Title: Headed East for Divers
Post by: cryfowl on December 29, 2011, 11:34:38 AM
Ok, so every year I head over to the east side once or twice to try and sctratch a Drake Rehead off my bucketlist, but I have never shot one.  Hunted the Wanapum last year and saw a bunch of redheads, but everytime we thought we had a good spot to set up, it turned out to be an off limits area.  I need some help.  My wife and I are planning on hunting Priest Rapids tomorrow, but if anyone has a better spot that they would be willing to share, then I would certainly appreciate a point in the right direction.  Send me a PM.  I can assure you I would never hunt anyones spot without permission.  Will be hunting Fri and Sat.

Priest rapids was pretty slow about 2 weeks ago, we did shoot our limits of scaup one day (lessers) but the rest of our ducks were bufflehead and goldeneye. Did see a few redheads flying with the scaup but not many at all

Dang that sounds like a good day! I have never seen a goldeneye or a redhead.  I have only harvested two Scaup in two years of waterfowling.

haha well you arent missing much with the goldeneye, the drakes look cool but they are tougher than hell, probably the toughest duck to kill that I've ever hunted anyway. They are a bitch to clean (cant get the skin off the breasts) and they taste terrible.  :chuckle:

Oh I really like certain types of ducks. Teal, Redheads, Canvasback, wigeon, pintail, wood ducks, and gadwall are some of my favorites. Mallards, bootlips, ringnecks, ect are ok but I can't say that I really like them very much. Mergs, goldeneye, bufflehead are nasty.
