I need clarification, is the "Most Coyotes In 12 Hours" for the team or for a member?
It has also been suggested that this can be for any members who are hunting together for 12 hours.

Here's 4 for SBA. All were shot inside of 100 yds. The closest was 56.

It is funny you would mention that Varmintventalator,I would of missed alot more if old Gringo wouldn't of be such a dog hog today. I will post up the pics from today when I get home. It was one of the best days of hunting I have ever had. All kidding aside what could be better than a couple of buddy's hunting together, & having everything come together to make a wonderful day out in the outdoors.
-
In all honesty, Swag did some good shooting today.......But at one point I had twice the dogs of shots he fired....and he had fired 3 rounds. I'll say that he made a good finish....
-
All I want to say is I feel really bad for not being able to be part of the best hunting day my partners (swag/gringo) have had. Sorry guys but I am stuck in Arizona till Monday. The upside is I will be back and then on vacation for a couple long days with high expectations for my self. Keep up the outstanding work team Dogpile! :IBCOOL:

Okay, here goes.... what a great day..
I was kind of feeling like I was going to stay at home today, & do some honey dues since it was pretty foggy... After having breakfast with the wife, I gave ol Gringo a call just to see what the chance's it wasn't foggy out his way. After talking with him for a few it was apparent he was having one of those mornings with work. :bash: I figured it was a good excuse to load up & head his way to lend a hand. Well by the time I got out there he had work sorted out & was convinced we needed to try & take a dog or two.
This is where my frustration began, we started at 8:30 & by 10:30 when he had to run back to work to dill with some issues he was up by 5 dogs... :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:
After we stopped by & grabbed some lunch it was time to even up the score... Not so much. >:( >:( The next 3 dogs seemed to always come to his side... Finally I got a chance took the shot dog went down & when I went to retrieve it I herd it get up from in the brush. I was down the hill below it & could not see him as he was running away on 3 wheels. Thank goodness Gringo had a good angle & was able to put him to sleep...
Off course the next one was Gringo's again... :dunno: Finally the last 3 just feel into place for me & I was able to actually use my rifle... :chuckle:
What a day we couldn't believe it, we swung by & picked up Gringos camera & his boys were so exited they wanted to hold or team cards..
Gringo had 1 from the day before, & he managed to lock down 9 :yike: thats right 9 today & I was able to get 4.

The problem with posting all the pics at once is that we lose the ability to tell the stories behind them or I just forget which dog when with which story. BUT, thanksgiving morning Swag and I went out and had a great day. On one of the stands with me doing all the shooting so far (including a non excusable miss) this dog comes over the top of a ridge coming in very nicely. It stops at around 180 yards and I'm thinking "good enough for me" but I'm feeling guilty of being "the dog hog" (as I'm called now and again) so I show some self control and painfully sit and watch a standing dog under 200 yards. He keeps coming and stops this time about 80 yards. I'm waiting for Swag to take him as he and are are sitting about 20 yards apart both facing the same way. In reality, I probably only waited 10 seconds or so but I couldn't take it any longer and planted him, only to look up and over at Swag and see him not looking so happy with me. I ask, "Why didn't you shoot?" and he tells me, "he would have kept coming....".
So for you guys out there, where do you draw the line? For me, I've had way too many dogs come in hard that either come and leave as hard as they come in or I have trouble getting them to stop. All this comes down to if they are within 100 yards and standing still, I have very little restraint. :dunno:
How do you guys who hunt together sort this all out. Frankly, I don't care who or when someone shoots (on a single) as long as they don't miss :chuckle: If they do, they might be getting some crap..... :hello:

Some more for TDF. That one Doug is with was called in and shot on NOV1st and the other That i'm with was a dog I spotted from the road and went over the hill got out called and shot it at 100 yards when it came to see what was making that neat sound. I think that puts TDF @ 29. waiting for JJB11B to send me the picture of the one i shot this AM i'll post it up when I get it.
-
Got this little guy this AM. No good dtory he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. JJB11B called in a pair aand shot one but it took off. We followed blood for over a mile and never caught up to it. Lost the trail in a big brushy draw. This makes 30 for TDF. Th ought I would bust out with this *censored* pose for this picture.

Hell I best start packing a camera :dunno: Set up in a potateo field this morning and started calling and I look across the field and see 4 running dead at me ...This is a firearm restricted area :bash: So I had my .22 mag again So anyways they get about 150 yrds and all sit there looking at me ...for about 5 minutes ....it was a cool picture ...In stead of educating them I let them all walk off.... If I only could have killed all the ones I have seen :dunno: This rifle restriction sheet is killin me .....

Sorry to be a party-pooper, guys, but I got word from my sister that Mom is real bad, so I'll be flying out to Mass. tomorrow. Predatorpro should be able to pick up the slack, now that I won't be here for a while to jinx him. :chuckle:
I'll be back right after New Years, so the yote hunting should be hot by then. Taking my laptop, so I'll be able to check on the goings on occasionally.

That is a good example of a dog I've been after for awhile and a new dog that has moved in. Many of the first dogs I've shot were all good haired. After you clean them out, it seems about 2 weeks later the ugly smaller dogs move in as they are looking for ground of their own. They are not as Wiley but also don't seem to do well to howls.....too timid.
-
That's a real nice looking dog Gringo!!
-
this contractor has 3 more days of work and I do not plan on doing much sleeping  and Gringo maybe you need to take a few days off ........ :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :tung: :dunno: :sry:

:yeah:
Don't see too many texas heart shot coyotes on here :chuckle:
-
Well and it still looks alive...points are only for dead coyotes :chuckle:
-
Well I best clarify the situation ....First off you never run dead away from Bowhunter :chuckle: :dunno: Secondly I called in two this day and they were running down an old gated road at me then all the sudden the wind shifted and they did a 360 and headed back up the road so I took a deep breath and as soon as the crosshairs lined up with the back of its head I squeezed and all I saw hair and snow flipping around in the snow .. O WELL I HIT LOW :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Falfire,Looks like you finally got enough for a fur coat :chuckle:

Falfire shoots the best at night, it's when he can actually see his target that he has problems. :IBCOOL:

Nice job FF and VV!
-
Falfire,Looks like you finally got enough for a fur coat :chuckle:
Actually, I'm doing seat covers for ma' pickum'up truck
Hey VV. is right, ain't no joke, it's either got to be running it's a$$ off or, at night, maybe I just focus a little more under pressure. :dunno: But let me tell ya, there is big pressure on when VV is on the glass, dogs don't really stand much of a chance when he touches one off at fur waaaaaay out there. Of course I did put the smack down on the one a few days ago at 297. The new Tikka is knocking them over pretty well and still looking to best my 553 yard dog from earlier this year.
The other night I shot one at 174 yards while VV held the flashlight but I'm still trying to get the 200 plus yard night shot, just ain't happed yet. Then I shoot one today in broad daylight at 399 yards, I connected but just a little too far back and possibly low, lost that dog in the weeds. :bash: I hate that! Hell, it's probably still runnin' with it's guts a draggin'

Team Smoke'Em total= 1 (yup, that's right, 1)
Well, chalk one up for team Smoke'Em finally.
Myself and OneShotOneKill headed out yesterday, (lot's of sign) and after a number of failed stands, decided to head to a different location. During our drive, we discussed how the sun was starting to poke through the clouds, and were hoping that this would entice some coyotes to head out and look for some little morsels that may be taking advantage of the warm suns rays. About halfway to our next area, OneShot started to have what I thought was a seizure, but turned into a tantrum about a coyote trotting across a stubble field. I stopped the truck to check it out, and we decided to give the house a try. Luckily someone asnswered the door, and halfway through our introduction, he says, "hey, there's a coyote out in the field". I told him that is why we stopped, and we were told that we better shoot it before he does. So we both grab our gear and head out to a corner fence where we can get a bead on the dog. During our run out, I about took a dirt nap from twisting my ankle in a hole but recovered without too much damage. (Nothing a little Blue Moon couldn't fix last night). Finally, we both have the dog in sight, and almost simultaneously, we both fired. It looked to both of us that maybe we had both missed. :bash: and allowed the dog to find a hiding spot. Thankfully though, we had both hit it. I barely skimmed across back, possibly hit the spine :dunno: and OneShot took out it's throat with his 7mm. :mgun: (i think he's over compensating for something). So anyway, it was a fun day, and finally got a pay-off. We've decided though, that our calling either sucks, or that SBA have shot EVERY OTHER COYOTE in central washington.
Now for proof: cute little female.

Sorry for the poor photo as we actually took about 3030my to get this one. My son was getting rather frustrated to say the least. :chuckle:

So how was Arizona, get any dogs while you was there?
Unfortunately I had no time due to work. I barely had time to see the area a little. However I am sure I will make it back sometime soon but with the main intention being hunting and such versus work. Seen the 338good lapua savage down there! Man that is a awesome looking gun! How you been? I see you been stacking dogs! Good job.
-
Actually the calling has been a little slow, dogs just aren't responding well. I was hoping to get some snow and single digit temps by now but it's been to dry and warm, it's 14 out there right now. At least it's clear at the moment but yesterday was a total fog in until later in the day.
-
Got out friday and did three stands it was foggy I had two that come in but one that I was able to get a shot off.(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi84.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk11%2Fflyingczech%2Fcoyote2011-2012034.jpg&hash=9870600a9e293c0309d646b31170d7794cc04d79)
-
Yeah same here Falfire. I really need it to get cold and nasty out, the dogs have to much food readily available. I went with brother in law today and seen 3 but all on a mission to get the hell away long before a opportunity presented it self. Hopefully going back out tonight with high hopes!? We'll see. I need at least a dog today to keep momentum. :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
I hit 3 spots this morning and nothen ...it is really warm here right now!

