I got my first collared goose today. My wife has been on my case about getting a Christmas goose (family tradition for years) but this is my first hunting season in WA and I was nervous about it.
I was hunting the Columbia and a flock flew by on the opposite bank, I tooted at them twice with my flute and sure enough the whole flock turned.
I picked out a bird and shot it and watched in satisfaction that it died instantly. I only wanted one so the rest of the flock left unharmed.
When my retriever picked the bird up I about fell over... A COLLAR!
Its white and says "XW__" (not gonna post the number). I tried reporting it but they said no info was found..?
How common are these? Has anyone else got a collared goose before?
I am pumped! :IBCOOL:
Merry Christmas for me!

Burleydog,
You said you were on the Columbia. I've helped F&G band and collar geese in Pasco and Kennewick and their neck collars are white. It seems to me that the letters may have been WX or close to that. These were locals so yours may be one of them. Did you contact state of feds?
Hope you and your family have a great Christmas dinner with that bird.
