Title: snowgoose bow kill
Post by: jeepster on November 27, 2011, 09:51:26 PM
today, i left the house at 520 and headed out to fir island to do some snowgoosin'. i was a little late showing up on scene around 6am, as most of the quality hunts were occupied, but i managed to find a hunt site and set up shop. the weather was awesome (non-waterfowlers would say it was down right miserable), and there were birds flying... i set up my 24 dekes, and only honked when honked at.... around 9ish, a flight came in, and i drew my bow (i left the gun at home), lead a bird by about a foot and a half, and fired.... needless to say, arrow and bird fell together. i whacked a snowgoose with an arrow in mid air. i am still in disbelief.... but... a picture is worth a thousand words.....right?  :IBCOOL:

sorry for the crappy picture, as i have a pos phone... at least it has a camera.

edit: some go to church on sunday monrings... personally, i like to spend mine hiding in a farm field drainage ditch pretending im invisable making bird noises....

bad azz!

my first bow kill on the wing was a drake bufflehead, alot of dumbluck was involved. your success sounds a bit more premeditated.... I might have to take the old bowtech out one of these days and try for a sky carp.

Those QH fields are pretty small.  Best make sure the neighbors aren't to close.   :chuckle:  Way to whack a snow.  I did this years back with a recurve and canadas.  It was a blast, but I took 2 dozen arrows with me.

how far do the flu flu's fly with a compound??  i always wondered if my reezen would make them impossible to find.

i missed a few good flights cuz i was worried about how far the fluflus went but i zipped one off at about a 10 deg. angle and it landed maybe 75 feet away, then i got currious about how far i could shoot a fluflu (going for distance) it went a max of 220 feet, probibly less.....thats with me using a 60lbs alpine. im going to up the poundage for some extra distance i think, but sitting in the middle of QH field, i wouldnt hesitate to sling fluflus in any direction....except straight up.... ive had more fun with a bow in one day than i did with a shotgun all year. im thinking about getting a recurve, tryin to call birds and attatch a release with the same hand and then shoot sure is a pain!

I have a few arial disks I made out of foam. Me and a couple other guys shoot these with our recurves. By far the funnest time I have had shoting a bow. I'm having a hard time going back to the compound. I need to get out and try it on some live birds. I was surprised at how well you can do after leaning the lead.

thats awesome i've thought about doing this a bit, i can shoot moving targets in the air but haven't tried birds yet, i will have to pick up some of those arrows and see what i can do.
