I know it's a bit early and the bears are all tucked away in their dens right now, but does anyone have any plans for 2012 yet? I have already bought my 2012 Idaho Hunting License and I will be chasing bears and baiting bears over there again this year. Really hoping for a much better year than I had this year....couldn't get any worse. I had one bear hit my bait site and that was the last weekend of the spring season. Didn't get to bait any of the areas I wanted to and with the late snow it was a slooow spring. But then I managed to only find three bear rigs for the dogs this year and all three of those were in some heavy wolf areas, so I never made a single tree this year with the dogs. It was also my first year back into the dogs and between slowly getting new gear and new dogs back, we were...I was not as prepared as I should have been. This year will be different and hopefully better. I have dogs, equipment, new snowmobile, new 4 wheeler and a new saddle mule. So hopefully after spending the winter chasing lions and bobcats with the dogs in ID, I can get after the bears next year as well. So what are your plans for 2012?
-
I will put in for spring bear here, that is really the only time I like to hunt bear.then just regular hunts, moose and a cow elk drawing
-
i will also be putting in for spring bear, hopefully buyin 2nd bear tag after that for fall season
-
Hope to get another skagit tag :chuckle: :o I had a great hunt and got help from a good friend on here. I don't think I will ever beat the bear I killed last year, but it's always fun to try  I need to call this year! Last year I did not find any time for it. I need to this year.

Machias, if you ever want someone to go along with you, I have snowmobiles and ATV's and willing to travel. Let me know, I'd love to go chase some kittys or bears.
Rasbo, send me a copy of you avatar pic, that is awsome.
-
Planning on general spring hunt over here in MT. Saw 2 of the biggest bears ive ever seen in the crazys while scouting for elk this summer.
-
Puttin in for spring bear....depending on how that goes...
I will hit 'bearadise' with either my bow, rifle or camera.
When Aug comes, will go out a few times early in season....hit it harder at sept gets older....
near the end of season, I will call up in the snow like i did this year....see what happens...
God willing....and bears willing...
Good luck in Idaho, I was debating about doing an Idaho hunt for em....looks fun...
-
I think I'm going to try and do a spring bear hunt in Oregon if I don't draw here in Washington. Currently don't have major plans for the August season, I probably will look for bears in the cascades while scouting for deer I suppose.
-
I just thought about it and come up with the idea of h20hunter and I putting in for the Monroe tag together and both shooting bears. Then hunting my normal spots come August. What do you say H20hunter sound like a plan?
-
Dude...I'm in. Monroe tag it is. Guranteed. By the way...almost picked up some bacon gum while at D&D.
-
Think I better put in for some spring tags this year ....never done it
-
I was looking at one of my other favorite websites and found some of those Bacon favor edible thongs I think those and the gum and we got it made.

Ill send you mine to if ya got any other pics

Ma'am put the gun down and raise your hands!!! :yike:
-
I'm gonna try my hand, in Aug, on Ft. Lewis, with my bow. Not sure what will happen; I havn't been hunting for bear since I was 17. What's the worst that can happen, I bag one? ;)
-
New to bear hunting on the westside but I bought a Sno Hancock permit, and will try and draw Monroe as well (since I live in Duvall). Then off to eastern for WTs, turkey, and elk.
-
My only mission is to kill one with my bow. I have killed a handful with a gun but not been able to loose an arrow at one. I have been close several times but I am going to make it a mission this year. I have only hunted Washington and wasn't bowhunting back in the baiting days....man I miss those days! It is going to be tough to kill one with a bow and no bait but I know it can be done.
-
Kick that bears ass Seabass!
Sorry....can't help but make a Dumb and Dumber reference....
I hope you get one with a bow as well.
-
hell with it i am just gonna start baitn again, see if i get caught.. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :yike:. thats when i will hunt bear again when its legal, so probably never :'( :'(
-
I only have one on the wall from rifle, but I'd really like to take one with pistola. My 17yr old wants one too. I don't think we'll have time for spring bear. We'll have to put some time in the high country if the snows and blueberries cooperate. My favorite haunts last year were void of omnivores during the late season. I want to try some more calling too. The only one I saw this year was well out of range. (the big one that was chasing three doe's up a ridge!)

I love it! I could probably make an entire 2 page post using no original thoughts or sentences...just movie dialouge.

apply for spring bear permit, hunt my areas again hard this season, and probly head over to the east side. to try for the big bugger me and jack of all trades saw chasing does around on a ridge out of range,

If your wanting to see bears that are out in the open areas..your best chances are August and the first 2 weeks of September..after that bear hunting gets difficult as bears get off the south and west faces where the berries once were and into the timber

My best times seeing bears out in the open is from June through August. I have hunted spring bear and before June really don't see much. This year I have gotten over 1500 pictures of bears. Many different sizes, ages and colors.
I get most of my pics with my hand held camera when the grasses are green and lush or when the berries are out. My trail cams pick up many in the middle of the night. I just am amazed at how they can see in the middle of a dark night in the dark woods. I have learned that when we feared the boogey man at night as kids, that they really do exist.
I have killed them as close as 20 feet and that is very exciting to be that close to one. The one that I killed at 20 feet field dressed at 360 pounds. I was deer hunting and it just came out of the thick brush just about right on top of me, suprised the heck out of me.
-
Im feeling all itchy and scratchy for some spring bear...hope to get drawn this year, seeing there are no bears in hancock kapowsin please dont put in for it...If your not going to buy the permit dont put in for it and complain if ya get drawn..
-
That will be my first choice.
-
This is my plan :chuckle:
2012 BLACK BEAR Application Type: Group
Hunt Choice Number Hunt Number Hunt Name Drawing Outcome
1 7017 KAPOWSIN SELECTED

:bash: :bash: :bash: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :hello:
-
I will put in for Monroe and Skagit again this year. I have 4 points so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
-
I finally have my .06 down here and am planning on using it to kill a best in August in the high country. Killing the bear will be easy, getting the meat out will be the tough part! I'm not shooting anything over 200lbs back where I go in the olympics there would be no way to get it out in one trip.
I also have a couple of reprod sections in 454 that got hammered by bears last August and I am planning on hanging a stand and killing one with my bow.
-
I'm long overdue for Spring tag. That hunt along with several fall trips are on my agenda.
-
To Kill one :chuckle: :dunno:
-
can you apply for spring bear online?
-
Last year I ate a spring tag in Or, spring tag in Wa, and didnt get one in the fall. I tryed all year with a muzzleloader seen 30 or more. I suck. So this year going back to the 300 win. Going to shoot the 1st one I see.

That's laugh out loud funny now. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Will be back home from Afghanistan for bear season this year (not in time for spring though). My season got super-shortened last summer. Did a bit of bear hunting and I left before deer season. So, I read all your great posts and celebrated the hunts from afar! By the way, I ordered my bear license and paid for a special hunt on-line. There was no way to pick a special hunt (ghost hunt) on line, AND cougar was not combined with bear. What gives?
-
Living vicariously through all of your hunts and successes. So please post up!

I can't help you with your question, I don't buy WA bear or lion anymore and have never applied for a spring tag, but I wanted to say stay safe and get home quick as you can. Thank you!! :salute:

Will do, when do you have to leave? You stay safe as well over there, I know you're going to a fairly safe area, but be careful just the same.
-
I'll be back in April for hopefully 3+ weeks. Focus is on turkey hunting and getting some stuff done around the property....no bear hunting. I'll have to try for another BBQ at the cabin. Maybe a longest beard contest.
-
I plan on killing my first bear....
Just as I have planned for the last 20 years .... :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:

That first one this year is going to be really special for you!! It'll happen!
-
I'm headed to Alaska to meet my uncle who is a guide up there! Should be lots of fun, looking forward to it!
-
My plans are to fill my tag. I drew a spring tag and passed 3-4 bears and saw 18 if memory serves, many were first year cubs. Ended up coming home empty handed. I shattered my wrist a week before fall season so ended up eating my tag. I plan on hitting it hard in 2012
-
couple of hancock bears, mine and epq21
-
Just put in with 3 points on my side I may finally draw my first spring bear :IBCOOL:
-
If anything I'll go home to Maine and run the Ol' bluetick on one. He'll probably be to fat by then. :yike:
-
Hopefully draw a spring bear tag. IF not hunt Hancock for general season
-
Put 5 points into monroe. If I don't draw I won't hunt, too focused on elk.
-
Skagit spring with a couple point. General before archery deer hunting.
-
I got skunked last year. Saw more bear dropping piles in the North Cascades than I even saw on Prince of Wales Island, AK but did not see one single bear. I really want to get a black coat bear. I had sausage (Beer Snack and Garlic Snack) made from my 2010 bear and it was very good. A little drier than venison but everybody I offerred it to was very suprised at how good it tasted. I had it processed at Stewarts Meats in McKenna, WA. Next bear I want to get some breakfast sausage made. I just got my skull back from the taxidermist and should have my rug back in 2 months. Skull mounts are awesome!!! I would highly recommend it for anyone for a lasting trophy memory. It looks good and doesn't take up a lot of space to display.

Spring bear in Idaho... Me and the dogs cant wait. got some new pups that need to see a bunch of bears.
