Steel poisoning looks to be the cause of death, but thats just a guess. :chuckle:

HCH88, do you have another picture of the head and userside. Does the head have some brown in it? It looks to me that you have a Leucistic Mallard Drake there. If it is one, you have a fairly rare bird there. Congrats on getting one. John

yes it does have some light chocolat brown on the top of its head, its underside looks normal i think just white. what is a leucistic mallard exactly? and how rare is it? like mount it rare or just kinda rare? lol
-
Leuistic ducks are rare, although I think the hens are a lot more common than drakes. It looks like it could be a lueistic mallard to me, but its hard to say for sure. Nice shoot by the way :hello:

A leucistic duck is a duck where its pigmentation cells fails to develope the correct way, which causes the different feather colors. When you do see a Leucistic duck, they are usually a hen. If your bird is a leucistic mallard drake, then it had to have a leucistic mother which is also a peler color than a normal mallard. The mother had to have been lucky enough to avoid predators (due to the light color) long enough to raise her babies.
Her mate , which might have appeareed to be normal in color, but he had to have carried that trait as well to have a leucistic son. That will give you an idea of how rare your bird really is. I would very carefully take care of that bird and get it in the freezer as soon as you can and then decide if you want to get it to your Taxidermist or not.
