Title: GMU 564 Late Archery / Gallo Springs hunt
Post by: Griz231 on December 23, 2011, 09:39:04 AM
So far I'm eating tag soup.  Put in the miles this year, had several great hunts, just couldn't connect.  I'm heading to my in-laws on the 30th down in Vancouver and I'm wondering if anybody can point me in a direction for a Saturday (final day) hunt for blackies.  Never hunted that area or even been in the hills down there.  This is a last minute just trying to fill a tag deal.  Thanks for any help.

BTW:
My Gallo Springs hunt right after Thanksgiving was awesome!!  Tons of deer and turkeys.  I past up several spikes and small two pointers.  Had one doe string jump me and saw a few very nice bucks, but no shots.  My buddy killed his first ever deer with archery, actually his first deer ever.  Got to chase the turkeys around which is a kick in the pants.  I'll be going back next year for sure.

Might try Bell Mountain east of the town of Battleground. Or the Yacolt Mountain area just southeast of Yacolt, WA. Been a while since I've been to both but I remember some DNR land and some private timberland holdings in both areas. Get a look at some maps and/or call the Vancouver office of the Game Dept. Good luck.
