Drove to a new spot today-- hunted it hard from 7 until about 4-- got in the car ate a sandwich before heading home. Notice some movement in the rear view mirror-- #$!@$ deer crossing the road behind us
from our hunting area to somebodies front yard.
crap.

The last buck my dad shot ...... it was fairly early morning and we met up after sitting in our stands to discuss a plan. He decided he was gonna head back to camp to get breakfast started, which was fine with me
We weren't more than a 10 minute walk to camp, so I just stayed put, figuring I'd let him get to camp and let the woods "quiet down" before I started still hunting my way through a nearby woodlot. I ate a sandwich, looked at my watch .... 10 minutes had passed. Stood up and hear KA-BOOMTHWACK from the direction of .... no, from IN camp. Hustle over there, dad is gutting a buck. He got to camp, threw some wood on the fire, looked up and there stood his buck, 50 yards away.
Over the years I've learned that not only do they show up when you least expect it .... they in fact make a habit out of doing so

My hunting partner is sick of the 'he'll be standing between us and your truck' line... hasn't happened yet, but that'll be my luck.