Hey Raul Duke what are you shooting these critters with?
-
me and a buddy went out tonight ... shot 2 opposums :chuckle: he missed one coyote and when it was my turn it ran off just as I was starting to squeeeeeeze the frickin trigger :dunno: I started out o.k but man it has went to sheet in a heart beat ,,, just to warm right now .
-
Hey Raul Duke what are you shooting these critters with?
. Rugar M77 .22-250
-
Nice job, Raul! From the other posts, it looks like I'm not missing much by being away from the Wenatchee area. Cold and windy here in Mass. Saw my uncle, his 2 sons, and a friend yesterday after they got back from deer hunting the muzzle loader season here. said they didn't see much. Surprised that you have to wear hunter blaze orange even in the blackpowder season here.
-
that dang team DOG PILE IS OUT STACKING THEM UP AGAIN HUH :dunno: then they get on here and show us all the yotes they have killed and they want us to think they know how to hunt :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :dunno: 8)

I don't know about of that, there appears to be guite a few dogs getting posted up this year... maybe we can break the 350 dog mark this year!
-
Went out a few hours from home looking for a lion track. Did a few stands in the heavy fog looking for a bob. Never did see a lion track but did cut 3 bob tracks but didn't have the time or they weren't in the right area for me to go after on foot. Snow was a few days old but I LOVE hunting tracks.
Nice dog Chuck, keep after them Kim and congrats Raul! Looked like a big male I'm guessing just over 30#?
-
Went out today from about 7am to 4pmthe and never seen one dang dog. Seen alot of deer but no yotes. Funny thing was it was like 40degrees in the mtns and 27 in the valley? We need some snow and COLD weather bad. Hoping to change today's luck tomorrow. Pray for snow and cold weather!
-
Made it out for the first time today. Only got a couple of hours in (1-4pm). Well wouldn't ya know it I was packing the wrong rifle. I took the 20ga just to leave my options open for other tasty critters. Called in 5 that hung up on the other side of the river (80 yards) just out of my comfort zone for slugs in the 20ga. Guess it was too cold for them to swim for a meal today. I don't really blame them though, it was to cold for me to wade across and shoot them. :chuckle:
-
One more for SBA.
Had several dogs hang in' up out there around 500-600 yards but this one was probably a little more hungry than the others, so he played the game and lost. He was manged out pretty bad and stunk like he had been dead a month already. I drug him out of my calling area so I could go back there in a couple of weeks without reminiscing by smelling his dead azz.
:puke:

Double was 2 males, died about 40 yrds from each other, 140 yd shots, same yardage for the single a couple of sets later.
-
Add 2 more for SBA.
Camera battery died and had to use cell on the last one. the first decided that he would rather run than eat. 297 yrds running, the 2nd came in with 30 seconds, shot it at 20 yrds.

Bullelk,
I think you shot a queer dog.....it looks to me like that bottom dog has green eye makeup on. Unless you were just trying to pretty them up for the pic. :dunno:

I do believe it say you are a hunter! :chuckle:

Do you guys ever sell the hides or tan them to make things? Nice work to all, lots of fawns and calfs will be gratefull.

Hey Gingo, I think your right he did respond very quickly to the song YMCA !

Big10 was telling me (but I thought it best to keep to myself) that there were members of his team that wore pany hose. He said he just assumed you didn't like to get cold :dunno:
YMCA kinda shows us the cards.... :chuckle:

Sounds like to me someone is jealous, and whats to join the team. ;) :chuckle: :chuckle:

HEY----HEY----HEY,HEY,HEY. Let's all sing together now. YMCA. :chuckle:

Nice hat man! If I knew it was going to bring you that much luck I'd have worn it before you picked it up today. Now you know why I take her with me once in awhile to take pics. They rain LUCK sometimes. :)
-
I'm waiting for Idabooner to show up in his white one pretty soon. :)
-
Man you guys are killing me... I can't wait until christmas eve... It will be my first day off of work since I got home from My Idaho whitetail trip thanksgiving week. I'm going to try to kill some west side yotes!
-
 keep getting your head start on me guys, I have atleast two more weeks of recovery before it's on again..
-
One more for team maybe next time.
Hell Yeah buddy.
-
3 more for TDF 4 days of hard hunting and only 3 to show for it. Times were really rough.
-
Bearmtn, KenPCPilot, Maverick, shoot-em-dead
You guys need to kill a whole metric ton... now! I've yet to even see one this year but I'm going out saturday, even got permission!
yeah I know christmas and work has put a damper in my hunting schedule, as soon the holidays are over i'll be back into it
-
Glad to hear that the 7mm got one knocked down, but all the blood is on the other end .
the blood on the other end is where traildigger hit it( the back) i wasnt sure if he was going to hit, and the reason i use a 7mm is simple its the only gun i have to hunt with :bash: not exactly the cheapest thing to shoot but i can sure reach out and put a world of hurt on them plus even if i miss the shock wave alone will knock them over for a second shot lol.

ADD ( 1 ) for SBA
Up until this year my kills came from picking up Falfire's misses, but since he got that T3 he doesn't miss. When this one slipped into our right at 179 yds, I figured close enough it's my turn. :IBCOOL:

Hopefully I can get out tomorrow and contribute, I think I'm going to try the shotgun. Havn't got one with a shotgun before. You guys think #4 buck and a turkey choke will work?
-
Yes most callers I know hunting at the Predatormasters use #4 buckshot and dead coyote. Choke should be fine. Rick

That is all I use and it seems to work just fine.

Either Gringo killed off all the yotes, or this warm weather has slowed down the hunting. Anyone kill anything latley? :dunno:
-
+1 for MNT.
-
What are we up to now Raul?
-
Well, Gringo didn't get all of them.
This one came in and stopped at the 279 yard mark and stood there listening to the crying baby cottontail blues. VarmintVentilator ranged him for me and I centered the crosshairs and sent one his way only to realize I had put the crosshair directly on him instead of my first hold over line.......Senior Moment  :dunno: So anyway he took a few steps and stopped on the rocks and I shoved in another 55gr Ballistic Tip, held up on the first stadia line and made smoke again..... :bash: Hit'em in the left hip low and off he goes. Sent a third one down the tube on a hope shot but he vanished into thin air :hello: See ya!!
So I hike my sorry butt over to the area where he was last seen leaving with a sore butt and finally caught a glimpse of him running north bound and down, loaded up and trucking'.... :sry:
So I find a place to go prone and touched one off just a little behind him........Okay, okay....... it was WAYYYY behind him.
Anyway, he runs up to some rocks that he can't get over somewhere around 190 yards and decides to turn back and run down the hill. My uh...eehhh um, 5th round connects and rolls him into the brush. So I hikes my sorry azz over to where he is laying in the brush only to find he is still very much alive and very much pissed off at me for blowing his running gear out and his guts all over the rocks  So now I got to find a way to end all this knowing full well I am going to get a real azzchewing from you know WHO!! Now I finally put him to rest with round #6 at 12 feet. I drag his sorry and missing azz out of the brush only to hear VarmintVentilator laughing his azz off yelling something about "Anything left?" I responded by saying "HEY, I was just checking zero, he was dead on the first shot :chuckle: I thought he was going to load up his underwear from laughing so hard :chuckle:
So here he is, but his guard hairs were to thin and he had a touch of the mange so I left him for the birds.
One more for SBA

There are still a few around, but we are cleaning up the neighborhood pretty good, though we saw a total of ten or so today, most were just too fer out of reach or we didn't have permission to hunt the ground they were on.

falfire is that zebra duct tape on your rifle?? :dunno:
How'd ya guess? :chuckle:
Actually I was going to put the tape all over the gun and tell everyone I hand pen stripped it in my custom shop..........But I don't have a custom shop and VarmintVentilator was in a hurry to go call dogs, so that's as far as it got :yike: :dunno: :chuckle:
-
Can I join a team :dunno:
-
1,2,3,4,5,6, yes six rounds at one dog. And I thought Falfire had those misses out of his system. By the way, that dead coyote looked better than F F did by the time he got back to where I was sitting. O well he did get the dog, and I didn't have to waste any bullets backing him up. 8)

3 more for Team Dogpile.
I have been working on a AR project in 204. Well, I should clarify that, Swag has been working on it for me and I just got it this week. Got it to zero and pretty impressed with it although it still is going to get some getting used to.....just feels a bit different than the old standby. Changes in lead are not as much as I thought but still do exist. First dog I shot was mousing in some snowy sage and when I lip squeeked him he popped his head up looking for the source. He was about 250 and I held on his throat. Hit him dead center on the bottom jaw (with him facing me). He no longer had a bottom jaw but the 40grainers didn't have enough to make it instantly fatal. I'm starting to rethink where it is I hold on these dogs with the 204. Second dog also required a follow up shot to plant him.
All in all, happy with it, need to spend a little more time with it to make sure :chuckle: Swag called and said he picked up a big dog later that day and we took a picture of the 3 together.
(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi178.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fw252%2FDirtydog_pics%2FDSC_00011.jpg&hash=6be14d86a372b4249342270745788846234b8ba0)
You got to be careful when you have Swag's fingers on a rifle. He apparently feels the need to go the extra mile and "customize' it for you :chuckle: I thought I'd share
Thanks for all your work Swag on putting it together

3 more for MNT.

Whats the story on bobcats, foxes, cougars, wolves and bears? Last year if someone got one they put 10, 20 and 30 points in a hat and drew random for points. Is that still the case?
-
4. Washington Coyotes Only WDFW has specified that no out-of-state coyotes, fox, bobcat, or cougar can be entered.
-
It says out of state, not that none of them can be entered. So the only thing that would apply for is wolves.

Found this little guy this morning. He was amazing as it took basically three shots to put the lights out.(team dogpile)

No no not with 204! 204 almost always is one shot! It was that dang 223! Time for bullet change tonight. The funny thing is others I shot were destroyed but not this one. Maybe no bone was hit?
-
Here's another for (team dogpile) from the other day. This was from the current bullets used so it appears bone is what makes the expansion possible based on this one. Still going back to Vmax's though. Hey Gringo when you get tired of that 204the just let me know. I love those things. I need to order a barrel for the AR for next year. Hopefully I'll have more to add soon.
-
Swag, really nice job on Gringo's AR. What's up with all these follow up shots this week, is everybody getting glassy eyed or what? :chuckle:
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE.

