Title: Views from the summit
Post by: danderson on December 29, 2011, 06:33:28 PM: This is what the view looks like from the summit of mount Rainier, I know its got nothing to do with hunting but it like a crazy curse for me, seems like whenever I go out hunting or hiking, I am driven to climb the highest peak, I know im not the only one so lets see your view from the top.

had no visable clues as to my wherabouts, I knew though if I go down this little draw right in front of me I'll get out of the fog - so I gently idle forward, forward, forward.......forward..........forward..................

seems like I've went WAY too far forward and should have hit the draw by now

then I look down and see my boot prints where I climbed on the snowmobile - I hadn't moved a single inch :chuckle:

learned a new respect for glaciers and vertigo and whiteout and sensory deprevation!

One of the best books I've read was "A Life on the Edge" by his brother Jim Whittaker. Both of those guys have amazing life stories.

Post by: danderson on January 04, 2012, 09:23:47 PM: yup, spent 7 days on the mountain on a RMI seminar, with lou, and the guides, good times. I wanted to show in this picture how steep it actually is at the top, those peaks down below are above 5000 feet. One july 4th up around 14,000 feet there were mountain goats up at that elevation , crazy.

Post by: Special T on January 04, 2012, 09:33:38 PM: I climbed Rainer Many snows ago about...97 ish... We climbed the Inner glacier steamboat prow Emmons glacier summit route. up and down in 2 days. We had a Whittaker train us on Crevasse rescue and travel but just went up with 6 of us relatively experienced climbers. Been looking for my summit pics but cannot find them right now... From 11k Ft you can see the lights of E-berg to Yakima. A top steam boat prow you could see lights from tacoma to Everett+++ It was very cool and an awesome summit day.

Did you know that in the 60-70 Boy scout high adventure summit-ed Rainer several times? the man in charge of high adventure would take scouts from one side of the crater, through steam vents to the other side underground! :yike:

ill prob do hood or rainier this year. Prob one of the funnest challenges is conquering a mountain.

Post by: danderson on January 04, 2012, 09:49:12 PM: Its been a few years since I climbed the mountain also, about 25, decided to hang it up after we got caught up in a avalanche, made the summit 3 different times, spent a few hours in a steam vent on top one time to get away from the winds, the altatude was the only thing I could never get use to, lack of oxygen and me never mixed :P
