Title: isnt it illegal to sell game meat??
Post by: huntergreg on December 29, 2011, 03:01:02 PM: Saw this add and thought he was trying to get rid of it for free or something. Gave him a call and he wants 3-4 $ a pound. I thought it was illegal to sell it if you are not a licensed dealer of game meat??? :dunno:

I called and talked to him. He just told me he wanted 3-4 $ a pound for it. Didn't buy any though.

to legally possess game meat you have to have documentation from the hunter including tag info is my understanding but that is just what my hunter ed instructor told us never saw that in regs. maybe its an RCW or WAC but I couldn't say.

Farm elk can be sold but doubt thats the case here.

Copied and Pasted from CTUIR: Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation

Trafficking in Wildlife
No Tribal Member or other person subject to Tribal jurisdiction shall:
Sell or have in his possession with the intent to sell; Expose or offer for sale; Use as the basis for an exchange of money; or
Ship for commercial purposes any wildlife, including parts, raw or processed.
However, this provision does not apply to: Lawful off-reservation commercial fishing activities,
The possession or sale of hides of big game or furbearers lawfully taken; or The sale or bartering of subsistence
wildlife by a Tribal Member to a member of a federally recognized tribe.
A Tribal Member may exchange wildlife lawfully taken for household goods or domestic supplies.
Violation of this section is a crime.

Thats the WAC. The RCW is 77.15.260 Unlawful Trafficking in Wildlife.

I did write to the local WDFW office when this first came up and provided a link to the listing.

This was a few weeks back before the site had all those problems. I saved one pic from the Craigs listing... Don't know what happened to that mess...