2 for SBA
Got to go out for 2 hours this am ( She said no more cause the family was showing up @ 10am). Made 2 sets, this female came in @ 5 min, standing frontal shot 97 yrds. Another female on the 2nd set @ 3 min, broadside at 24 yds just before she was getting ready to bugger out. Made it back in time. I'm happy cause I got to go, and my wife is happy that I made it back in time and that's what counts.
-
Glad you had such good luck today Big10. I did go out and make it back in time also so the wife is happy but when I got to my spot someone had been driving all over it and took pop shots:(
O well tomorrow is another day.

Nice job Chuck. Feel bad because you pretty much have all the points for our team. I've been out alot but no luck at all. Seen one going around a cliff and spooked it and couldn't get a shot off and that's what my season has been like. Hoping for some snow, helps me out quite a bit.
-
My Christmas day started out awesome! Went out and had this chubby guy standing about 80 yards away. (Team dogpile) team sign being made as we speak for next round.
-
Atta boy Chuck, Swag better watch his 6 :chuckle:
-
Good job Chuck. Went out late this mornin after the kids open up their gifts. Did 2 stands, seen 1 yote hold up at 500+ yards. Maybe Next Time.
Merry Christmas, to everyone.
-
Wow, great job all
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I should be back at it tomorrow, can't wait to burn powder and lay some fur down, hopefully we will get some snow too.

Yeah Falfire I want snow real bad! I got some extra snow camo I would love to try out!

2 more for Team Dogpile
First one was a real pretty dog at 125 yards with the 204, this is the exit side, surpirsed it passed through. He ran about 60 yards and tipped over.
(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi178.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fw252%2FDirtydog_pics%2FDSC_00082.jpg&hash=e4216aa33101d783282f8f847e21da34ef98f466)
This dog I was just trying to mind my own business and go to the post office and he crossed the road 400 yards from my house. I'm thinking he had been on the suicide watch list for awhile. Again with the 204 close to 300 yards. Mercy kill. I don't like not seeing the impact through the scope. I shot and heard the hit and he just disappeared. Anyway, this one kind of reminded me of one of Swags old highschool girlfriends :chuckle:

This was the Best Day I've had in a long time. The first time this year that I got a Double. The first to come in was a female I shoot her at 150yds , when she went down I changed the call to yote death cry. The male came on a dead run and stop at about 75yds where I put the hammer down !! :bdid:(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi84.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk11%2Fflyingczech%2Fcoyote2011-2012042.jpg&hash=9638a0e9759a6a97fc1eef38e032286b886c492a)

Dang....204 is laying the smackdown ....good job man..

I'm shooting a Kimber varmint in a 204 Ruger and a 32gr bitzking going at 4184 fps so it hits hard. I did 4 stands to day so that comes to a 75% day . :chuckle:
-
I guess... what a blood bath ... how big of a hole is there coming out ? I want one of those 204 s... but heck I have a .223 and a .243 which has smoked its share varmits .. Love to take a 204 back to P.a and smoke some groundhogs ...I really miss that ...

Snow where? I just read this and ran to my window. NOTHING! First thing that came to mind, was calling in sick to work. Taking a snowday :chuckle:
-
not a good day! had 3 others come out in the open to howls too and nothing! they either laid back down or just turned around and left....all 3 over 400 yards away, they would stop and just sit there and then leave after about 15 minutes ( oh this one is for Team maybe next time)

I think we need us a T-brad for an update ;)
That is unless he was smart enough to avoid that job this year :chuckle:

Not by mine. SBA has a solid team that are both skilled and put the dogs up. Team Dogpile has a 2 new recruits that are apparently MIA. Hats off to SBA, you guys get it done!
As for Swag and his long last love....

I'll just say that between Swag and "Gringa", she was still the better looking one of the pair. :chuckle: I can still remember you two walking hand in hand and parents would cover their childrens eyes and cross to the other side of the street. :chuckle: :chuckle:
I was able to go out and pick up these 2 more for team Dogpile with the 204. First one at 326 yards the second at 245. I took my brother out and he missed one at 120 as well. I could hear Swag in the back of my mind saying, "he would have kept coming". Indeed, that one would have and I had no chance for a follow up.

Did 3 stands this afternoon and never saw a dog.....I think my brother who came out to visit is bad luck.... :dunno:
-
I'm trying to get out been Raining. Howler's and three crow call's to turn today. Cant compete with you guy's. Way to go Gring31 keep at it buddy. Rick
-
Yea bad year for me so far. Having a new kid really slows me down for getting out.
-
Went out with my son today and seen 4 and took none. I was convinced by my son to take my 7mm which was a bad idea. However we are learning this area and the dogs will not respond to our calls at all? They just look and keep moving. Tomorrow we'll be back at it with AR and a tall bills for my son with high hopes. Wish me luck. :sry: (team)
-
Try bird or a rodent sound. Coyote pup distress higher pitch the better and put a decoy in a bush. I'm going to new mexico in a month. They just had the world hunt there again. I do well with the nutty nut hatch foxpro sound. Rick
-
Just set up over looking an area where ya believe coyotes are at and snipe them when they wander by. VarmintVentilator blends in good with his surroundings high on this bluff.

That is one gorgeous piece of land! Seems like you could probably hunt almost anything from that same spot.

Thanks Wraithen, it's pretty typical of our surroundings. This is a photo of my backyard two years ago. The elk were interested in my hay barn.

Tons of places to go but most all of it is private land and not many hunters get to it so it's usually full of coyotes.

well I will tell ya this :chuckle: if you go yotey hunting in this area around April or May you will shoot the sheet out of them ...Or is it closed then .. never payed attention to eastside coyote hunting rules ! I run this area hard during turkey season and I see mass yotes in the spring and have called in many during turkey seaon ..Even had one take a gobble from us as we were calling it .. the gobbler had his tail up and they ran up behind him a snatched him up ... yeah if I only had that on video
-
Got almost an inch of rain last night, things are pretty much mush right now with high winds expected later. Think I'll shoot for tomorrow. Sweet job on the dog Swag.

Hey all. I apologize for not being on here this past month. I am working on building a home in Tonasket and internet access would not let me access this site. I don't know if it is the size of the pages or what. I could see stuff on my phone, but that isn't too much fun waiting for a pageful of photos to load up.
So, I will be getting a score sheet up this week, since I don't see one yet (I haven't read through all the pages), updating teams that I received some pm's on, and that should get us up to date. After my next post, please let me know if I missed anything or anyone, and I will correct it ASAP. Thanks for your patience, and I hope their isn't too much bad stuff written about me when I go through and tally scores. :chuckle:

:whoo: finaly after over a month of waiting I got clearance from the doc to hit the woods! (just got told to take it easy still and no lifting over 50lbs) but that gives me the green light finaly to put some miles on the boots and some yotes in the dirt! no just to sneak away from the wife and kids :chuckle:

Finally made it out today, after spending the long X-mas weekend (4 days) in Las Vegas with the family, had lots of fun. Did win 12$ playing Black Jack. The only coyote I saw that weeked was at Coyote Ugly and she had one nice pelt.
(2 more for SBA)
The first yote tried to leave the game early, while I was walking in to make my first set of the day, didn't make it, 250 yds running straight away. Second yote came in across a wheat field to within 60 yds, after 15 mins of calling and me saying a few choice words, why nothing was responding.

and she had one nice pelt.

Made it to Spokane yesterday. First set had one at 600 plus yds- no shots fired. nothing else the rest of the day :'( :ACRY:
-
Gotta tell ya there fellers, that was a big coyote, I thought it was a horse at first. One well placed shot and dropped him in the dirt. VV has a photo he will post when he has time, another very good shot coming up.

3 more for team SBA
Made about 5 sets today, on # 2 set; a small female responded within 3 mins, stopped here at 25 yds, about 8 mins later a pair decided to show up. Dropped the female at 60 yds, but not able to stop the male, 2 shots later. #4 set; another female decided to commit suicide at about 90 yds.
Did have a yote try to out run the Ford today, he ran along side the truck about 30 yds out for about 600 yds or more yards before he decide to go the other direction. It was funnier then H*ll.
-
Here is one ill donate to SBA another small one LOL.
A guy on pred masters said the coyotes were not responding today so i went down the road a 1:00 PM and three minutes into the first and only set this hard charging male took a 223 to the chest at 26 yrds .

I would have liked to rope that one but he was a movin to fast for me LOL a lil closer and he would have run me over.

I will let Swag tell the story as I am excited to hear the narrator. O and attach the pictures.

So yesterday chuck & I went out to some new ground that he got permission to hunt. After making a few stands we hadn't seen a thing. We moved over to some ground that I usually hunt, but have not had much luck on lately. So as we are working or way to our first stand out pops a dog into an alfalfa field at 200 yards. So to be polite, I let chuck take the shot, and the mangy guy dropped.
So we moved on to another stand that usually calls for some of those long distance shots so I offered chuck the option to barrow my ar-10 just incase we needed to get little more distance then the 223. He was more than willing, we literly just sat down & were getting ready to call when chuck spots a dog moving across the canyon about 400 yards aways. The wind had shifted & we were busted. For the next 30 seconds all he could say was "can I shoot it" there was no point in calling so he drew done on a second one that had came out at the bottom of the canyon and dropped him. Two for Ol chuck & i managed to pull down one mangy one, on the way out. Not a bad day. Three more for team dog pile

IF you call that bad mange....you should see some of the last few dogs we've killed. IMHO, when the mange starts really showing up, you have thinned them a bit too hard. I'm not talking about general population, but I work the same areas, no mange early season, later have the rats move in looking for a new place where they aren't picked on.
Way to keep after them! I went out sturgeon fishing after church today and should have gone yote hunting. All I got was 2 small bites and cold.

