddle again
Post by: addicted on November 23, 2011, 02:22:00 AM
Went to the stand this morning study my PDG and just when i was thinking about heading home around 0830 i heard something spooked coming my way. I put down my PDG and picked up the rifle while turning to see a reh run into a little opening on my right about 45 yards away. She stopped and a kitz ran in behinder  .... It was go time.

Before i could turn accross my body(being right handed out the right side shots can suck) she pegged me. Both ears up and eyes right on mine. I was halfway covered by some camo netting so i froze in place and squinted at her for probably a good 20 seconds before she had enough and started to bark at me and circle away.

I got into position quick, put my crosshairs on the kitz and BOOM the 8mm barked. The kitz reared back and fell over not to take another step. The geist looked  at the kitz then looked up at me and started barking and stomping from behind some sticker bushes. Not to be outdone, My 8mm barked back and there a sudden silence.  8mm FTW.  :IBCOOL:

checked the deer then began the treck back to the truck where I met my forster. Headed back to the house and Retrieved my trailer hitch basket, camera, and the dogs. Took the dogs back to the deer and proceeded to take some crappy photographs and gut them out. They now hang in the cherry tree infront of my forsters house cooling.

Waidmannsheil.  Gotta love a twofer.  What are your per Kilo costs up there?  Re and Kiz are bad down here right now.  Shot a 11 Kilo kitz last Friday and payed  just over 68 Euro.  But man aren't theysome good eating?

Waidmannsdanke

i havent bought one fromt the rhineland phalz forstampt yet but i see a lot of prices on different reviers 4-6 euros per k on the hoof.

with the holidays coming these two will be sold easy.

Cant think of a much bigger confidence booster for the big hunt this weekend than hitting a double play on the home field. I'm super excited for the big hunt this weekend, might have even fiddled with attaching a video camera to my rifle.  ;)

Is this the Hohenfells hunt?  I was going o go this year but the wife and I are moving into a new place and the move in fees here are crazy.  I plan to go and sit for pigs in one of my reviers though.  Then in two weeks I have a drive hunt that I was invited out for.  Hope to get the first Wildschwein of the fall.  Freezer is getting low.

Waidmannsheil for the upcoming hunt.

no this is the hessen nato hunt in knullwald. last year we had about 75 hunters and by time i left we had recovered 119 pieces of game.

Hohoenfells is december 15-16 so i've only got 3 weeks till that one.  :IBCOOL:

i'll see if i can get your name down for a hunt over here next time i get on a local shindig.

i hung the gut piles a few feet off the ground in some trees and i sat over them tonight as it got dark i heard a fox coming ing(eventually you can identify by foot steps) so i picked up the rifle and fliped on the camera. He was staying in the brush just far enough that i didnt feel comfortable pulling the trigger. eventually he broke between 2 trees and i pulled the trigger......dead fish, i forgot to put a round in the chamber.  I jacked one into the chamber and continued to track the fox through the brush as he circled away. It didnt seem that he was onto me but he definately swung wide. He came around on the other side of the set and circled between me and the pile when it looked like he was about to zero in i got a chance and pulled the trigger. He flopped then got up screamed and started zig zag into the brush. It didnt sound like he went far.

I gave him 20 minutes and went looking with the flashlight but couldnt find him. we'll see in the morning.

How late was it?  Do you have  a decent light source in the area?  It was pretty dark down here this weekend.

PDG and Kitz?  Must be in germany? Can you explain what kitz and pdg is? Cause it kinda looks like kitz = yearling.  :dunno:

I can't speak for the Air Force but I think the PDG is his study guide for advancement.
As for Kitz (fawn) and Reh do a search for Roe Deer and you will get the info.  That is what they are called in English.  They are all over Europe and the venison on them is great.  Fun deer to hunt too.  Josh and I are only about 2 hours drive apart and the hunting of them different in the two areas.  All from a stand but up where he is located they will come out in the fields.  Where I am at it is more like hunting blacktails in some good dense forest.

PDG= professional development guide.  It's part of the material i am tested on for seargant. Test tomorrow.

I've got a couple reh on the stalk but generally the high seat makes for a safer shot with the bullet going into the ground for a back stop

thanks Tim

you should shoot craig wiley an email and see if anyone backed out of the hohenfells hunt so you can get in.  I'll have a rifle for you if you need one.

I got another rifle I just will be in the process of Painting a house we will be moving into.  I will see what I can do though.  I was thinking about hiring a german friend of mine.  This might just be the reason to do so.

As for the rifle thanks for the offer but I finally got one and it only took about 3 months to have it put on my WBK.  It took forever this time.
