And that my friend is Ignorance at it's best. I don't see the need to make a video as if your bragging that you forced an animal to jump off a cliff. Maybe it's just me but it makes me think of an aircraft that was flown into a building that forced men and women to jump to their death because they had no other choice. :bash: :bash: :bash:

Crazy!

One more video for the peta people to use agaisnt us.. Great.. Did they really have to potray it that way? I could think of a couple different ways to talk about that instance.

exactly what i was thinkin guys...couldnt believe someone put it on there...and they were glad it was closer to the road after it jumped and it was tender...
-
It was an incredible situation worthy of filming and sharing. Normally this wouldn't be mildy unethical. How many times have elk been shot that have taken a tumble down a cliff or hillside? My last bull took quite the spill down a hill. (Please tell me there are some of us on here whose ethics are that they WOULDN'T take that shot....)
But I agree with Ross, Jager, and DeerHunter. The music and some of the commentary put it over the top. And the hippies will use it for thier cause.
Ranger, I agree with your statement about the ignorance factor. I don't agree with your analogy with elk hunt vs. 9-11. The video was an awesome hunting opportunity that is portrayed with the potential for skewed perception. 9-11 was a frickin tradjedy that this video doesn't hold a candle to.
-
Looks like some hunters were raised without ethics :twocents:

I guess his dreams about being a pegasus just weren't true.

Wow, wish I could just smack that hunter along side the head with a 2x4. Knock some damn sense into their thick skull. That *censored* just pisses me off. We have enough problems with the way we are perceived as hunters by the rest of the population. We do not need this crap floating around on Youtube and other places.
Poor ethics is just the start.
-
I really dont see anything unethical about this. They shot an elk standing on a cliff. It fell off the cliff. Just like 90% of goat hunts and no one seems to care about that. The way the video was presented was terrible and I would never put something like that up on the interne though.
-
pretty much a d**k move to put music to it and make a "hunting video" out of it. to each there own i guess. sometimes i think we do more damage to our own reputation than the anti's out there.
-
I will agree that the video was distasteful but the antis will always hate you to the core, nothing you will ever be able to do about that.
-

:bash: :bdid:
I am not sure I would of taken the shot...feels kinda wrong well plus I dont think I want to gutshoot an elk and that was the only shot I could see :dunno:
anti's will enjoy it I am sure it reinforces their view of the evil cruel unethical hunter
-
i know the anti's will always hate us, but i was refering more about people who dont neccessarily hunt themselves but make back what we do. Just not a video that i would use to argue that hunters are always ethical and care about the game we chase.
-
Now that is taking it back to the ancestors when they ran buffalo off the cliffs. That is even more traditional than the long bow.

But tell me do you really want to smack him up side the head with a 2x4, just one time?? Or do you want to have him standing by a cliff and giving him the option to jump or get another one?? That is my thought.
I just can't figure out how someone so stupid was actually able to work the camera though. They are making them things way to easy to operate.

it looked to me like they shot the thing, it started to wobble and went off the cliff. i would think that the elk would run towards the hunter and up the cliff before it would jump. i dont see anything wrong with the hunt other than not having a good shot. the video was untrue and untasteful, but hey he thought he was cool. :dunno:
-
he could have backed off kind of out of sight and waited for the elk to come back away from the edge and put it down with a second shot
-
Wow good job you homo that video makes me sick >:(
-
Ok here is my question does anyone see the elk jump off the cliff! I know I don't! :stirthepot: looks to me like he was trying to get to the other side and didn't quite make it
-
That is a crazy video
-
things happen in the woods that are of your control as a hunter but to put in on video and add music to it is as heartless as it comes. Why the hell did you even post that thing, are you somewhat proud of it or did you think we would be more impressed than we are?
-
I'm not sure what ya'll are talkin about? Maybe we have gotten conditioned to seeing people shoot critters on video and then high fiving and celibrating while watching it die...
This isn't any different as far as i can tell... Is it just that we have been conditioned to the other so much that something new pops up and we are "shocked"?
You can find any hunting video of criters dying and people celebrating that the anti-hunters can pick and choose from... they are gonna do it no matter what.
That was def a different kill scene and i'm sure the hunter didn't expect it to go that way.

Even though this video sickens me I keep coming back to read replies. I post a thread about respect of animals and photos and was called "yuppy" and that we worry to much about what the antis think. This was exactly what I was talking about. He shot elk. Elk goes out to edge. Either becomes weak and falls, or choices to jump. Not sure which. Not the important part. That where it should have ended. But NO some *censored* films it and puts on internet. Now everyone is up in arms. :dunno: What the difference in this and the kinda pictures I spoke of?
-
What is wrong with some people!? Shame on them for sharing that with the world. Morons.
-
maybe it should be pulled, set a  standard for the site
-
the reason everyone is upset is theres no reason to post an elk jumping to his death...i know you cant see it all but the way it was portrayed in the video wasnt good on "our" image...the anti's look for any reason possible to throw it back at us....yeah all of the hunting shows have deer/elk/ bear being killed but there clean shots...they dont show animals being cornered on a cliff and them jumping off...like i said in a earlier post the hunter should have backed off and hoped the elk would have felt safe enough to back track from the edge to make another shot and put the elk down...im sure it happens more than we all think..but you dont see everyone posting it on youtube for the world to see....the hunter should have more respect for the animal than that...i know i would....ive been archery hunting elk for 6 years and have yet to harvest one...ive had plenty of opportunity for shots..they would have been very risky shots and i chose not to take them for fear of loosing the animal and having more respect for the elk

I remember your post, I believe we was called, tree huggers, or bunny huggers, also yuppies, and photo police it was. ;)

Yes we were. :chuckle:

You can see the elk cornered and the guy shot it... then it jumped/fell off the ridge...
Not the most respectful video on the web, but if we pull that one, we are gonna spend a lot of time pulling youtube videos and not purchasing 99% of the hunting video's out there....
I think the guy was taking a shot at anti's in the youtube clip based on his notes about being tender.
As far as the hunt he showed, there is nothing unethical about the way he did it... dead elk is a dead elk... at least he didn't shoot it from 900 yards and hit it in the gut....
Could ask the guy to do his video a little more tastefuly I guess... but if you're gonna be consistent, you're gonna be busy with most hunting videos.

:yeah: to all of that, I wouldn't have shot at that bull for the fact that if I dumped it where it stood I wouldn't want to be field dressing a bull that close to a cliff. Clearly it had nowhere to go and only in time it would have came out for a better shot, or pushed out.
-
I just felt the way they seemed to glorify the "options".... not cool.
I have shot game that fell a long ways down. Hated to see it, would surely not have shared it with others.
-
Chit happens sure enough. We've all had things go south on us despite our best intentions. But does everything need to be posted on Youtube and such? C'mon man.
-
the infatuation with having to see these things on tv and the net,do bother me..But to glorify it in a way that is tasteless, really irks me...if that makes sense to anyone
-
If it wasn't for the comments that the person put on the video about the elk only having two options and the elk landing closer to road I would have no problem with it. The comments were class less and puts hunters in a bad light.
-
To respond to the dude bitching about how his subject about photos and this compare...this video is a living ekk on a cliff presenting a gut or texas heart shot being shot and driven over a cliff to plunge to its death...if he had simply taken a pic of the dead elk with a budweiser can and a cigar jammed in its mouth there would be les of an ethical issue...in my bunny hugging tree loving environmental dumb emotional girl opinion
and its just an opinion so iy is worthless ...

I couldn't agree more. I make no apologies or bones about the fact that I kill what I eat, and I'm not ashamed to make that know to non-hunters. However, I could never put something like this up and feel like it was the right thing to do.
I could care less about anti-hunters. However, I do care about people like my brother and sister-in-law, and the remaining majority of the VOTING PUBLIC, who don't hunt but can easily accept the fact that I do because of how I go about it.

:yeah: or sheep...people on here cease to amaze me.... shooting animals that have feelings and shouldnt cause they have a fawn or a calf hell maybe they didnt shoot said bull cause the hunter knew its dad and done enough damge to its family so he passed..waiting for that on here
-
I got no problem with how he killed the bull. Now the video? Well thats a personal choice.
I find no harm in how an animal is killed, as long as it is a shot that is the best choice to to put the animal down with little or no suffering.
If you can do this at 30 yds or a 1000 who really cares......
RTSPRING

so tired of the term "FUEL" for the antis... we hunt!!! therefore there is ALWAYS FUEL!! PERIOD :bash:
-
Well, my :twocents: on the matter is this, I don't care in the method at which was used to harvest this animal but, I do care in which the presentation was made.
-
Go to you tube and post a comment, maybe the guy will pull it off. You can find it at Elk Jumps off Cliff. Surely not the smartest poster.

True anti's aren't our problem. Anti hunters don't need any fuel or excuse, our hunting is the problem. However, we don't really have a battle just against "anti's". We don't control our destiny because there are no hunting rights, just privileges.
When it comes down to it, average joe citizen get's asked from time to time to vote for or against our privileges. They can be massaged to believe that we have no honorable tradition in hunting if we can be painted as enjoying animal suffering or taking glee in an elk going off a cliff. Antis will hate no matter what. But for a group of people who rely on john q public, who doesn't hunt, to continue our pastime, some policing of our image is a really good idea.
-
His additude towards it probably could have been a bit better in the video yeah, but thats not somthing that happens everyday and kinda thought it was interesting to see. He obviously points out that they used the expired animal so I really dont see the big problem. If the animal was about to be harvested no matter what...then the guy really didnt do anything wrong. Other than his word choice, I dont see what everyones pissing and moaning about.