VV, Why did you let em get that close? Usually Falfire would have had at least a couple rounds off @ the 500 yds mark :)
Nice shooting FalFire, We didn't get out today due to alcohol poisoning, was up at 5 but just couldn't seem to make it out the door . Did get about a inch of snow last nite

Going hunting tomorrow with brother in law to new ground with hopes of some photo opportunities.
-
FF, did you hit those last 2 in the butt?
-
The guy we take the coyotes to, that does taxi work says he has never seen a year like this as far as mange goes. When he starts taking dogs beginning in early November, he figured 30% already had the bug showing up. His only guess was the 90 degree plus weather we had in September then the quick cool down which was below freezing around here, then another warm up mid to late October. :dunno: Just know he has rejected alot of dogs this year because of no hair, or the start of losing it. We also had some that were loaded with enough bugs you could see them crawling around in there. ( Not pretty )
-
FF, did you hit those last 2 in the butt?
Hell, I hit most of them in the butt! That's cause I usually miss on the first round and they run off, it's the only shot I have left :yike: :dunno: :chuckle:
Gringo, that last dog was showing the better side, I've killed them that didn't have but maybe 4 hairs on their whole body.......That's bad mange when it get's like that, when they look like a rat terrier.
-
That's bad mange when it get's like that, when they look like a rat terrier.
Good part is those mange dogs don't seem to run as fast. I think it hurts em to even move....

One more for MNT. VERY slow today compared to Saturday. This one came into mice/vole squeaks but on our way into the stand we had spooked one as we came over the hilltop. It looked like such a good area that I decided to give it 15 minutes or so and try anyway. At about 10 minutes I saw one about 450 yards out and told my cousin. He glassed it and said there was 2. Got the mice going and he headed our way. Shot it at 94 yards and the other took off. I got some coyote distress going and he she came. My cousin missed at 200 yards. We saw a few but they just weren't coming in.

On the 6th set we heard one coming in behind us, we both turned to look, he stopped at about 20 ft away and gave us a very strange look. I think he was sizing us up. No shot winded us and was gone like a shot. The next set called in this small male to within 40 yards, almost missed, low heart shot he ran about 50 yds. Did get it on video, will post when I figure out how to do it.
-
Pretty sure I can still see his heart in that softball sized hole. Looks like it could have fallen out though :dunno:

Swag.........ya did better than I did yesterday. Seen only one dog at over 800 yards and he was heading up a big ass hill into wheat stubble, I wasn't going up that hill after him either. Wind blew all damn day long and put the Voodoo on the hunt, came home with tears in my eyes and my tail tucked up tight..........but..... got over that real quick after a cold beer :IBCOOL:
Great job there fellers, we are stacking these things up like cord wooooood. Hope the deer and pheasant population will appreciate all we do.
Bullelk, I think you are missing a turret cover there bud and it looks like you have the same problem I do......big ass gaping' holes in your dogs. The taxi asked me to please stop doing that! :dunno:
VarmintVentilator keeps telling me, SHOULDER, DAMN IT, AIM FOR THE SHOULDER!! :bash:
I just never get a shoulder shot :dunno: it's always the butt that I get to see :chuckle:

Dang Falfire, Let that barrel cool down some. :chuckle:
-
Except for that 6 shot miss morning a couple of weeks back, he has been lights out. It's been fun to watch, cause he's worked his butt off for these dogs. Now I get one every now and then hope'in I see the dog before he does. Maybe I'll have to start hitting them when there 400yds. out to slow him up a bit. :chuckle:
-
Darn! You guys better leave a few for me. I fly back Thursday. My uncle, his buddy, and sons hunted the Mass muzzle loader season right up to the close on the 31st. No luck. They blame it on the coyotes here, that are killing off the deer herds. Looks like still no snow there.
-
These are just a few of the loads we have sent off to the taxi. I didn't take photos of the other 4 or 5 truck loads, I should have.
The freezer is getting full, it will only handle 7 or 8 dogs depending on size. Plus I can usually get a couple of porcupines and ray-coons in there too.
We usually send 7 to 10 dogs down at a time plus the porkys and raccoons we get, all of them have been taken since Nov 1, 2011.
Unfortunately, I haven't even taken photos of all the critters we kill including coyotes but most get posted.
VarmintVentilator and I hunt hard, it's early mornings and late evenings several days a week. I'm not working right now so I have time to play more than before.
Still it's been a very slow year, dogs just haven't been seen much and we put a lot of miles on our boots to get the few we have been lucky enough to find. I missed two more dogs today, well I think I may have hit one of them but never found it, one was 377 yards and the second one I missed for certain, was 403 and moving :dunno: I'll kill him next week :IBCOOL:

Except for that 6 shot miss morning a couple of weeks back, he has been lights out. It's been fun to watch, cause he's worked his butt off for these dogs. Now I get one every now and then hope'in I see the dog before he does. Maybe I'll have to start hitting them when there 400yds. out to slow him up a bit. :chuckle:
Hey now, I hit that dog 3 times, I was laughing at myself so hard I couldn't hit him on the run! :chuckle:
It was a chip shot at 279 yards and I forgot to use my hold over :bash: He sure left in a hurry but the second round caught him and broke the right rear wheel which slowed him down to 30 mph....dead dog though!!
I think I need to do some reloading now :chuckle:

Kens computer is still down so i'm posting for him. Here are a few from him this past week. He is stacking them up for TDF.

Got this male to come in this morning to 120 yds with some howling and the old raspy rabbit. On the next stand in a completely different area tried that and everything else I had but he (or she) just ignored me. It was 360yds out, but it was on top of a hill in the skyline, and I won't take those shots.

First call female 60 yds, 3rd call small male 200 yds, 5th call missed at 499. My camera man was getting a little pissy, so i let him carry a gun this time. We where walking over a knoll, a yote took off 50 yds in front of us going into a canyon with no way out. The only thing I heard as he ran by me was " longer legs bitch". His 6 foot and 22 years old, I'm 47 and 5'9. #3 down 150 yds running. 7th call, yote came into with 72 yds busted us, was able to nail him at 140 yds running. 9th call, called in 3 yotes first yote responded within 3 mins, killed at 100 yds, 2nd yote 3 mins later 8 feet from the first yote. 3rd yote came in to the right, not able to shoot, reason skylined. Great day!
Did get 3 awesome video's " coming soon" Jan 8 th

Watched this one for about 20 minutes this early evening, he wasn't interested in coming to the call so I put the sneaky sneak on him covering about 300 yards in a hurry before I lost all light. I got within 200 yards and saw him angling towards me and covering ground fast. A quick range check at 154 yards, I put the Mark 4 reticle on his head then flipped the kill switch on 'em as he was beat feetin' it out of dodge.
I heard the bullet connect and he put the after burners on for about 100 yards then piled up, a solid double lung shot :bfg:
Nasty looking little booger, he was mangin' up and real scrawny, but the 70gr Berger VLD out of the Remmy 700 SPS Tactical made it easy to put this one on the ground for the birds.

You guys had an amazing weekend
I was on the west side of the state visiting some family....hopefully I'm good for another year or so....still not sure why people live over there :dunno:
-
I hear ya Gringo, I lived on the west side for 27 years, I hated it the day I moved there in 1980 and hated it the day I moved out in 2007. I absolutely hate going back to visit family, however, it's still beats the hell out of going back to East L.A. to visit family!
:pee: on Los Angeles!
Well this morning turned sour on me. I popped a dog out at 270 yards only to have him do the death spin and jump dance then run off, leaving me with only a tuft of hair as a going away present. Looks like most of them are beginning to rub pretty badly so I believe it's time to switch up to the 243 and 55 or 58 grainers to blow them inerds outwards and not worry about pelts.
So, it's off to the reloading room to make more boolits!! :whoo:
-
Dude, the front half. :spank_butt: :spank_butt: :spank_butt: I said aim for the front half. I have showed you the exact spot, but you still miss it by 8 inches. :hunt2:

2 more for SBA
Went out this AM, 1st set had a hard charger all the way, couldn't stop him at all. Finally he stopped right at the call and I'm sure I could see the WTF look on his face. I put him down @ 24 yrds, I didn't see the other 2 that followed him in about 150 yrds behind untill they were leaving faster than they were probably coming in . I gave the closest one a warning shot just to see it turn on the afterburners. 2nd set was dry. 3rd set this female came in and paused broadside @ 43yrds. I think SBA is about ready to hit the 100 mark. :chuckle:

You guys are stacking them up!!!! I can't even find a fresh track.....that's the trouble with hunting the same ground....

Can't catch a break. done about 30the stands this year and haven't had anything come in. Had a group howling back at us, but wouldn't budge. To top off the day we saw one mousing in some guys pasture 50 yards off the road directly behind a no hunting sign.

I appreciate all the help I can get, it's been tough finding anything that suits me. Problem is, when I tell them I'm only looking for employment and not work they just look at me funny and say. "Thanks, uh.....we'll give ya a call back!" :dunno:
Anyways out of shear boredom after breakfast, I went down to the creek and popped this porky that was hang in' out in a tree.
Oh..... and this coyote decided to beat feet it out of the brush on my way back to the truck! Go figure! :bash:

Well fine, I think I'll take a break tomorrow and work on my bunkhouse.
I have some framing to do and more sheet rock work to do inside.
It's going to be a reloading house and guest house, I'll be able to shoot out to at least 1000 yards from this setup.
It will have two queen sized beds upstairs and a few amenities. Eventually it will get a new 16x14 deck on the back side and concrete slab too.
This is what i've been tinkering with when I am not killing dogs.

Thanks guys, it's been a lot of fun learning all the things that I have no idea what I'm doing with. After I purchased this small ranch in August 2005, we walked into 5 inches of water on December 26th 2005. It was a complete mess, everything in the basement was destroyed. So began the remodel on the house. I completely gutted the the basement and replaced all the electrical through out the entire house, that was a piece of cake since I spent over 15 years in the electrical trade. Installed all new underground power to my shop and shed.
I completely re did all the plumbing in copper, all new fixtures, toilets, sinks, built new showers, all new cabinets, etc. Built new walls, tore out old walls, had new vinyl wrapped windows installed, new ceramic flooring in the basement, new hardwood flooring in the main upper level, everything was replaced, new heat pump, furnace, water heater, well tank, etc. I dug up the well head and had an extension and new pump installed, new front deck, new roof, new seamless steel siding, etc. I busted up the old concrete driveway pad and put down new asphalt and ran all new underground water lines to the shed and shop.
I still have a full kitchen remodel facing me and looking forward to that challenge in the coming months.
And through it all, I still found time to tinker on the old milk shed shown in the photos. It's been a great experience for me and hopefully, I get it all done before I kick the bean can. :chuckle:
It's been a challenge at times but still I've had a ball.

Finally posted one for Team Warning Shots.

Okay.....So now, on to more important things, like killing dogs.
Went out early this morning, I know, I said I was going to take a break! But I was sitting here this morning drinking coffee and decided to take a couple of hours to pursue ol' wiley before I have to get busy here at home, out by 6:30 back home at 9:30.
I heard probably a dozen howling, seen 4, killed two, then came home to french toast, sausage and hot coffee.

I have the same problem with Gringo, except he reminds me constantly how great of a shot he is regardless of the amount of rounds he sends flying. :hunt2: At least your pain is putting up dogs for your team. For most of our team has hit a real slump in the dogs. I think they have all wised up & are staying out of a 20 mile area around Gringo's house. Very little sign, won’t answer the call can t even seem to find them in the spotlight. :dunno: :dunno:

No unfortunately we're not holding back on the pictures I think I have 2 or 3 that I need to get posted otherwise we are in a slump. Even gringo is having a hard time finding dogs, chuck is putting forth a lot of effort as w.ell just can't seem to get on the dogs. I really think we have just pushed them all of your way.

I know of 4 others that had seen him last season. No sightings that I had heard this season, til now. I researched the rarity, and I'm assuming it's him. Glad to see him at the taxi at least. I'm sure this year was his most difficult survive!

You guys can definitely pull in a little bit bigger dogs in your area than we can, here it's one out of maybe 40 dogs that are nice size. There it seems more like one out of eight or ten. Nice job.
-
Go ahead and toss me in the mix. I would hate to get a yote this winter and not be able to post it.
You can either lump me into a team that needs a random guy (NOTE: I wont be hitting it super hard, but will get out when I can/mainly west side hunting) or start up Team Late Start. Maybe I can get my brothers to join in.
Happy hunting guys/gals.

This small male was trying to cross a green wheat field, only made it about 182 yds before he was stopped for go. The next was a female, I called for about 3 mins then the caller quit. (dead batteries) Just before I got up to change the batteries I noticed a pair was coming across the wheat field, stopped her at about 50 yds not able to get the male. :bash:

That was a toad of a dog. I was disappointed when I put him on the scale. I thought he would go near 40#. If I remember he was only like 34#.

Good job to 2/3 of TEAM DOGPILE! I have been out numerous times with responses but no takers. I hope to be getting on the band wagon of contributing this week. WOW SBA you guys are getting busy!

Nice one Gringo ... I finally have snow but I have to work :bash: :bash: Hopefully I can get back out before it melts ...

I went out yesterday with some fresh snow...I didnt see a one, The wind is blowing about 30 MPH now :dunno:
-
:yeah: but i found my black jack!
-
Went out tonight for some yote hunting and finally got one in the sights and bang thud! Who hoo! Wrong the mound he was on was a semi firm pile of manure in the middle of very soft 3-4ft manure pond type area. Tried for a hour to access with no luck. UGH! Maybe some hip waders will do the trick? Just not sure I want him that bad. The up side is it's snowing right now! !!!!! Man I wish it was Friday. Well of to home and bed morning is coming fast.
-
:IBCOOL: snowing like crazy it's about time
-
YEAH the sheet is deep here in Skagit ... plowing threw 3 ft of it last night out lookin around ...it was crazy .... a few days of this and I should have some hungry yotes on the move
-
I was able to get out this morning for a short time. All was calm early then the wind picked up and the snow started up again which shut me down for a while, can't see crap with the snow blown' in my eyes, so I came back home for breakfast. Took the Savage 22-250 out and set up on a nice strip of wheat stubble and waited for a long shot. The female was 184 yards, the male was taken at 322 yards about ten minutes apart. Man those 75gr Hornaday A-Max bullets tear things up pretty bad. Snow is getting' deeper, about 2" now :IBCOOL:

Today was a miserable day with the snow, tough to get through for this old man. Seen 10 total, shot at 3, killed one. All were running shots at well over 150 yards.
With the crunchy layer on top of the snow, it's really difficult to sneak these guys without them hearing you.

went out all day today and got the big nothing. The weather was crap windy freezing rain and sleet. I saw 4 coyotes and all were on private land. long day of miserable day of hunting with nothing to show. Did take a picture of 3 of the dogs i'll post it once my buddy sends it to me.
-
I went out this morning right at light and saw 2. one behind a house and another was up on a hill next to a highway.... :bash:
-
Well keep at it guys, there is lots of dogs to kill.
It's 7am, I slept in a little today, yesterday wore my butt out, but after this cup of java, I'm out of the house and hitting' it again, my wife is even tagging along today with me.
VarmintVentilator is out busting geese today and he and I should be back out together tomorrow morning calling' and killin' :hunt2:
I think today is going to be an AR day, too many not stop runners so perhaps I can put down that double I missed on yesterday :mgun:
Go get 'em guys and enjoy the snow while we have it
-
Falfire, I am trying really hard to find you a job.... :dunno: just so you do not have as much time everyday to go hunting.... :chuckle:
Thanks Swag,
I appreciate all the help I can get, it's been tough finding anything that suits me.
Go figure! :bash:

Why shoot a porcupine??? :dunno:
-
Because porkys eat trees, and here in Eastern Washington there aren't very many trees!

Exactly, Porkys destroy trees, eating the bark and we have a lot of Porkys and not many trees where I'm at.

Went out late this morning just after 8am, back at the ranch by 1030, had a slow morning only saw 4 dogs. Shot at two killed the one a little female. What makes this one special was that I spotted her on the side of a hill over 300 yards out, by the time I could get set up for the shot she was up and running hard. I give a bit of a lead and dropped her on the first round. When I was able to finally get to her I ranged the fence post from where I fired from.....360 yards :yike: No joke, skill had nothing to do with this hit, it was ALL LUCK.
The AR used was one of my builds in 223, firing a Hornady 55gr SP first round hit her spine and stopped her, the second round put her down. Thank God for fence posts for gun rests :chuckle:

Thats some dam nice (as you said "lucky") shooting. Those that practice and plan are always the most lucky.
It was just dumb luck too, although I did check zero this morning before heading' out. I hit my 300 yard steel target twice and figured I was good enough for the day.
Funny, I took the AR today because yesterday I had so many runners and trying to kill'em at 150 plus yards with a bolt gun ain't an easy task, so today I whack this one way beyond my dreams with a 223 at 360 yards on the first round..... talk about DUH!
I wouldn't have even believed it if my wife wasn't there to see it happen and the look on her face was :yike: " WoW.....Ya hit it" :yike:
In this photo there is a fence post directly in front of my truck, I used that post for a rest. This shows the killer hike up the hill to get the coyote and I'm still not to the dog yet, it's farther up the hill.

Nice shootingFalfire, But I'm leaning more to VVs story :)
-
Looks like you guys have nice weather, very nasty here. I thought I would go out when the snow was done but rain started right after the snow and now there is a half inch of ice on top of the snow. Try walking on it and sometimes it holds and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, it is very loud. Nevertheless we tried today and saw one but didn't get a shot. We have a bunch located but no way to get close to them. Its terrible and nothing we can do about it.
-
2 trees in our yard went down just now. I heard them break from inside the house and went out and looked.

It WAS a big flat......then, it WAS a big hill, which promptly kicked my azz when I climbed it :chuckle:
This old man was whooped when I got back to the truck and my wife asked "Do you guys do this often? I said, gasping for every ounce of air I could suck in..... " Oh hell yeah, it's common, happens every day" :o Riiiiiight!! Of course trying to gasp for air while talking was an extra effort and darn near caused me to have another stroke!
And you are correct.....the girl can shoot! Wait 'til ya see her with a 1911!! :yike:
-
Well, today the wind was blowing about 15mph from the south but I figured I'd take a chance in hopes of seeing something. So I hike in on a old trail and set up over looking some rocks and crp land. About ten minutes into my first stand I see movement off to my right, this guy is out mousing' and having a good time.....Weeeelll, that good time didn't last, seems as they never do.
About 190 yards out he chose his last mouse to munch on when I put the re-barreled Stevens 200 25-06 to work sending the 85gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip tearing through his chest. The look on his face was DOH! :yike: as he slammed to the ground. The wind gusts were getting worse by the minute so I decided to call it a day early.

