I have my landowner tag and Im sitting here watching two does. Should I shoot or wait? I have until march 31st... need advice :dunno:
-
Shoot the doe then go do some bird hunting.
-
I've never killed a doe. Do you need to eat? or hunting for fun?
-
How bad do you want the meat have you seen a lot of bucks?
-
I hunt for meat, Id shoot a doe no problem, but you also have LOTS of time to find something if you want a buck.

I say go with your gut. If your not that excited about it then definately wait. BUT if you are and want some venison steaks then let her fly! Sometimes though if you are managing a heard, its better to take out the old doe so the bucks will mate with the younger more fertile does. Some old does go sterile and block the others from mating. Just a thought.

For fun I guess. There's one spike and one decent buck but on the property last night there were 25+ does... I have two tags and didn't get a deer during general....Uggg..
-
It will not be long and they will all look like does.......
-
If that's the case kill a doe! They eat good!
-
Another vote for the doe
-
Best meat in the world! And population reduction is usually most effective with doe harvest! Good luck!
-
Did ya git er?

:chuckle: now that's ruff hunting! You should wait till tomorrow and then post "thanks guys I'm going to wait for a timeout or the two minute warning then it's show time" :chuckle:

When is the last time you shot your gun? Now aim alot more back to the right 5'. :bash:
-
Well if your horn hunten then you mine as well shoot a doe since the bucks will be dropping them soon.
-
This time of year? I'd take the doe in a heartbeat. They still carry some fat on them and are in much better shape eating wise.
And if you're horn hunting, you may be disappointed anyway, even if he's still packing. I was on a late December hunt with a couple buddies in Alaska on one 's seine boat. We were finishing up breakfast and coffee when a buck walked out on the beach next to where we were anchored. The skipper grabbed his rifle (legal to shoot from a non moving boat in Kodiak and Prince William Sound) shot it in the neck and when the bullet hit, both antlers popped off his head and flew in different direction about 8 or 10 feet.
Another friend had shot a real nice 20" wide forky and we stopped at another friend's cabin to visit for the evening. He grabbed it by the antlers to show it off as he stood on the edge of the boat . Both antlers popped off in his hands as he was lifting it up and my friend of course lost his balance and fell over the side of the boat. Lucky for him the water was only a couple feet deep there, but he landed on his back so he got drenched.

Shoot two of them!!!!
:yeah:
-
Shoot a doe. I have killed many does and sure do love the meat. Notice my handle (name) ??
-
If he wants a buck he better hurry or he'll have one without the antlers, then might as well shoot two does.
-
I bet he missed the deer and thats why he hasn't posted since than.
-
:yeah: :bash:

I thought landowner tags still had to.use a valid WA deer tag? Maybe something changed? When I was checking into the program each deer harvested on a landowner permit had to be tagged with a valid tag.

That's what I understood as well..... When my friend had some I had to buy another deer tag to make it legal..... This was quite a few years ago though... :dunno:
-
with the weather we are having they may shed and regrow by march. my hanging *censored*willow tree is already growing fuzzys. things are strange this year. :sry: :dunno: :dunno: good luck i think fill freezer when you are ready 2.
-
The longer he waits the bigger the veal gets, 2 for 1 hunting. :yike:
-
I'm under the understanding that the reason for the landowner tag in the first place is because of depredation and a need to reduce the herd in that given area. Shooting a doe would seem to be the proper use fo this tag.
