I was lucky enough to draw a hound permit in Idaho for 2012 and will be running my hounds for lions there this winter! I'm pretty excited to get out this year becuase I've got a couple new pups and two 4 yr old dogs that are doing well.
I'll have a wolf tag in my pocket and if, at any time, I cut fresh wolf tracks I'll be changing tactics and going after them. :)

HAHA- I don'e know if I'll shoot a cat or not. I might if it's a HUGE one. I'm more interested in working the hounds.
Wolves will be a priority,. I want one of them in the worst way! :)

I know nothing about hounds. How do you keep your hounds from getting on wolf tracks and having them run into a bad situation for them? I've always wondered that. Good luck!
-
My dogs are pretty straight and don't generally run coyotes or wolves...I wish I could tell you how that happened but I didn't have to break them of those two...moose and elk are a weakness for the little black and tan! :chuckle: I've had to melt her earwax a few times with the e collar to break her of them.
The new pups will be trashy- they always are. Hopefully the older dogs will stay straight when the pups blow up on a moose track!
Deer are less of a problem because we get so many in the yard the dogs learn to ignore them.
-
Good luck to you, hope your able to run a bunch over there. Is that black and tan dog one of the dogs Jerred ran for a bit she looks familiar.
-
Mine always have to be broke off moose, they must smell really good!!
-
No he didn't hunt her- he hunted that blackmouth cur in the pic with her. I bred the B&T to his red and white dog- Moose. Maybe that's where you saw her?
She's a cat only dog...absoultely WILL NOT run a bear...strange.

Sounds like you need to find a hunting partner with a 308 FAL and a 1911 side arm!

I wanna go. I've got an Idaho wolf tag, only good till 12/31/2011. I'd love to kill a wolf. Also, I'm very good at keeping you entertained. What about costs, lodging, tips etc ? I could take pictures too. I've got a nice Nikon D 60, a Sony HD movie camera and even a gun. Oh, I've got a real nice ATV............... :chuckle:

aS THEY SAY,,, "Smoke a pack a day."
A wolf needs a lot of veneson each week ..so does a cat. heard ofa lot of sightings - no shots in Nov.
good luck.

Congrats! Always wanted to go to Idaho to hunt cats and dogs!
Great looking dogs. Good luck with the cats. Just be careful with your dogs around the wolves. Wolves don't like hounds.
A good friend of mine used to guide cat and bear up north of Bonner's Ferry. He told me that, and he had some really good dogs.

Come on over! I use a snowmobile, but with the snow conditions being so lousy a wheeler would be perfect for the low stuff. Bring a camera and some good luck.

Nice cat Bart. Did you kill it ?
-
nah- I had a pursuit tag in WA a couple years ago. We got a bunch of good pics but never killed one. It was a wonderful way to train a hound...sadly they have eliminated that option for hound hunters too... :bash:

Nice photos!!

Hopefully hounds will be legal for harvesting cats one day...

cat hunting is tough. put bells on your dogs

Cool pictures that sounds like a great hunt

Good luck to you and your dogs on a safe and successful hunt, hope you cut the tracks of a nice Tom cat, your dogs burn it, get your Lion, and then go bag a wolf.

My butcher's friend lost his hounds to a wolf pack in idaho a couple of years ago. He tried to get there in time, but the wolf pack killed his dogs. :'(They where trained not to fight each other so they didnt fight back. They were good dogs. So Bill gave his friend the two dogs he had, because he didn't hound hunt anymore. Bill's dog are good Cat and Bear dogs. Well good luck and be safe out there. Shoot a wolf and Cat and post the pic's

Keep safe man and best of luck to you

It wouldn't make a bit of difference if they did fight back. In fact I bet they did. Them not fighting each other has no effect on whether they would fight a yote or a wolf. Trust me, I've seen enough photos of hounds torn in half and killed by a pack of wolves to know, it's no contest what so ever.

I think they may try to get it back again, hopefully we have a big change in politicians so that can happen.