WooHoo! Kim204......Good to see ya back in the action and on the board with two great dogs.
Bowhunter45......Perhaps someday, we could put something together!
-
Congratulations KIM204. Went out today with BIL and seen a few right out if the gate only to have them continuously be in the wrong location for safe shooting. Then moved on to another location which got us all excited when we had numerous dogs answer us back from two different draws only to have nothing come out. Then next stand one dog comes out and sits! Yeah sits and listens-looks our way (600)+ and would not come no more! :( o and we got stuck for a 1hour 1/2 . Over good hunting day. Hahahaha. I hope to break this slump real soon! Maybe SBA can sell me some special sent stuff. :chuckle:

Bitches are in heat, one of the females I shot today was dripping. Swag has the pics (but not of that :chuckle: ) He was trying to wallow in that stuff for cover scent. :dunno: Apparently he swears by the stuff :chuckle:
It was blowing 25+ most of the day. I shot real good early, but if you were set up with that crosswind......you can burn through some brass >:(

They've been in heat up here for 2 or 3 weeks now. They're so busy hooking up they don't want to play too well right now but we'll start bottling some of it up for Swag :chuckle:

Looks like you bought the Glorfield place. Used to be 80 - 100 less coyotes a year on that loop when Travis and I were around for the winter. The last full winter I was home was '03 and I stayed at George Knott's place and Travis and I fed and calved for him while he was dying of cancer. I built a 12 twist .243 and slayed about 60 that winter with a 75 grain V-max. Chuck's little strech is always good because he always has a few dead cows in the winter.

Here is the pic. Of the one I shot the other day.
-
Called this little female. Perfect set up in a stubble field overlooking a nice drainage. I dug out the range finder, got my yardage and started calling. I got this OLY ARMS 243WSSM dialed in for the longer shots but had yet to get blood on it. After calling for 15min or so I heard something coming through the stubble. Of course not even in the direction I was set up in! To my surprise :yike: here came this little dog bounding up and down following the combine track to me. This stubble was over 2ft high so almost made it impossible to see her coming in. Being ready for the shot in the opposite direction I grabbed the gun and began to swing around for the shot. Bipod stuck in the stubble as I started to rotate I looked like I was having a seisure trying to free the bipod for the shot! By the time i got a bead on her she was 40yds and closing. Bang the WSSM goes off and the dog turns on the afterburners. Till the 100yd range then I let another one loose and azz over tea kettle she goes! 58gr V-max makes a mess!

I had seen this guy from over 600yds out and got set up. I literally threw eight different sounds at this one before the commitment was established on his part. I lost sight of him as he was a downwinder! Not a good choice on his part. I pretty much knew where he was headed so I packed up and headed towards him. He was eventually going to cross my scent path by going the way he did. I got to where I felt good with the shot options I had if he were to pop out. Laying down prone I squeeked and guess who popped up on the hill 60yds from me! Looking directly into the sun and only able to make out a silouette of him standing full frontal the .223 connected with a chest shot and the death spin began down the backside of the hill. I had to stop the suffering from the first shot, hence the multiple breathing holes.

Hey guys, sorry no pic's with the last post, having trouble posting the pic's not sure why. Will try again later. Not able to get back in to page 30.
-
Finally I can get these posted so Gringo will get off my back..
Last Friday went out & had a wonderful day playing in the snow. Pull off some wicked shoots cleaning up on a couple of Runner after some poorly placed shots by a buddy I was hunting with. Made a morning off if by finishing off with two more on a couple of sets.

Gringo had me stop buy & take some pictures of 2 he had got that mornings as well.

Went out on Saturday with Gringo & as usual he played the role of dog hog & shot 6.

Heavy heavy fog. Did 2 stands, and I'm headed home now. Can't see pass 100yrd. Hope the rest of talk had better luck.
I went out Monday morning to do a couple of stands at a friend's place who said the coyotes are thick. It was foggy, and nothing was moving. Same thing trying to spotlight in the fog--nothing! I've come to the conclusion that hunting on foggy days is a waste of time.
-
Picked up this single. The geese were acting all stupid, I figured it was the eagles messing with them but then saw this guy and ruined his day. I believe this one makes 60 for me.

I almost forgot to post this little guy, I got him coming out of the pasture next door, the day after all of the Freezing rain. Even after he took a serving of 168 grain A-max he still didn’t want to give the goose up.

I really have no clue :dunno: I simply don't keep track, however, had I known there were two dogs this morning coming to the call, we would have had both. VarmintVentilator was on the rifle and saw both but from my location I only saw the female and when she came into my view I delivered her some #4 buckshot.
I just stuff my freezer full then load them up in the pickup and haul 'em to the taxi. He keeps what he wants and tosses the rest, then says bring me more......so I bring more. I only go out for a couple of hours, two or three days a week.
Today was an 11 dog day but I shot at only one other and he was 803 yards out :yike: I was just poking' fun at him though :chuckle:

Nice job FF, going to hit it tomorrow, its going to be very noisy, but have to do it, because its the weekend. :IBCOOL:

Good luck and kill a few for us. It's going to be cold and dark tonight with barely any moon.
I'll be up at 4am and out at first light, then back home for breakfast around 9am, I have some plumbing and framing to work to do after that. Maybe I'll get back out tomorrow afternoon to smoke some powder.
Have fun guys.

Ha! Funny you should ask, let’s just say more than once I heard the expression "I am Out" earthier he was pronouncing his sexuality or he had run out of ammo Again...
True story....I shot the first 3 with 3 rounds. We had 40mph winds and there was one or two that I just couldn't figure out where to hold. Then when they got to running, more tries didn't exactly help. Longer range was better if it was in my face. I'll admit, I was guessing, not even sure I hit any that were in the crosswind side.
Great to see you knock the dust off Wile E. Hunter!

Wow... Had no idea I was on a team! Id like to give an apology to team lucky dogs! I have been killing dogs but don't proof of when :bash:

Nice job Big 10. Got home tonight from 2 days on the wetside. I'm not sure, but I think I'm still over there. Was hoping to get out tomorrow for a couple hours, but with all this rain we're having here it's turning into a big muddy mess. 2 -3 inches of mud with ice underneath. I'll probably pass.

one more for team maybe next time, alittle over 400 yards!

This male and his girfriend were curious but wouldn't commit. Shot him at 239 yrds. I'm resorting to shooting the cripples now apparently. Looks like a trap took off his foot.

Great job guys, the dogs are falling like rain, this weekend was a bust for me so I worked on my bunk house.
Speaking of rain, that and wind is all we had here this past weekend and the calling sucked for the couple of hours I did get out, it was a mucky, muddy, sloppy mess.
I howled up 1 dog on Saturday and did get a shot but the round must have hit some tall grass and never made it to the dog. Saw 7 dogs on Sunday but couldn't get to any of them, I would have had to cover wide open ground and they had the elevation advantage. I saw 1 dog on Monday but the wind and the muddy mess made it real tough to try to even hike in a mile plus for one dog.
Maybe next time :dunno:

Here's 3 more from last weekend. First was a male shot at 75 yds on the first call of the day, next was a male at 150 yds on the 8th call, and a female 75 yds on the last call of the day. Not a bad day. 8)

I finally got out today for about an hour after spending the past several days working on my bunk house. I saw this little lady hang in' out at the local watering pond, she gave me a funny look just about the time the 55gr. Hornady Soft Point ripped through her heart at 321 yards. :dunno: Perhaps I looked funny to her or perhaps she had never seen such a handsome stud before :chuckle:

Are you using the WSSM for most of your dogs?

It's about half and half this year. Those above were shot with the .20 Tac as the whizzer is due for it's 20K maintenance :) Still deciding which bullet for the WSSM, been shooting the 70gr Nosler and the results so far are good. But would like get a little more speed.

The first one is a poor yote that I picked up night hunting on Friday night. Night hunting is tough on an old guy like myself. Didn't make it out Sat i was to shot from Friday. Did make it out Sunday, called in 4 and dropped 3. I watched the pair come in over 600 yds away and it took them almost 15 min's before i shot them at about 60 yds. I watched the single come in over 300 yds it took him 10 min's to close the gap. Looks like one should make at least 20 minute sets. :dunno:
-
Bullelk, your photos are not showing up for me :dunno:
Good job anyways. I love it when I can see 'em coming from a long ways out, usually I can get in a nap before the lead flies :chuckle:

Had a great day of hunting yesterday. I missed one that came into my set up about 3min into it. Caught me completley off gaurd, hurried my shot and shot over him at 250yrd. :bash:
Then had another encounter with 2 groups , witch lead to howling at each other for over a hour. No kills there either. Third, set up at a new spot, called wwaited, got up to leave after 20min and didn't notice there was a yote in the brush about 200yrd. He started his barking , then turned on the jets once I stood up.
Fun day, With I could of let the air out of that 1st one. :sry:

There might still be hope for me yet- Just picked up a new rifle this week :IBCOOL: Remington 22-250 varmint with a bull barrel and camo synthetic stock. Harris bi-pod 12-24. topped with a Bushnell 6x18x50
Heading to Spokane in the am and I hope I get there early enough to sight it in. If all goes well I'll be hunting coyotes on Saturday. Or I might have to sight it in on Sat. which would still be fun.

The first yote was a female, had to shoot her at 240 yds, she came in to within 150 yds didn't like something and tried to leave, NOT! The second was funny, I was sitting next to the road waiting for Big10 to pick me up. I heard a yote in the distance so i got the call out and responded. Two mins later it was a lot closer, about 10 mins and 3 different sounds later I shot him 100 yds off the road. :dunno:

Good job Big10.
VV and I went out yesterday for a couple of hours, we saw a total of 7 dogs. We had a pair at 296 yards but we would have been shooting through some tall grass and were concerned that our bullets would deflect and not make it to the target for clean kills so we passed. Two other dogs were on a hillside 850 yards out so we played with them for about 30 minutes barking and howling at each other, it was pretty cool to have an ongoing ass-kicking threat session with this pair. They didn't want to come our way and of course we couldn't get to them due to wide open chiseled ground that we would have had to cover for the distance, so we threw challenge barks and howls at them. They stood their ground though and made it quite interesting. We will try to get out again this week to create more havoc among the population and hold up our end of the load. Hopefully, there will be a willing participant that will want to play and be photographed for this months issue of Dog-Be-Dead. :chuckle:
-
Okay so today, I'm at home tinkering on projects, waiting for my new bed to arrive and I page back through all of my photos of the dogs I killed and found these two photos that never got put up so here they are now.

