Several R and D Senators sponsored SB 5986 today which would allow the use of the WDFW Vehicle Access Pass on DNR lands. As of right now the WDFW Pass is only valid on WDFW lands, in order to access many DNR and Park lands you need the Discover Pass.

Now before everyone gets all happy. There are literally thousands of bills introduced every year, some don't even make it to committee. So don't go calling this a success just yet.
-
Now if they would introduce a bill that would make it good for state park fishing access also that would make happy. OK I am a dreamer.....but I'm not the only one........
-
if everyone on here bugs them every day I bet it will eventually get a vote!
-
Keep your fingers crossed for common sense.

excellent post, thankyou for the info, fingers are crossed....
-
I'm happy to at least see it being introduced.
WDFW posted a message on their Facebook page the other day advertising Discover Passes as a good idea for a Christmas gift. That went over well :chuckle:

We need everyone to e-mail their representatives in support of this bill. The more times they hear it and bring it up, the mord likely it is to move forward.

The discover pass needs a major overhaul (or chuck it completely). Sounds like the one fix that has the best shot is to make it transferable between vehicles. I would like to see them make it only for Developed sites--places where $$ is actually spent on recreation facilities--not bogus "designated" TImberlands that only are on-paper as recreation areas. They need to also make it a parking pass ONLY, none of this stupid driving with a hang tag. What a joke, and a danger too, having guys driving on roads between State-Forest Service-county-BLM with that dorky faded hangtag. Just the Geek factor probably keeps guys from buying. Make it mesh with the current Forest Service NW forest Pass we are already familiar with. THey need to go back to the drawing board. I would get rid of the wdfw pass, and just have one that is good for everything, and comes with hunting/fishing license.

I think many of you forget the ACTUAL purpose of the DP. The purpose is to take $$$ from hunters and fishermen who are willing to PAY for recreation and use that money to provide funds for people who DON'T! :twocents: Fact, Parks need $$$ they aren't cheap to run and keep up. Most parks users are lower income using the park as a free outing. (Nothing wrong with that IMO). About 10 years ago a $5 parking fee made attendance drop like a rock. The state doesn't think its important to fund parks, They couldn't get enough people to "donate" $5 while buying tabs, and Hunter and Fishermen went out of thier way NOT to buy the DP! So is there a kind of pass you all would buy to fund parks? Not me because as a hunter i'm tired of being looked at as a cash cow and not a customer! :twocents:
