Well sold my Built up 4 Runner, now I have an 86 Jeep cj-7.
The problem now is what to do to it, it came with a sb350, tf999 auto, D300, & D44 rear. I dont rock crawl anymore, need somthing for light snow wheelin and running some trails. Any ideas?
-
Maybe a small lift and 38.5x11 boggers and a locker up front. oh and a warn 8274 would be nice. what yr or 4runner did you have?
-
ARB, good heater, tire carrier w/ acces. attachements (high lift, fuel can, etc) oh and a pressurize water tank they are nice to have if you hit any mud and need something cleaned quick. 4 point harnesses, umm the list can go on and on and on lol
J.E.E.P. - Just Empty Every Pocket :chuckle:

Can-am 800 XT ATV and then put tracks on it...............

Strip it down to bare needs, Throw some toy axles under it with longfield 30 splines in the front, 6 shooter knuckles and hydro assist. 2.75" back space aluminum wheels and whatever fat tire 37" or less you like and float over the snow. If you want to keep the rear 44, drop the 30 up front and get a waggy 44 for the front. Load it with chromo shafts and bobby long or CTM joints and an ARB or detroit and buy some big fat tire. I ran 39.5 Iroks on my front 44 and rear 60 with chromos and bobby's joint for years and didnt have an issue. I was also running in the South at Tellico, windrock and local trails. It was beat on.

You trader :yike: got rid of the toy for a jeep! I also have a built 4runner.

Are you serious? Boggers? The most worthless tires ever, especially if he's planning on snow wheeling.
Sounds like you know the ropes but id say lock the front and rear, gear it, enough lift to clear 39.5" iroks or just chop it a bit.

I dont about the most worthless Id give that to the Thornbirds, look cool but pack up quick. I live on the muddy side and I like something that is tall and narrow to get down to something I can hold onto.

You already know about tires and lockers...the heater sux. Mount a spare up on a spindle with a spare hub. Keep a spare set of axles if you are gonna rock the 30 or as mentioned a 44 up front. I would run the 44 out back if you are mature with the right foot. I did the welder and compressor as well as a rear winch. I use the rear more than the front. I would STRONGLY suggest a bigger tank. I get 8-9mpg and hold 14gallons....no good! I did a 3/8" wall front drive shaft which stopped the bent shaft issues. I think a mild jeep on 35" bfg at's was the most fun I ever had.
-
The mild jeep thing is kind of what im looking for. 35MTs and lockers that kind of stuff.
I did the 39s on the toy, I dont want that anymore, I need more of a challange again.
-
Do a spring over and run some 35s. You will maintain a better ride, and have increased ground clearance. Throw a winch up front, a locker in the rear, and you will be able to go just about anywhere.
I have a SOA on my 82 CJ7 and love it. Did it myself for less than half the cost of buying a POS high arch, no travel lift kit. Let me know, I could give ya a hand with the SOA.

I have hot knifed thornbirds and have no issues with them getting packed up, they clean out nicely just don't stick your head out :chuckle:

Toy, I'm running a stock 304, TF 727, D300 w/ tera low 4:1, 30 front w/electric locker, 44 rear w/electric locker, disc all around, spring over wrangler springs, 4;56 gears on 35 MTR's and I pretty much only wheel snow anymore and this set-up works fantastic for me...run about 2 psi and crawl all over the place.

Toyman2, this is funny I’ve been Jeep guy most of my life. Now I’m in the slow process of building a 4runner on Tons as a family wheeler. I’m kind of glad my big game seasons have come to a wrap so I can start to focus on the Runner build. You should look at Pirate4x4.com for some build ideas. There are a millions Jeep build threads there.
-
Keep the rear 44 lose the 30 front. Throw in a waggy 44 front. 4.56gearsfor 33's or 4.88's for 35's. Pick up some jeep yj stock leaf springs for the SOA. They flex way nicer than cj springs. ARB's and cromo axles. you should be good to go.Just sold my 75 cj-5 set up this way and it went anywhere I wanted. Now I've got a 98 wrangler to build. Check out jeepforum.com they are knda like Pirate4x4 only not as many A$$holes