Lol! Gringo, I'd love to, but it's been that poor. Big dog looked 40, but scaled 38. Had a bum hind leg as well, but you'd have never noticed it running away. :chuckle: It's horn picking season, and I'm through.

Great job MTN muley.. as expected

1 more for SBA
I ran the camera all day not able to get Big10's on film, sorry (rookie mistakes). The last call of the day I put the camera away, this nice male showed up at 80 yds. Resting on a fence post is not a good rest, did get the job done. Lucky :IBCOOL:

1 more for SBA
Went out today, had to battled the wind all day. Was able to call in two dogs, one didn't make it out, the other one winded us and left like a shot.
-
Great job guys. I just got back in from an night hunt, saw one dog and that was it. By the time we got light on it and the rifle up, it was gone :bash: Too much wind blowing all weekend here, hopefully this week will bring some calm weather and a dog or two. It's 9:20pm and i'm beat......Goodnite :hello:

2 more for SBA
Didn't have to work today, so I decided to try a new area with some new dogs. It turned out OK, was able to call in 3 dogs in 6 calls but only put 2 on the ground. The other one winded us again, my stupidity :bash: on the set up. You think a guy would learn from his mistakes from the past, not me. >:(

What are you doing Thursday or Friday or Saturday?

Nothing, nothing, & nothing. Just go hit my usual spots. Get a hold of me if something comes up.
Or if anyone wants to take this rookie out. Hit me up.

No hunting here today, too much big wind going on out there, think I'll just stay home and tinker.

I need some help. Some of you guys that have killed more than a few, what are you doing to stop the 2nd, 3rd or 4th coyote after the shot? I have tried numerous things with the caller including a howl, pup distress, prey distress. I also tried using my voice doing anything from woofing to a long wolf howl. In short it seems like I have exhausted everything and nothing seems to let me get another shot off.
One more for MNT.

Ki-yi's once in a while, but even that isn't very often that I ever seen unless it's at the 500-600 yd mark. Most of the time they are getting out of there as fast as they can. What would you do, your buddy or mate just got splattered all over the ground, are you going to stick around wondering when round #2 is coming? :chuckle: :chuckle: Probably not. :twocents: Nice job on the dogs.

That is what 30 round mags are for :mgun2:

You talked me into it, I'll report back Wednesday!

Good luck to any of you that have a chance to make it out for the last day of the Madness.
VarmintVentilator and I will be making one last attempt to bring the dogs in before the end of the day. We have been seeing plenty but just cannot get them to commit. :dunno:
It's been a lot of fun anyway!!

bah.....somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 stands in the last 6 weeks, probably 200 for the contest and no dogs. only took one shot. frustrated to say the least...
-
Well, today was another bust, no dogs killed but we did see a total of 7 within about 30 minutes. They were just too eager to carry on with their own business chasin' mouses rather than come to the call. Then the wind picked up again and we called it a day by 10:30.
-
Falfire, what are you using for a rifle?
-
Falfire, what are you using for a rifle?
I usually use my Tikka 22-250, but on occasion, I'll take one of my AR's either 223, 243WSSM or 6x45. This time of year when the chance of calling in a pair is common, I'll take an AR, but I really don't use 30 round mags :chuckle: normally just a 5 round mag
-
What can you tell me about the .243 wssm?
-
What can you tell me about the .243 wssm?
The 243WSSM is a great little round that can give you an edge in velocity over the standard 243Win round, not much, but some and of course that too depends on barrel quality and length. The only major downside to the WSSM is the brass, some people complain that they cannot find it, although I have never found that to be the case, usually it is stocked regularly by several suppliers both internet and local, depending on where you are. The brass is thick, I mean real thick and seems to last forever was long as you don't go overboard on your reloads by pushing the envelope on powder charges. Resizing takes a little getting used to, it takes a little more effort to resize the brass but once you get the hang of it, things begin to go smoothly as in any other reloading.
Mine is a 10 twist 20 inch barrel, I purchased it used fom the gun show in Puyallup years ago. It is a factory Oly Arms upper and has turned in some awesome one hole 5 shot groups in the .3's using the Barnes 72gr. flat based varmint bullets. However, normally, I'll get 1" groups with just about any of the more common bullets i.e. V-Max, Noslers, Sierra stuff. Keep in mind I do all of my testing at 150 yards with a 200 yard zero mainly because most of my kills are right around 150 yards give or take a yard and at 300 yards I'm still easily on hair for a hit.
Velocities and BC's are what make a good coyote gun, especially when you are shooting in wind and where I hunt, we get wind. The 95gr Ballistic Tips perform really well on both coyotes and deer well out to "Oh my God" range, plus they fit well in the WSSM's short case and standard AR15 magwell. You can shoot 105' or 108's but to get maximum effeciency, you may need to modify the magazine slightly to stretch the OAL some.
Factory ammo is available if you do not reload, but I thought that you did, I may be wrong :dunno:
You can get a lightweight barrel from Mile Milli at http://www.dtechsuperstore.com/ Mike will build you a rifle or an upper that will twist your mind in accuracy, but it could take a while to get one delivered, he is super busy building custom guns but it's worth the call any ways. Personally, I would opt for a 22" light profile 8 twist and keep the rest of the setup as light as possible, AR's can get heavy pretty quickly.
Magazines.....You can modify any 20 round G.I. mag to fit and feed the WSSM case, it's really easy to do so no need to buy special mags. The only real catch to it all is the WSSM AR is not something you can build yourself unless you already have the machined upper and bolt carrier group. There are slight modifications that are required to machining of these uppers that need to be left to the smith that knows what he is doing.
Now.......All that said, Oly Arms is now making their factory GameStalker rifle that uses a slightly longer mag well, this will benefit the WSSM shooter in a big way. It will allow the use of the longer VLD bullets for maximum long distance shooting and the lower is compatible with standard AR15 uppers. This is exciting news and something I would look into if I were looking at the WSSM offering. It will accept the newer longer magazines which will compliment the WSSM and 22-250 calibers and that's a good thing.
I hope this helps

Wow! thats a lot of info. Thanks. In your experience, is it realistic to think of saving fur with any of the .243 wssm loads?
-
Wow! thats a lot of info. Thanks. In your experience, is it realistic to think of saving fur with any of the .243 wssm loads?
VarmintVentilator uses 95 grain Ballistic Tips in his 243Win, I use 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips in my 243Win. We have both found that the Noslers are somewhat of a tough bullet and in many cases make a small exit hole that can easily be sewn up by the taxi. The V-Max bullets tend to blow the crap out of the pelts leaving them, for the most part, useless. Now that doesn't mean that every time we shoot a dog with a Ballistic Tip that we end up with perfect pelts but we have found the Noslers tend to be more forgiving in most kills. Again, the velocity differences between the two calibers (243Win and 243WSSM) is not a determining factor of bullet fragmentation.
So for the sake of saving fur, the 243 is not your best choice to begin with, but you can get by with it by using certain bullets and being careful where you place it on the animal. If I were to build an AR15 for a long range target gun (600) yards, I would opt for the Grendel, 6BR or 6.5BR because the brass is top quality from Lapua, but for coyotes, even the WSSM is a fine choice. Don't get caught up in the old BS of "Well I can load factory magazines with 20 rounds in my 6.5XXXXX whatever. For coyotes, a single shot works just as well and you really shouldn't need more than 2 or 3 rounds on a pair of dogs, anything over 3 shots on a pair is slinging' lead into the atmosphere and is worthless spent ammo. For the fun factor, I have sent lead flying a time or 12 but usually I'll send one or two and call it good.
-
Wow! thats a lot of info. Thanks. In your experience, is it realistic to think of saving fur with any of the .243 wssm loads?
FalFire summed it up great. Personally, to me, the 243wssm isn't too realistic of a pelt-saving gun. My favorite this time of year when the pelts basically rubbed and not suitable to sell. Talk about some knock-down devistation with a larger grained v-max bullet!
-
Falfire, could you repeat that? :chuckle: :chuckle: You should be out hunting with him and make the mistake asking about an AR. So much for any dogs coming in. :chuckle:
-
I would like to go with some of you guys sometime to see how my calling techniques compare to others. That last coyote I posted, I took Raul Duke out and showed him how to howl in a coyote. We had another one but I made a preventable mistake. We setup calling uphill to a treeline and had one howl at us so I knew he was up there. Kept up my sequence and about 10-15 minutes Raul finally said there he is. He talked me onto him and I got him in the binocs. After trying a bunch of different sounds I realized he wasn't coming in. I asked Raul to get a yardage, he said 290. I asked if he could make the shot, he thought he could. So I told him to "go ahead whenever he is ready, you got plenty of time, don't rush it". He shot while I was watching through binocs and I saw fur fly but he took off like he wasn't hit bad. Right away I told him we probably won't recover that one but you hit it anyway. We picked up the call on our way to go check out where the coyote was and right away I saw why it wouldn't come any closer. From the coyotes view, he could see the call easily but from our view we couldn't see that the coyote could see it. He was seeing exactly where the sound was coming from but he couldn't see the animal(s) making the sounds. Anyway I struck out today, too windy and too cold and too snowy. I was hoping to finish the contest real strong. The reason I asked about getting the 2nd, 3rd and 4th coyotes to stop after the shot was because last Thursday we called in 12 coyotes and only got 3. There was two groups of 4 and 2 sets of doubles. Friday we called in 7 more, a triple and a group of 4, and once again we only got 3.
-
Well crap! For some reason I thought we had to the end of the month. O well here are some I was saving. 24 for TDF.
-
OUCH! Just a day to late. That is a nice pile of dogs as well
-
Great job Ken, looks like you were plenty busy.
Kind of sorry to see the Madness come to a close but time to get back to work and create something exciting or not! :dunno: :chuckle:
Great job everyone, I had fun and I hope everyone else did as well. Not sure what the final count is but I'm sure we all prevented a few deer from becoming happy meals for coyotes.
Maybe next year will be even better :brew:
-
I haven't seen any final tallies, but I'm sure a dent was made in the coyote population.
I'd just like to take this opportunity to congratulate the guys that stepped up to join Team Maybe Next Time. Even though we didn't win, you guys exceeded my expectations, with no help out of me. I still had fun, and am not sorry we got into the event with all its fits and starts.
Maybe next time I won't have to fly back east right in the middle of everything. Good job, guys!
Dave

