Arima is a 19', but if I make it I will be pulling my trailer with the livingston on top of the truck. A mile isn't bad. I use to run several miles in NC looking for cats in a john boat I rented from health and recreation office on base.it will take ya awhile,and the snake can get ugly..they have showers and stuff if ya wanted to tent camp thats what we do for a week.

I have not done a search about this,but exactly where is this taking place?, what are the accomadations?, campground? Is there bank fishing, or is a boat needed?lyons ferry,eastern wa I have never banked fished there,we run across the snake up the palouse,a boat is best.I think machias did some bank fishing,no cats though...there is a KOA there where we all stay,tent or RV there are showers and reatrooms a small store and resturant...

Never fished up there but have heard its good. I finally figured out the catfish in the Columbia this past year. It took me calling my buddies back in South Carolina and shipping me some home grown bait that was made back there. When I moved out here I didnt think about bringing any with me. Luckily they had a huge batch and shipped me some. Hopefully it will do the trick on this trip as well.
I will also only be able to do a weekend, Friday evening to Sunday evening. That whole work thing. But if there is a potluck, I will be more than happy to smoke some pig and bring some of my Southern pulled pork for everyone to eat on if it's wanted.

I ran a 21' boat up the river last year. 150 yamaha with a prop on it. run it wide open, trimmed all the way up and you can scoot thru a foot and a half of water with no problem. it is a bit concerning the first time you do it. the bottom is nothing but mud, no rocks to worry about. I did drag once while going too slow and churned up some nice chocolate milk behind me. if your boat is set up right, you only need as much water as the distance from the skeg to the cavitation plate on the motor.

KOA is on the snake river, run up river to the Palouse river. Beautiful country up there, not too many beautiful people once we arrive :chuckle: If you are going to bring your dog, they have an off leash area. it sucks as it is about 70' long and 15' wide with a row of huge poplars planted down the middle.

I'll be be bringing my sled, anyone else going to be bringing kids? Mine will be there 5,8,10!!my girls will be there ages 10 and 14. Rasbo, is Robert bringin his youngen over, we had a talk last year about not fishing every day and having someone in camp in charge of the kids. lets the grownups get up early or stay out late without the kids having to do it as well.

Yes you can bank fish. Rec area on the North side of the river should be open. No campground but day use will be open.

84 boat slips (I think covered) there was plenty of open dock available last year and costs less.

Count me in this year, as I would love to meet a bunch of you from this forum. I've got a boat; 16.5' welded aluminum w/25hp Johnson. Typically, they still have uncovered parking. Just a suggestion:There are no requirements,deadlines or fees. Just make a reservation at Lyons ferry low for the 15,16 and 17th of June. Bring a boat if ya got one. As it gets closer we will know how many boats are coming and how many non boaters we will be able to take out.
Maybe at some point have a locked thread with instructions for those attending so we don't miss something essential in this long thread. Deadlines, requirements, fees, so on.

Those little bullheads make great bait for the cats! Just cut some meat off in a strip and apply to circle hook. Caught many cats using the little guys as bait.

Sounds good to us. We were thinking of bringing some pvc pipe with reflective tape to try and mark the shallow channel it;s pretty narrow. There is a sand beach up there that we have seen the guides fish from that would be a good bonfire or spot to fish from the bank. We have never fished up there at night but some pontoon boats from the marina with lanterns go up but don;t know how good they do.I say we take the beach :chuckle:

I will take a nice fresh lingcod fish taco over any other fish that swims. the little catfish were really good but the ones with the red meat in them were very fishy tasting. I love most white meat fish but I wont keep any of the big catfish for eating. Well maybe one cuz I wanna win the derby ;)

Kenz, that's what live wells are for, a cooler with river water in it should work fine. We caught some of the little yellow bullheads on Monday morning last year and they were still alive in my cooler (on ice) when I got home that evening. Tough buggers!Im thinking the same thing loki,except I will be there a week...so doubt many will be going that long

I've wanted to go to this thing since the year it started. My dad and I went the year before it started and had a blast. There is actually a good chance this year that I will be down there and if I am my dad and I will show up with our 17' Alumaweld Talon.I sure hope you two make it,would love to meet you both.I have the same boat

How does the potluck work? We have our reservations and we have a boat but more of a ski type boat.if you can fish out of it and anchor it should work....pot luck is what ever you bring..always works out..

I'd still camp at Lyon's Ferry. If you don't have a boat, you can drive across the bridge to the state park on the other side of the river. Nice place w/breakwater for taking the kids swimming. Plus, you can hike out onto the breakwater and fish for cats on the other side of the dike. Alternatively, you could hike up the Palouse and catfish from the bank.

The State hasn't run the park a Lyon's Ferry for a while. Columbia County ran it for a while and called it quits. So now the Corps only has the day use area open, (the campground and boat launch on the NORTH side are closed).

The finance and I and 3 kids ages 12,14 and 15 will be turning 16 on the trip....we have a boat but I have been told we would not be able to make it to some areas due to type of boat.....there are plenty of places to catch fish,real early in the am is better and evenings...

Can anyone tell me if I should bring my rubber raft or should I leave it at home. I dont want to haul my boat all the way there and havent been there so not sure if the water is to swift or what. No motor and just oars. I was thinking about taking my 10yr old out on it but not sure if its safe. Is there eddys or coves I can get into?the park across the river is a cool place for that...its almost like a lake in there

Kind of chilly over here right now. It's 55 and blowing about 20 mph. Snake River water temp at Little Goose is 54-55 deg. The forecast is for it to warm up near 70 for next weekend.yes sir see ya then :hello:

Headed down Sat for the potluck with my younger son. Had a good time seeing everyone and meeting some new people. When we got home my son spent about 10 minutes explaining to the wife all the goings on. He's still laughing because of Grundy's comments about Sasquatch! Thanks Gundy like I didn't need any help! Look forward to next year, hopefully I can get some time to do some fishing too. Many many thanks to Elite1 and Rasbo for putting this together.

It was a pretty slow start for my group. Buddy Scotty and I caught 4 cats Friday night at mouth of Tucannon, then nothing on Saturday. At least we didn't get the *censored* hat. Another friend came over late Friday night and fished with us Saturday morning. It was good to see him and he plans on being in elk camp again this year. But we couldn't get him a fish before he left Saturday afternoon. He also missed all the great food at the get together. My son Chris came over from Pullman (WSU) Saturday night and fished with us on Palouse Sunday morning. We caught three fish, and of course Chris caught the biggest yet (approx 10lbs). Chris had to head back to Pullman to chase girls Sunday afternoon. So, Scotty and I went out again that afternoon and caught 10 fish, with 5 fish between 7lbs and 11lbs (why couldn't we have done this Friday night for the tournament, I don't know!). Overall, great people, great time, and can't wait to go back next year. Actually, might go back in two or three weeks.

What kind of prizes were given this year? Last year i got a bitchin quilt and little loki got a rod and reel.
The prizes were amazing...there were 50 and 25 dollar gift cards, rod and reel,(I want to say more than one) a fish depth finder, a beautful quilt, pillow cases, a sorta mechanical compass (forgot the name...even though we won it...it is cool though), ...anyways....they were nice !

There were a couple of guys fishing at the mouth of the Tucannon from shore, one caught a fish but it looked like a trout. We fished there for a bit, but not even a nibble...and lots of snags.
