I just bought a weatherby 257 magnum and im not really familiar with optics just lookin for what some good buys might be on a good scope as well as rings and bases.
-
I've got a Pentax 4x16x50 Gameseeker with Dednutz mounts on my 257 Weatherby.
-
Leupold vx 3 4.5-14-40mm and leupold bases. solid setup for my 257

The lack of feild of veiw on 4.5 makes that one of my least favorite leupolds. I like the 14X at longer ranges but the veiw at 4.5 leaves a lot to be desired for close range work.
I topped me .257 with a VX-III 3.5X10 W/M1's and think it's about its just right.

Wat kind of game you guys take down with the 257? I have been relyibg on my 270 wsm for my deer rifle but i like the 257 so i picked one up.

I have done a 4-12 swaro, 4-16 4200, 3-9 4200, burris ff2 in a couple sizes. I like the size of a 40mm obj. I like the fov of 9ish power on top. I use my Roy to stock pile coyotes, deer and have taken elk with it also. I really don't need much magnification over 9-10x for anything other than paper over 500ish.

Primarly deer, I've killed a couple of yotes with it. I'd load TSX's or the like for elk and I wouldnt feel unerguned in the least.

Got a Pentax 3.5 x 10 on mine
crazy shooting gun
anything I have pointed it has died
One trip to WY
2 antelope one 3pt mulie
110 grain bullets
I would hunt anything in North America with it

Close range with a 257 Mag? I thought they didnt' work at less than 300 yards? :chuckle:
I have a 257 with a Nikon 5-20x on it. I am considering switching it out for my Leupold 4.5x14 CDS. I think a 257 deserves at least 12x or 14x magnification at the top end. Too much magnification on a hunting rifle can be an issue due to the very limited field of view, particularly if you're shooting at an animal with others nearby.