:yeah:
Way to stick it out. I want to thank my team. This was my first year hunting yotes. What a experience. I apologize I didn't put up the #'s, but I did get out there, and it was a learning experience. I had a blast , and made some new friends.
Thanx, PredatorPro, Aer212, DontGetCrabs, and HereDoggyDoggy. Also Kim204 & 204ChuckNorris, Thanx for taking the time to teach this rookie.

hey dont worry raul! compared to SBA we all suck, i think that team pretty much took every prize...lol its all fun anyways...id be out hunting coyotes no matter what! ill be back at it again out here in a few weeks when they arent pressured so hard! so keep it up!! if you call them...they will come...
-
so where is a final picture of the dogpile?
-
Hey guys, fantastic year with some heavy hitters out there for stacking them up. SBA....what a team! I think the only chance we have to ever top them again is to do a Dogpile Cory TDF merger. Either that or get Fal-fire a job :chuckle:
so where is a final picture of the dogpile?
It doesn't look much different than before, you get it built up pretty good and it seems to settle or sink back down to where it was. BTW, anyone looking for any coyote skulls? I'm sure the pile of years past wouldn't mind some rummaging.
Hats off to you guys!
Gringo
-
I'm game Gringo! lets change the rules just for us. :chuckle:
-
Great job this year to everyone. I'm not sure what the total number was, every time I count I have a different number. I think SBA might have broke the 150 mark with Big10 and Bullelk flat putting the hammer down on a boat load of dogs. The number of dogs they killed just by themselves was amazing. I almost felt like a cheerleader instead of a shooter on the team. Get that AR reloaded Gringo, there'll be more next year. You and Swag always do a great job of making a big Dogpile.
-
I just want to say great job to my team mates and the other 17 teams. I had a great time this year putting dogs on the ground, plus letting a few lucky ones get away for next years crop. ( not on purpose :o) Team Dogpile and Team DeadFowl always a pleasure competing against you guys, very tough. All I can say, it will be nice to sleep in on the weekends for a change. :IBCOOL: Great job everybody again, can't wait until next year.....
-
:yeah:
-
Why does everyone say "Cant wait until next year" ????
So the next event wont start until 2013???
-
To hunters, the year starts in September.
-
Wow!!! What a year... Great job to all of you guys who hit it hard & stacked up the Dogs.
Ol Gringo won’t leave me alone about getting these last couple of dogs posted up, it doesn’t really matter but at least I won’t have to listen to him for the rest of the year... He shot these 2 on the 26 of January I just have not had time to get them posted up...

I don't think it's any surprise that the SBA team took top honors. Congratulations to those dedicated coyote-getters!
What really surprised me is that we tied for 5TH PLACE!
Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm going to be honing my skills on the dogs that are still out there, and hopefully will be in a better trim for Coyote Madness V. Until then--Maybe Next Time! :chuckle:

I'm with you. After getting skunked all winter after hitting it hard, im determined to get better. Actually had a few dogs come in the last couple weeks, but have only put one down since March 1. My goal for the next 12 months is 100 dogs.
-
Well for me, I'll be waiting until next fall to get after them again, this time of year is good to let the mama dogs have their pups so we have more targets next season. I am totally inundated with working on my home right now, I have been working on my kitchen for the past couple of weeks and haven't given one thought about coyotes since my last trip out in February. Plus I'm still looking forward to putting a deck on the old bunkhouse during the warmer weather that's coming.

And wile I was going threw the whole thead for a second time. I was looking at the pics. This is 1 of 2, I really liked (from page 30) . The other involed a Texas Heart Shot :chuckle:. So I'd like to nominate SWAG for best pic.
I almost forgot to post this little guy, I got him coming out of the pasture next door, the day after all of the Freezing rain. Even after he took a serving of 168 grain A-max he still didn’t want to give the goose up.

Thanks again Raul Duke.
Gringo and CamoKen, it looks like a tie, do you both agree with that count?
-
 Man, how could I forget CamoKen. 122 coyotes between Gringo and CamoKen, dang that is alot of dogs between the two. Amazing.  I'd like to see Gringo's reloading room. :chuckle:
-
I'd like to see Gringo's reloading room.
:chuckle:
Either that or the pallet of rounds that I buy at a time? :chuckle: :chuckle:
I had 63 in my mind but I'm thinking those 2 that Swag posted late probably didn't count? Even with 63 I'll catch hell from Swag as I told him my goal was 65. You just can't please some people :chuckle:
Looking at the numbers this is my take:
CamoKen - 61 Total Sleeper! We just got to get him to tell his stories of the kills a bit more. Too much carnage not to share.
Bullelk - 48 is rockin and with video to boot! Most impressed with the video
Big10gauge- 43 is not too shabby for someone who hunted about half of the time. I think he hunts half the time open sights and in hunter orange to keep it fair.
FALFire - 32 seemed like less that I would have guessed. I know I was about to put a few ads in the paper to find you a job ;)
Swag - 25 Solid showing for my bud "The Professor", he puts in a lot of effort. Oh, the nick name is due to his abilty to "educate" coyotes. :o
kim204 - 21 Another sleeper and solid perfomance and I thought he had more than 21
MtnMuley - 16 I'm still waiting for his 2nd and 3rd pic to come out. I think SBA just didn't post them as they already beat 2nd place by 50 dogs :yike:
VarmintVentilator - 13 has got to be a typo. Either that or he only counted the ones he shot over 450 yards.
All in all....once again this has been a hoot. SBA are true champs and I'm thinking I'm going to have to relish the ONE time I've seen them beaten, they get out, get after it, burn the shoe leather, can flat out shoot and have a lot of fun doing it. I'm lucky and work to keep the dogs away from livestock and its nice for the dogs to be coming from wherever into your area.
I hunt much of the same ground and it appears that it takes 2.5-3 months to rid them from my area. That last month the last 2 years has been brutal. The dogs are just MIA and no more seem to want to move into the area. :dunno:
Again, I'm most impressed with the video posted this year. That is top notch!
Gringo

Congratulations guys! I joined this contest for the first time last year and ended with zero coyotes for our team so it feels good to contribute and place. I had more time this year so going from zero last year to 20 or whatever we had this year was awesome! Hopefully next year we can build on that and maybe get to 50. We figured out some stuff this year that should help a bunch next year. One other thing, I see on a lot of sites that people are saying the coyote hunting has been REAL slow this year. Well I'll tell you, I have never had a better year especially late in the season. Most of my kills were from January on to the end.
-
It was fun to give it a brief shot on the wetside...glad I could contribute my whopping 1 dog!
Special thanks to Hunt WA for putting it on, and a special thanks to all the predator hunters out there who saved a fawn, killed a coyote. :hunter:

Other Prizes:
1. Highest Scoring Member ------- "Hunting High Country Mule Deer" by Mike Eastman ("like new" rare hard cover book donated by bobcat)
2. Member Taking Most Coyotes -- 2012 Muley Madness Calender by boneaddict
3. Most Coyotes In 12 Hrs --------- H-W Window Decal (donated by Kain)
4. Heaviest Coyote ----------------- Special Wolf Howler (donated by bearmanric "R.R. Game Calls")
OK, so, I need to know who to send the Mike Eastman book to.
The "highest scoring member" and the "member taking most coyotes" is probably going to be the same person, correct? Since I think we're talking about only east side coyotes here, so they're worth the same points.
Or in this case, it's the same TWO people- CamoKen and Gringo31. Which works out well, since you tied for two prizes. Maybe you can decide between the two of you who gets which prize? If not, we'll have to have you pick a random number or something, I guess. :dunno:
Oh, and thanks so much guys for taking out so many fawn killers!

We recounted gringo's dogs and came up with 61 again.
Page # Coyotes taken
page 26 #'s 48,49,50
page 30 #'s 51,52,53,54,55,56,57,58,59
page 39 #'s 60,61
On page 30, post #477? gringo posted up #59 and claims "that should make 60". If we missed something here it was by mistake, but please help us be sure this is right, we want to be correct.
As soon as we have this count decided for sure, if it is a tie, I propose that we give one of them the book and one of them the calendar. I think we should let them decide which prize they prefer unless they both want the same prize.
Waiting for a response from gringo and camoken.... :) :dunno:
-
If you need more prizes let me know. Great job every one. Rick
-
I trust your count, in my mind I had 63 and just assumed those last two that were posted were posted too late. Works for me. Let CamoKen take his pic being the newcomer and all.....
-
:o One coyote? I guess ill have to try harder next year :sry:

-
Wish i could be a moderator some day. Was cool hanging out with the big boys at the Predatormasters hunt in new mexico this year was a fun time .Good luck Rual Duke. Will be a fun year. Rick
-
Great Raul Duke! Just don't talk to T-Brad, he might shy you away from your committment :chuckle:
Photos.....I had a hard time with this one. On one hand, Swag's pic is one that will probably never be duplicated at least not by him. Especially the scenario where I was catching those frozen geese the day before, didn't tell him and he sends me that pic the next day.
Bullelk's video are not as unique and there are lots of videos out there. It is something I've done in the past and have ruined too many stands by trying to get the right footage and screwed up the hunt. In a setting where we are counting dogs as a part of a contest, for him to take the time to video, post up for us all to share is top notch.
Sorry Swag.....that is an awesome pic, but I gotta vote for the videos.
-
Thanx again guys. :hello:
