Cool, I got a Knight Bighorn for Xmas, looking forward to learning how to use it. Maybe hunting with it next year.

Maybe?
My centerfire rifle hasn't been out of the safe since I bought my Bighorn several years ago--you'll end up hooked like the rest of us.

Welcome to the addiction.

You will like it a lot. I have been using one as my number 1 go to gun for about 3 years now. It works great and shoots well. I did swap out the sites as I always do. If you ever need any help just kick me a pm

I gave up rifle hunting in 93 for archery and have been hooked ever since. I doubt the muzzy will make me lose that bug especially since archery has a longer season and generally, better units to hunt. I'm really hoping to get drawn for a multi-season tag so I can use both, haven't had much luck yet with that. :bash:

is the gun legal for hunting in washington straight out of the box or do you have to buy a alternate breach to be legal? just looking into possibly buying one. thanks.

I was told my the sales guy at Cabelas I would have to buy a breech plug kit for the 11 caps and they are pretty cheap. Got home with the box and low behold the breech plug and nipple for 11 cap were in the box. Just had to remove the breech plug and nipple for the 209 and put the other breech plug in and there you go legal in Washington.
-
Yes the cva elkhorn is legal. When bought new they should come with the 2nd breech plug that lets you use the 11 or musket caps to be legal in this state
-
so what loads and breach are you going to start with?

209 breech and primers are not legal to use in washington only 11 and musket caps. I have been told the triple 7 powerder is really good to use. Doesn't foul the barrel as much and very easy to clean. It is sitting as of right now. Fishing is on the agenda for me for a while.

Don't forget to LUBE the threads on the BREECH PLUG and NIPPLE !!!!!!
DO IT EVERYTIME YOU REMOVE AND CLEAN THE GUN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I won't use the over the counter stuff in the muzzy section of the store. I use "never sieze" from the auto parts store. 10 years now and I am still on my original nipple.

what is the twist on the barrel? i went to thier website but they dont say.

Yes there is. You can shoot sabot's in them. I think it is 1/26th twist not sure though.
-
The twist is 1:28" on the elkhorn and a lot of the other newer guns
-
I should have looked at my owners manual.....you right 1/28
-
I pretty sure its 1 in 28

Nice! I just picked myself up an Elkhorn right before xmas as well. I haven't gotten out to shoot it yet, but i'm looking forward to it. This is my first muzzleloader so i'm excited for the new adventure.
