Title: What rifle do you use for predators
Post by: Hunting7mm on December 05, 2011, 06:10:44 PM: I use an R25 .243 Nikon 3x12sf with a RRA two stage trigger. I'm shooting a sierra gameking 85gr. HPBT with 43.0 gr. of reloader 17. I'm getting 3029 fps. with 1/2" groups at 100yds.

That happens to be one of the best things going for predator hunting, they tend to be very accurate and pretty guns don't kill any better. I picked up a Savage mdl 11 gun/scope package in 243 at BiMart, brought it home, scrubbed the bore and hosed it down with Krylon camo spray paint, looks great. Shoots great and kills coyotes dead, best 300 bucks I could ever spend.

got the stevens 223 also with just the cheap 3-9 scope it came with its a good shooter im shooting the honady v max bullets loaded withe varget. looking for anew scope though something with turrets and would love a thumb hole stock but cant find one anywere.

Savage keeps them all pretty similar. I don't mind the stock but wish it was bedded so I could use a tricep strap. It doesn't take much pull trying to steady for offhand shots before I watch the entire action/barrel/scope tilt to the left.

Longrangehunter, is that tape? Been toying with painting mine myself. Form follows function for me so I'm not afraid of painting it, just gotta find out what to use that won't rub off too quickly.

ya thats tape i just put it on the other day havent been out in the weather with it yet but it seems like it should stay on prety good

I have been thinking about getting another one because I LOVE MINE SO MUCH :IBCOOL: I use to run a bolt when I first started but after a few years I really started liking the ar advantage. I also pack a shotgun 90% of the time on all my stands. I have shot a lot of yotes with a shotgun.

Try Boyds Stocks or STOCKYSSTOCKS, they will have what you need.

Post by: Hunting7mm on December 05, 2011, 09:13:31 PM: The reason I got the .243 was just in case your calling, and something comes in that you have a tag for but need the larger caliber to be legal. I call in units and areas with lots of timber. Not alot of open land where I live.

I dont know if that makes any sense to anyone but paint added some character

But I use the Rem 870 the most since I hunt a lot in a firearms restricted unit and always in heavy cover.
