Title: PathfinderJR's Euro Mount done and on the wall
Post by: Pathfinder101 on December 29, 2011, 06:53:48 PM
Well, I had a little time over the holidays, so PathfinderJR and I updated the trophy room.  Got his head up from his late buck hunt this year, and my mulie.  We took down all of the other euros that we have and remounted them on new plaques.  Unfortunately, my good camera is at work, so these crappy pics are the only ones we have right now.  I'll try to remember to bring home the good camera tomorrow and update.
JR's buck won't stay a euro mount for long, but until the cape is done we decided to do one to display the head.

Thanks all.  We made our pedestals out in the shop.  Basically cut the backboard and routered it, cut a wedge and cut an oval to put the skull on.  A little tricky getting all the piecies put together, but I like the look of the angled skull.  Can't fit them all in one picture on this crappy camera.  Here's the other side of the wall.

I don't have any photos of the building process, but I'll describe it best I can;
Cut the three pieces of wood for the plaque, a backboard, an oval for the skull to set on, and the wedge.
Drill 2 holes through the back of the backboard and secure the wedge to the backboard with screws.
Now drill two holes through the back of the skull.  One right at the base of the spine, one through the roof of the mouth.  Be careful, the bones in the roof of the mouth are thin.
Now drill 4 holes in the oval board.
Take a long wood screw and secure the skull to the oval with the hole you drilled at the base of the spine.  Screw it so that the skull can still rotate on the oval.
Now take the oval and secure it to the wedge with the two middle screw holes.
Rotate the skull so that it sits correctly on the oval and put the last screw in.  A long wood screw that goes through the oval, into the roof of the mouth (but NOT so long that it comes through the top of the nose).

I know that description may not make complete sense, but it's the best I can do right now.  Like I said, I don't have pics of the building process... :sry:

Here are a couple of more pics..Taken with a better camera....

Thanks, we're looking forward to doing it.  I just don't have the time right now to go through the whole process of doing the cape, it's in the freezer.  This summer we should have the time...
